CHAPTER 5

 Rivalries And Threat

                   Amanda's POV

"Then he showed up to my office as the child's parent, I didn't even know how to react. I was still trying to control myself when Levi came in and he wanted to know if he was my child, I lost it." I said to Adam over the phone.

The event of the day had been a lot and I just needed to vent to him.

"I'm really sorry Amanda, I honestly didn't think you guys would meet so soon and in that situation."

"Same, I honestly didn't see it coming, it feels like the universe is playing pranks on me, I hate how things are going right now." I said in frustration.

"Come on, it's not the end, he agreed to avoid you right, let's just focus on that and for Levi, you can always bring him over here, I can maybe look for a good school for him if you don't want his previous one."

"No, I really can't let you take up that responsibility, you have work, adding Levi to it would be so unfair on me."

"I don't really mind, I can drop him off at school and pick him up Right after and maybe he could come to the office with me on free days."

"How long have you been thinking about this?" I asked laughing. "You seem to have already prepared a routine."

"You know I have to make preparations for anything that comes up, I'm your guardian angel, I have to be on alert." 

"Well, I would have really loved to agree but I want you to be focused, I will find a way to sort it out, I promise."

"Okay,I trust you though. You'll be fine, just take everything one step at a time, they'll eventually fall into place."

"Thank you very much."

It was weekend, so I had a lot of time to rest and think of another plan, this was something I had been looking forward to for the longest time, the career boost, income and everything that came with working with the white Group was my dream, I wasn't going to let anything ruin it.

"Good Morning Amanda" A voice said startling me as I struggled to open the door to my office.

I knew the voice but hearing it this Early wasn't on my list of things to happen today, I had resumed work earlier than my usual time.

"Ryan."

"I'm really sorry for startling you, I just wanted to check if you've resumed."

"Why please?"

"I don't know, maybe I just wanted to say hi."

I walked into my office and banged the door, I honestly wasn't ready to entertain him, he had promise to stay far away from me, so why the fuck was he here this early?

"Amanda, calm down, calm down , you got this. It's too early to start crashing out, don't let the devil win this one." I muttered to myself before reaching for my bottle of water.

I had papers to sign before I resumed duties, I brought out the files, with each scribbling of my signature and a remark here and there, I could feel my anger slowly subsiding.

I heard a knock at my door and assistant Doctor came in.

"Good morning Ma." She greeted as she came inside.

"Good Morning Doctor Bianca, is there anything new on our roster today?"

"No, we just have to do a little check up with our patients for now. We're starting with Blair Sawyer, She's awake and already moving around."

The sound of the name made my heart slam against my chest.

I was going to do my duty regardless of his presence there, I won't fumble this one because of him and our past.

"Where's Levi?" The Doctor asked pulling me out of my thought.

"I left him with his Caretaker at the Doctors quarters." I said as we continued the journey to Blair's room.

The little girl was sitting on her bed when we got there, her head was in a ponytail.

"Hi Miss Blair, how are you doing today?" My assistant asked as he pinched the little girl's cheek, earning a blush from her.

"Hi Doctor Bianca, I'm fine. Who's your friend?" She asked looking at me.

"This is Doctor Amanda, she's the Doctor that operated on you, say hi."

"Hi Doctor, thank you." She said smiling at me.

I returned her smile "Hi Blair, I'll be doing a little check up on you, just tell me where it hurts."

"Will it hurt that much?" She asked holding her duvet tighter.

"No, it won't. Let's do it this way, if it hurts, I'll buy you candies but if it doesn't hurt, you owe me a jar of my favorite candy."

"Okay Doctor, I'll tell my Dad, he has a lot of money"

I smiled at her, as we continued the check up, she kept holding my hair.

"I like your hair, it reminds me of my doll, you're pretty. You look like my mum." She said in one breathe.

I stopped the check up and looked at her, I didn't know when a tear dropped from my eye.

"Doctor Bianca, can you continue? I just remembered I have to handle a case." I said before leaving the room.

I wiped my tears outside and walked to my office, that girl could be Selene's child, if she was, the relationship was so complicated.

I stayed in my office and rested my head for hours, my assistant knew what to do, so I was sure my patients were in safe hands.

I heard my alarm beep, it was time for Lunch, my stomach was already Empty, I stood up to leave to the cafeteria when my office door burst open almost immediately.

Selene!

"Amanda, who said you could touch my Daughter? Who gave you the permission to touch Blair? I want the Doctor changed immediately." She screamed at me.

I was too tired for such drama, seven years after and she was still the bitch I've always known her to be.

"I'm sorry, things don't work like that here."

"She's my child and I'll determine who touches her or not, change her Doctor before I create a scene here."

"Well, I'm sorry, your husband registered as the sole guardian, if you want any changes, you'll have to contact him so we can get his approval." I said trying to control my anger because this wasn't the time and place for it.

She brought out her phone and dialed a number, I heard the phone ring and a voice.

"What's wrong Selene?" Ryan asked from his end.

"I'm at Amanda's office right now, I want her to step down as Blair's Doctor so I can pick someone but she said protocol demands you give your approval, please tell her to change the doctor."

"Why would you do that Selene? Is Amanda there? Doctor Amanda, please I'm sorry for her behavior, I don't consent to that, I'm really sorry."

"What? What are you saying?" She asked looking into her phone.

I have had enough of the drama already and I urgently needed to eat before my body betrays me.

"I have somewhere to be, if you're done, please close my office door behind you." I said walking out of the office.

Her face had turned red with anger and embarrassment.

After my lunch, I walked back to my office, a lot had happened with the steward family and I wasn't in the mood for more drama.

I had decided to step down as Blair's Doctor anyways, she was already feeling better so there was nothing much to do.

I heard a knock on my door before I could sit down, my eyes went to the shoes before the face.

Madam Veronica Steward.

"What exactly is happening here?" I muttered under my breathe as I clenched my fist in anger, the memories of the event of  that night seven years ago flooding back to my memory.

"Amanda, it's nice to see you again." She said sitting down, even though I didn't ask her to.

She hasn't changed, always moving like everyone should bow to her, entitled old lady who thinks she's in control of everything.

"To what do I owe this visit?" I asked sitting down.

"I'm glad you made a name for yourself, the say sunlight always comes before a storm, you need to thank  Ryan, he brought out this part of you."

The bitch!

"I would if he sat through medical school for me, don't you think?"

She sucked her teeth as the smile disappeared from her face.

"I want my Grandson."

I froze.

"Your Grandson?" I asked trying to hide the panic growing in me, my internal organs were going haywire.

"Yes, The little boy you've been hiding from Ryan, I want him, name your price."

"I don't know where you got your information but I owe you and your son nothing. If you're done talking crap, please take yourself out of my office."

She removed her glasses "Amanda, you should know me better than anyone, I don't just bark, I bite and I'll do whatever it takes to get my Grandson. Anything, at all cost to take him where he belongs, get ready, it's going to be a long ride for you." She said and left.

I fell down on the floor clutching my chest, my heart threatening to burst out of it's enclosure, was coming here a mistake?

My Levi!

This wasn't happening.
