Chapter 1

“Happy birthday, Eleanor! Look at what I bought for you!”

Before I finished making my wish, I saw Bella Johnson take out a pink polaroid camera.

When the familiar camera appeared before me, I was certain that I had returned to the past!

In the previous timeline, I accepted the camera happily. I did not expect to hit rock bottom because of it.

Bella looked a little awkward when I did not react.

She sounded as if she was walking on eggshells when she said, “Eleanor, don’t you like it?”

Oliver Taylor quickly took the camera from Bella’s hands.

“You’re Eleanor’s best friend! How’s it possible for her not to like a gift from you?”

After that, he nudged my arm with his shoulder. “Right?”

I looked at the cheating couple before me and sneered. I picked up the camera.

“Bella, of course, I like it. I love whatever you buy for me! It’s just that…”

I paused on purpose. Both of them looked nervous. They were afraid that I would reject the gift.

“Your parents are hospitalized. I know that you’re short on money right now.

“You should return this.”

I pushed the camera in Bella’s direction. She stepped away from it like it was the plague.

“Eleanor, you’ve helped me so much! The least I can do is give you a nice gift. You should take it!”

She then immediately took out a stack of polaroid films and looked at me sheepishly.

“Look, I bought these for you too! You can use it.”

Oliver said in agreement, “Bella chose this for you. It’s even your favorite color, pink!

“Come on, just take it.”

I nodded and picked up the camera. I aimed it at Oliver.

“Alright! Let me take a photo of you to see how it is.”

Oliver was terrified. He immediately covered his face and yelled at me, “Don’t! Eleanor, Bella bought that for you. The first photo you take should be of yourself.”

Bella tugged on my sleeve. She pretended to be offended as she stared at me.

“This is my gift for you. Why are you taking a photo of him?

“The first photo must be a family photo with you and your parents in it. Otherwise, I’ll be offended!”

I snorted and put the camera away after seeing their innocent act.

“Alright, I’ll take a photo and send it to you.”

It had happened exactly that way in my past life. I listened to them and took a photo of my parents after I reached home.

I took many selfies excitedly and sent them to Bella.

A week later, my mother had gotten into a car accident on her way to grocery shopping.

The driver looked exhausted. He was detained by the police.

But my mother had suffered multiple injuries and lost too much blood as she lay on the ground. Before the ambulance could arrive, she had died.

I was still in pain from losing my mother when something happened to my father, too.

Out of nowhere, he suffered a stroke. Fortunately, I discovered it in time and managed to take him to the hospital.

Even though he survived, he had to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Half of his body was paralyzed.

Just when life was throwing me curveballs, I received a phone call from my company on the same night.

I was told that a project agreement had some issues. Not only were we going to face a huge loss, but we also had to bear tens of millions of dollars in compensation.

The news was devastating. My head was spinning. I immediately announced that the company had filed for bankruptcy.

I did not manage to sleep that night.

In just a night, my hair had turned gray.

A lot of wrinkles appeared on my face. It was as if I had aged ten years overnight.

The next few days, my body swelled up like a balloon. Not only that, but a lot of scars appeared on my face and my body.

At the same time, Oliver called me.

I was flustered as I rushed to comfort her. “Are you alright?”However, the hatred in her eyes made me pause. After a long while, she caught her breath and snapped, “Oliver is a piece of trash! Eleanor, where’s the camera I gave you?”I stared at her in surprise. “It’s at home.“Why? What’s wrong?”She took a deep breath. “You should head home and destroy that camera.“Remember, you have to destroy it completely!” After that, she hailed a cab. “I need to head home now.“I’ll call you later.” When I saw her leaving, I felt relaxed. [Alright, you can stop texting me now.]After I texted fake Oliver, I pulled the drawer open. The polaroid camera that Bella gave me was inside. As for the texts that she had seen earlier, I had fabricated them. I knew Bella too well. She was stupid and vain. I looked forward to the moment when she and Oliver would turn on each other. I looked at the camera in my hand and let the memories wash over me. Apparently, if I destroyed thi

The fiasco finally ended when Bella paid the man fifty thousand dollars. The crowd had dispersed. Things had finally calmed down a little when Bella’s mother started to eat bugs. Bella stomped her foot in anger. “Mom, what are you doing?!”Her mother had lost her sanity. She could not even recognize her own daughter. She stared at Bella with blank eyes and drooled. “I’m hungry. I want to eat!” Bella teared up. “Mom!” The funeral ended hastily. After all, Bella was taking care of her mother on her own while she took care of the funeral arrangements. She was overwhelmed. After the funeral ended, Bella finally decided to send her mother to a mental hospital. A day before admitting her, Bella took her mother for a full-body check-up.The doctor told her that everything was normal. There was nothing wrong with her. Despite the results, we could all tell that something was seriously wrong with Bella’s mother. After she sent her mother to the mental hospital, Bella wanted

I did not return to the office. Instead, I went home. I quickly fell asleep on my bed. I was mentally drained. I was afraid of making the wrong move that would send me back to hell. Thankfully, everything was still under my control. I did not expect Oliver to call me and woke me up.“Eleanor, quick, come over!“Bella’s mother has gone insane!” Then, he sent me a video. It was interesting, to say the least. Bella’s mother knelt on the ground and ate a sparrow. The crowd was terrified as they ran away. However, I noticed Bella standing in the corner and gulping excitedly. When I reached there, the police were already at the scene. They quickly brought the situation under their control. Bella’s mother was curled up on the ground. She was not responding to anyone. She did not allow anyone to touch her, not even Bella. A few sparrow feathers were spilling out of her mouth, and her mouth and hands were covered in blood. She murmured incoherently. She should ha

My heart sank at the news. Even though I had anticipated a day like this, it still felt unreal to hear about it.“Alright.” Before I left, I put on a thick layer of foundation and added dark eye shadow to make myself look sick. I wanted to sell the act.I was happy with what I saw in the mirror. It was already late when I reached the hospital. Bella tried to stand up when she saw me. But she huffed and puffed and could not do it. She stopped trying and looked a little embarrassed.“Eleanor, you’re finally here!” She started crying. I felt immensely satisfied as I looked at her huge frame. When I walked over to her, I smelled something bad.The smell came from the woman lying next to her father’s feet. Bella’s mother had gained a lot of weight. Her mouth hung agape. The horrible smell was coming from her mouth. Bella looked a little embarrassed when she saw me trying to cover my nose. “Eleanor, where are your parents?” To continue with the act, I pretended to

She could not control her emotions. Her hair looked a little frazzled. “Bella, what’s wrong with you?“Why is it that I can only take a photo of my family with the camera and nothing else?”Bella seemed a little anxious when she realized that she had lost control of her emotions. She immediately said, “No! No, that’s not what I meant.”I stared intently at her, as if I could read her mind. She licked her lips and apologized to me. “Eleanor, you can, of course, take photos of whatever you want with the camera I gave you!“But I really wanted you to take a photo with your family using that camera.“The films are quite expensive. I know you’re rich and able to afford them, but I hoped you’d use these particular films for you and your parents.”I looked at her. I could see that her forehead was beaded with a thin layer of sweat because she was very nervous. She was trembling uncontrollably, too. Finally, I agreed to her request. It was only then that she seemed to relax.

  • Fatal Polaroid   Chapter 4

I spent the next week at work and refused to meet Oliver. He was happy about it, as he kept meeting up with Bella. Then, Bella posted something on social media. Even though she deleted it immediately, I still managed to see it.[Help! What should I do if my family starts growing fur?]She had even attached a photo of her parents. I felt like it was time to visit the hospital again. It was 10 a.m. when I reached, and the hospital was just starting to get busy.I had informed Bella that I was coming to visit that morning, so she was waiting for me at the entrance. “Hi, Eleanor, showing up empty-handed?” She stared at me in annoyance. I smiled awkwardly. “I did prepare something, but I forgot it in the office. I’ll bring it over on my next visit.” She looked pleased after that. I followed her into the hospital ward. It was only then that I noticed the two people on the hospital beds. They looked very different. Her father was very skinny and resembled a monkey. He
