MARILYN POV

The house was silent after the front door slammed shut.

Silent… except for the pounding of my heart.

I stayed on the floor, back against my bedroom door, knees pulled to my chest, trying to breathe around the frantic rhythm inside me.

Liam had come for me because of the bond. Because my wolf had awakened.

My wolf pressed anxiously inside me, pacing.

“He’s hurting. Go to him.”

“I can’t,” I whispered. “I can’t face him like that.”

She whined, her presence trembling.

“He’s ours.”

“Not yet,” I said shakily. “We’re not ready.”

But even as I said it, the pain in my chest sharpened again,his pain, bleeding into me through the bond.

I crawled toward the window and pushed it open just enough to hear the voices outside.

The night air was cold, but it felt like fire in my lungs.

Down below, Liam’s voice pierced through the darkness.
