CHAPTER 10 rewrite

“So… let me get this straight. All of a sudden you want to follow me to a basketball game?” Ash asked, squinting at me like she was checking to visually see what had gone wrong with my head.

“Yup,” I replied, pretending to scroll through my phone.

“All of a sudden it’s not noisy and a waste of time?” She pressed.

“Nope.”

“And I’m supposed to believe this isn’t about Adonis?”

I shot her a glare. She raised both hands in mock surrender.

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you about him,” she sang. “Clay is on the team, remember? He knows a lot about Adonis. He has slept with almost every cheerleader and dumped them by the weekend.”

“Can we stop talking about his sex life?” I groaned. “We’re just friends.”

“Just friends my ass.” She folded her arms. “I see the way he looks at you. And the way you almost melt like butter when he gets close.”

“Ash…”

“Look me in the eyes and tell me you two haven’t kissed.”

“We haven’t kissed.” I lied with all my thirty two teeth.

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 25: Torn

“Caitlin Graham, your presence is needed at the principal's office.”The voice crackled through the intercom, sharp and unavoidable. It sounded like judgment.I felt my heart dropped straight into my stomach. It was the final class of the week, the last period before freedom, before I could escape this building and its suffocating hallways for two whole days. I had been counting the minutes, already planning what I’d do once I got home. A long shower. A quiet evening. Maybe even a movie. But just like that, everything came crashing down. The room went silent for half a second before the whispers started.I felt eyes on me instantly. Some curious. Some judgmental. A few amused. A couple of quiet laughs followed, and my cheeks burned as I slowly gathered my things. My hands felt clumsy, like they had been treated with melted butter and I had to pick up glass balls. So this was it.The rumors had finally reached him.I kept my head down as I walked out of the classroom, pretending not to

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 24: Rumors and whispers.

All of a sudden, it felt like eyes were on me with every single move I made.In the library, people pretended to read while secretly glancing in my direction. In class, whispers followed me from one desk to the next. Even in the cafeteria, where everyone was usually too busy arguing over fries or gossiping about tests, I could feel the stares.Everywhere.It was suffocating. At first, I tried to convince myself I was just being paranoid. That maybe I was imagining the looks, the giggles, the way conversations suddenly went quiet whenever I passed by. But then I heard it.“Did you see the video?”“That’s her.”“Wow, she really pulled Adonis?”My stomach dropped.A video of Adonis and I having a picnic on the field had leaked. Not just to one or two people but to practically the whole school. Someone had filmed us laughing, sitting close, sharing food like we were some sort of couple in a rom-com.And now everyone had opinions. Some people were saying we were officially in a relationship

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 23: Suspicions

Chapter 23“I’m so sorry for how I’ve been lately,” I said, my fingers nervously twisting the hem of my pajama top. “I’m sorry I’ve been spending more time with Adonis and it’s...”“It’s fine,” Ash said, cutting me off before I could finish. She pulled me into a quick, tight hug like none of it even mattered. Her hair smelled like coconut oil and perfume. The same way it always did.But something in my chest still felt heavy.“So,” she continued, pulling away and flopping onto my bed like she owned the place, “what have you and the principal’s son been up to lately? Sneaking into school at night to bump genitals?”I froze. My mouth opened, but no sound came out.“Huh? Wh… what do you mean?” I finally asked.Ash didn’t even look at me. Her attention was fully on her phone, thumbs flying across the screen. A grin spread across her face, followed by a little giggle.“Ash?” I called. She glanced up. “What?”“Nothing,” I said quickly, turning back to my open notebook. But my mind wasn’t on

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 22: Timeouts, texts and threats.

“Andddd timeout!!” Adonis yelled, his voice echoing across the empty court as the ball rolled to a lazy stop near the bleachers.I looked up from where I was sitting on the cold wooden floor, my back pressed against the wall, knees tucked to my chest. He jogged toward me, sweat darkening the collar of his shirt, his curls sticking to his forehead. He was grinning -wide, careless, free. He’d been like this a lot lately.Happier.Ever since he started sneaking off to practice at night, he’d been lighter somehow. Like something heavy had finally loosened its grip on him. Two weeks ago, he’d been tense, snapping at little things, constantly worrying about whether he was good enough, fast enough, strong enough. Now, he laughed more. He smiled without forcing it.And maybe...just maybe it was because this place felt like it belonged to him again.“Good job!” I said, clapping my hands together as I stood up, smiling back at him.He slowed to a stop right in front of me, breathing hard, hand

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 21: Trouble or not

“You're lying to me, and I don't like it. Not one bit,” Ashley said, her eyes narrowing as she watched me get ready for school. She leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, tapping one foot like she was about to explode.“Ash, I have no idea what you're talking about,” I replied, slipping my homework folder into my backpack.“You’ve been running off a lot lately. Sneaking around with that little boyfriend of yours,” she said, the words dripping with annoyance.“Adonis is not my boyfriend,” I said, zipping up my bag while trying to keep my tone neutral.“Oh, I didn’t say his name,” she muttered, immediately looking at her nails, as though the conversation had never happened. I rolled my eyes.“He’s going to get you in trouble, Caitlin. Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” she added after a pause, her voice softening just a little but the warning was still there.“The only trouble I see at the moment would be if we don’t get to school in the next ten minutes,” I said, throwing my backpack o

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 20: Escapades

Chapter 20 The night felt so quiet. I couldn't even hear crickets. It was dead silent.I was lying on my bed, phone resting on my chest, staring at the ceiling and counting the faint cracks above me when my screen lit up.Adonis: I’m heading to the gym.I frowned slightly and lifted the phone closer and texted back: At this time? The reply came almost immediately: YeahI sat up.You mean the school gym? There was a pause. Not a long one, but long enough for my mind to start racing ahead of itself.Adonis: Meet me at the end of your street. I'll pick you up.My heart skipped. What was he up to?Ten minutes, he added.I didn’t ask questions after that. Somehow, I already understood this wasn’t a spontaneous idea. There was something settled about the way he spoke, like this decision had been sitting with him for a while.I got dressed quietly, pulling on my hoodie and slipping my feet into my shoes. As I eased my window open and climbed out, the cool night air wrapped around me, sharp
