HAZEL POV

When I finally blinked my eyes open, I looked at my phone. It was 1:30 p.m. Shit, I’ve got an afternoon class.

I looked at my phone again, and I saw ten missed calls from Killian, but someone had picked up one of his calls.

“What the hell?” I muttered, sliding off the bed.

I looked across the room. Winter’s bed was completely empty, but Mila was there.

“Mila,” I said, my voice cracking slightly from sleep. I held up my phone. “Did you touch my phone while I was sleeping?”

She slowly

HAZEL POV“Just go in. You are no longer a child,” I mentally chanted to myself as I stood steps away from the dorm. Holiday break was over. Now I’m a sophomore, back at Legacy Thorne.“Hazel!” someone shouted from behind before a pair of warm hands came around me.“You returned. I’m so happy you changed your mind.”I laughed. “How can I leave you alone, my wild girl?” I turned to a crying Winter. “Come on, let’s go inside. It’s cold.”“Okay, tell me everything that happened. Why did you change your mind? What did your parents say about everything?” she rushed out the second we stepped inside.“Breathe, Win.” I sighed and dropped onto my bed. “The transfer was rejected.”“Oh my gosh. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I should get the chancellor a fruit basket for rejecting it.” She winced as I glared at her, shaking my head.I told her everything that happened with my parents, minus the Killian-showing-up part.“What did your brother say when he got back?” she asked.“He was the on

HAZEL POVI stood there dumbfounded and watched Killian leave. I turned on my heels and went back inside.“What did you two discuss?” Mum asked once the door locked behind me.“Nothing much. He was just trying to convince me to return to school once the break is over.” I avoided their eyes as I spoke.“I don’t know, Hazel. I don’t trust that boy one bit.” That makes two of us, Dad. “Are you sure he’s not the one giving you shit in school? Because, Hazel, if the one that did all this was expelled, why do you still want to transfer?”Shit, I did not think that through.“He was truly expelled, but I just have some bad memories.” Mum pulled me into a hug.“We will support you, whatever you want, darling. I’m sorry your dad and I weren’t there to protect you.” She sniffed.“Nothing happened between you and that Killian boy, right?” I was shocked by the sudden question Dad asked.“No.” Jesus.“Good. If you decide to go back, nothing should ever happen between you two, ever. That boy embodie

HAZEL POV“I missed you, Hazel.” A dangerous smirk pulled on his lips.“Hazel, who is that?” My mum's voice boomed from behind me, her eyes landing on Killian. My mum stepped in front of me, pushing me behind her.“You. How dare you show your face to my daughter?” She slapped Killian hard across the face, and he didn’t even flinch.“Helen, what is that?” Jesus, great, Dad is here too.“Richard, look what we have here.” Mum made way for my dad to pass through.“Hello, Mr. Richard,” Killian said, but my dad’s fist connected with his jaw, and that got Killian stumbling back.“Dad?” I shouted. “Stop it.” One thing about my dad is if he gets angry and loses control, he really becomes a beast. He kept on hitting Killian. Killian didn’t even fight back; he just took it.“Richard, stop. You might kill the boy.” My mum held his hands, and he stepped back, his chest heaving.“I don’t know why you’re here, but you will leave and never return. But if I catch you anywhere near my daughter, I will

HAZEL POV“Oh, come on, you know how he is. He will call you back.” I slipped on my shoe, nodding, “Hmm, hmm,” to whatever Winter was saying on the phone.“But he did not call me back last night.”I picked up my bag, kissed my mum goodbye, and bolted out of the door.“He will call you back. Look, Win, I’m off to my job hunting. We will talk later, okay?”“Wait, don’t hang up,” she shouted. “Have you found the transfer papers yet?”“Nope, must have replaced them. I will just draft out another one. Bye, Win, love you, and Conner will definitely call you back.”I hung up, booked a cab, and went on for the day.“I’m sorry, but we aren’t hiring,” the old woman said, going back to her work.“Bu… but there’s a sign out front that says you’re in need of a sales rep. Please, I’m begging you. This is like my seventh place applying for a job today.” I pleaded with her.“Look, kid, I can’t help you. I’m busy. You may leave,” she said with a cold finality.Outside, I looked at my resume. I was twe

HAZEL POVMy hands shook as I stared at the message. No doubt it was from Killian. I wanted to reply back but decided against it. I’m leaving anyway, so it’s of no use. I blocked the number and shoved my phone back into my pocket.“I’m so fucking tired.” Mila heaved as she sat down. “Is that tears?” Mila tipped my chin up.“No.”“We need to go, it’s midnight already.” Conner said, carrying an already sleeping Winter.“Alright.”I helped Mila up, and we walked out of the bar and called it a night.**********“Call me every day, you hear?” Winter hugged me tight.“You will sniff the life out of me,” I choked out.“Oh, sorry.” She let go, and I breathed out. “I will miss you. Send my regards to your mum, okay? I will come visit.”A tear dropped down my cheeks. “Come here, you two.”I wrapped my best friends in a hug, and we stood at the bus terminal hugging each other.“Alright, my bus is here. I gotta go.” I clapped their backs.“Take care of yourself, alright?” Mila said.I nodded and

HAZEL POVWeeks passed, no word from Killian. I didn’t even see his shadow, but that has seemed to be his way. He disappears after we have a fight and reappears to put me on edge all over again.I’ve been studying for examinations. Students still looked at me wearily. The rumors have died down, but students still whispered.“Last fucking day on this campus before break, you excited?” Winter squealed. “What’s your plan for this holiday?” she asked.“Nothing much. I’m just gonna spend it with my parents, find a part-time job, and busy myself.”“Come with me.” She dragged me to the outer part of the building. Students barely come here.“You’re still going through with the transfer, Haze? Think about this.” Winter has been trying to convince me to change my mind for weeks now, but I just can’t.“We’ve talked about this. I’m not changing my mind.”Winter breathed out. “He has not even bothered you for long now. Maybe he changed his mind. I don’t want you to leave me here all alone, please,
