Chapter 5

Author: Perfect Timing
Caleb Smith's POV

I couldn't put into words the turmoil I felt on the drive back to the villa. It wasn't until I opened the door that I realized that the place was completely empty.

The wedding decals had been stripped from the walls, leaving the stark white paint looking even more barren.

I called my assistant and ordered him to track Winnie's location. When I learned she was in Ironden, I hurled my phone across the room.

My eyes drifted to the table. A note and a bank card that the bridal stylist had handed me earlier sat there.

The bank card held ten million dollars. It seemed that this was her way of settling the score for the kindness I'd shown her all these years. The note, however, bore only one line in her handwriting: "Caleb, I wish you and Vivian a happy marriage."

I crumpled the note in my hand, then booked a flight to Ironden.

During the entire ten-hour flight, I didn't close my eyes once.

My mind was a tangled mess, scene after scene flashing before me—the genuine

Gianna Jewel's POVWinnie was taking a nap when Caleb's call came through. I saw the caller ID and answered it for her."Winnie, can we talk? I'm standing right outside your aunt's house. I'm not going anywhere until you come out."The moment he hung up, I walked outside and immediately spotted him.I bluntly said, "Winnie is asleep. If you have something to tell her, you can tell me. I'll pass it along."My gaze was so sharp that it visibly made Caleb uneasy. "There's no need. In that case, I'll be leaving now. In a couple of days—"I cut him off before he could finish speaking. "Didn't you just get married two days ago? Shouldn't you be on your honeymoon? Why are you in Ironden chasing after Winnie?"Under the weight of my scrutiny, Caleb finally told me the truth. "Actually… the bride was supposed to be Winnie.""That's preposterous!"My expression hardened, and my voice rose. "You're like an uncle to her! When she returned to the Jewel family, she was only an innocent 16-y

  • Farewell to Love, Farewell to Us   Chapter 7

Caleb Smith's POVWhen Winnie first returned to the Jewel family, she followed Vivi's lead and called me "Mr. Smith".But once she realized her feelings for me, she only called me by my first name.So when she used that title again, she was trying to tell me that our relationship was finally, truly over.I immediately understood. That address had drained the color from my face. I lifted my hand to reach for her again, but in the end, I let it drop.I stood there, watching her disappear into the distance, until a single tear slid down my cheek and hit the floor. That was when Vivi stepped out from the shadows. She clung to my arm, her face wearing a mask of hurt innocence. "Caleb, aren't I the one you love? You pulled all those pranks on Winnie because of me. You planned this entire wedding for me. I'm the only one who's supposed to be your wife."I shoved her away, and my brows furrowed. "I never once told you that I loved you. The only woman who will ever be my wife is Winnie.

  • Farewell to Love, Farewell to Us   Chapter 6

Winnie Jewel's POVFor the 16 years I spent in the orphanage, I never once stepped outside the country. And during the eight years after the Jewels brought me home, watching my parents take Vivian on vacations filled me with quiet envy every single time.So when I arrived in Ironden, I went out for walks every day. Watching strangers move through the city helped me momentarily forget the injustice that had shadowed me for more than two decades. There was a bridal boutique along my usual route. They changed their window display daily, and checking out the new wedding dresses had become the part of my routine I looked forward to the most.A pink gown was displayed that day, the diamonds catching the sunlight and casting a soft glow. The moment I saw it, my mind immediately drifted back to the wedding dress Caleb had designed. In fact, I had heard rumors that he was designing a custom gown for the wedding. For weeks, I had looked forward to the moment I'd finally see it—until the da

Caleb Smith's POVA cold dread gripped me. I pulled out my phone and dialed Winnie's number again and again, but every call went straight to a dead signal.Just as my panic threatened to spiral out of control, Winnie's aunt, Gianna Jewel, called me. "Caleb, Winnie told me that you're getting married today. Congratulations! And thank you for taking such good care of her all these years. She's immigrating to Ironden with me, so you don't have to worry about her anymore."When she hung up, disbelief filled my eyes. For years, Gianna had tried many times to convince Winnie to immigrate to Ironden. But Winnie had always refused for my sake, and I was well aware of that.I couldn't believe that she had actually left this time, especially on our wedding day. When Kevin saw me standing there, pale and stiff, he hurried over and asked me what was wrong.I repeated Gianna's exact words to Kevin. I expected him to panic the same way I had, but he only let out a dismissive laugh."Come on,

  • Farewell to Love, Farewell to Us   Chapter 3

Winnie Jewel's POVEver since I gave Caleb the cold shoulder yesterday, he had been taking me everywhere with him—even to the bachelor party Kevin threw for him.The moment we stepped into the private room, my eyes immediately locked onto Kevin—the same jerk who had been maniacally laughing at me in the hospital room. Yet there he was, greeting me as if nothing had happened."Hey there, future Mrs. Smith!"Before I could respond, the door swung open again. It was Vivian, walking in with a young man.I clearly saw the malice flash in Caleb's eyes the moment they landed on the young man. His grip tightened around the whiskey glass, threatening to shatter it.Caleb couldn't contain himself for even a second. "Vivi, why did you bring a stranger here?"I had no interest in watching their drama unfold, so I excused myself to the restroom. To my surprise, Vivian followed me.The moment she caught up, a smug look spread across her face. "Winnie, guess where Uncle Caleb took me the othe
