Dimitri

“I never imagined a day would come when you’d walk into this place again, Alexei,” I said, staring at the traitor who had split our kingdom and fractured our rule.

“What a warm welcome to what used to be home,” he replied, making himself comfortable. The smug bastard knew I wouldn’t dare move against him—not here, not now—and he wore that knowledge like armour.

“To what do I owe this visit?” I asked, folding my arms. “The clan meeting is tomorrow. Couldn’t it wait until then?”

“Not really. It isn’t a discussion that requires the input of the werewolves. Just the two of us, Dimitri,” he said. Whatever this was, it had to be important—for Alexei to swallow his pride and step foot in my domain again.

“Well, I’m all ears,” I said, keeping my voice cool. I wanted this done. If it had been Volodymir himself, he might not have entertained his treacherous nephew. But I was not Volodymir.

“It’s about the Pierce girl,” he said.

I chuckled. Of course it was.

Natalie I wanted to run. God, I wanted to run. But my legs wouldn’t move. Not from injury—just shock. I was frozen, locked in place by the sheer brutality of what I’d just witnessed. This wasn’t fantasy. This wasn’t some stylised vampire movie where danger was choreographed and neatly resolved. This was blood. Real blood. Pain, loyalty, violence—unfiltered and up close. And the wolves? They weren’t just fighting. They were protecting me. Even as they bled for it. Eli staggered back from Willis, mouth stained red, his pale skin torn open and steaming under the moonlight. His breath came in ragged pulls. Around him, the battlefield was slipping away—one of his followers lay unconscious in a crumpled heap. Another crawled backward with a shattered leg. A third limped in circles, his face mangled, one eye gone. Only Eli still stood, barely. Then he looked right at me and hissed the words that chilled my blood: “This isn’t over.” With that, he gave a sharp, guttural command—and

Natalie“Alpha Carson’s message to Lord Orlov,” Willis said coldly. “Tell him to back off, Eli.”I froze.Carson was the one pulling strings tonight? The reason I was still breathing? The Strigoi leader—Eli—bared his teeth in a snarl. “Until the parchment is verified, she’s still ours.”Willis didn’t budge. “She remains untouchable until then. Eli, listen closely—tell your parasite of a lord he’s already crossed pack territory twice. A third time... and we will respond.”Eli growled, low and venomous. The sound scraped at my spine like claws on bone.“Oh, but Lord Balshov strolls in and out,” he spat. “Picks her up like some prized pet. I don’t see you stopping him.”The accusation dripped with venom—he was trying to call out the wolves for playing favorites.Willis didn’t flinch. “Lord Balshov doesn’t feed on tributes, and he isn’t turning her. There’s a contract in place to prevent exactly that. Even he knows when to step back.”Then his voice dropped to a threat wrapped in steel. “

  • Fated In Darkness   105 The Night And All It Brings

NatalieNight had fallen by the time I reached my building, the lamplight casting long, uneasy shadows. I was almost at the entrance when I felt them—figures closing in.They surrounded me like a slow-moving trap, grinning like they already owned the ending.“Peace,” one of them said, and the knot in my stomach instantly tightened. Phi Umbra. My blood ran cold.I knew what that meant—Strigoi loyalists.Their house on campus had always made my skin crawl, even before I knew the truth. I tried to steady my breath, reminding myself of what Adrian told me: most of them were human. But the second I caught the gleam in their eyes under the moonlight, that hope shattered. There was nothing human about those eyes. They were too sharp, too glassy—like the eyes of something pretending to be alive.Suddenly, every cliché from every vampire movie felt less like fiction and more like a confession.Maybe they had created the films. A mocking inside joke to turn the truth into campy horror, so the w

NatalieAfter leaving the library, I wandered into the garden and dropped onto a bench, letting the quiet settle around me. I missed Lisa. After everything that happened at Blackgate Village, I couldn’t shake the question: were we still friends?I’d tried calling her a few times, but each time Grant answered. He wasn’t exactly rude—but the warmth I’d once counted on was gone. Faded. I knew why.I’d brought Adrian to Blackgate. And whatever ancient grudge existed between vampires and werewolves, I was now tangled in it.But I wasn’t picking sides. That wasn’t fair—not when I hadn’t even been given a choice in any of this.Still, I pulled out my phone and dialed the number again, hoping this time, she would answer.“Hey,” came Lisa’s voice, soft and warm, right on the first ring.Relief washed over me. “Thought you weren’t speaking to me,” I said, trying to sound light, but my voice cracked a little. She chuckled. “That’s impossible, Nat.”Her laugh loosened something in my chest.“I’ll

NatalieIt had been two days since I’d heard from Adrian. When he dropped me off on campus Monday morning, he mentioned a short trip. Nothing serious. No details. I didn’t expect a long goodbye, but I hadn’t expected total silence either. For someone who usually craved solitude, I was starting to unravel in the quiet. It wasn’t just loneliness—it was what the silence left room for.My mind kept circling back to everything I’d learned, everything I was still trying to accept. Vampires. Werewolves. Tributes. Bloodlines.Reality had twisted itself into something unrecognizable, and I wasn’t ready for any of it.Now I sat alone in my overpriced campus apartment—once a generous gift from Uncle Mike, now just a velvet-lined cage. A controlled space for a girl whose future had already been bartered away.I was angry. No—furious. My father had known. He hadn’t warned me, hadn’t prepared me. He left it all to Uncle Mike, like that was a kindness. But now it made perfect sense. He wasn’t planni

Adrian“There’s nothing inherently magical about Brian offering himself up,” I said, tone even, deliberate. “You know that.”Dimitri didn’t move, but I felt his posture stiffen—old defensiveness coiling in his muscles.“The purpose of the tribute system has always been clear: end the bloodline through the male heir and revoke the family’s access to Strigoi privileges. That’s it. Nothing more.”I leaned forward slightly.“In Brian’s case—he’s gone. No sons. No heir to continue the line. And frankly? Nicole and Natalie want nothing more to do with your protection. They’re ready to walk.”Dimitri’s lip curled, but I pressed on.“You’ve already lost this one. Cut your losses. Find new tributes. You’re wasting your energy trying to cling to what’s slipping through your claws.”I let the next line hang like a dagger.“The mating season is approaching, and your list is growing thin. Too many women failed transformation this year.”Dimitri’s eyes narrowed—then widened, just a bit.“Maybe it’s
