Was scared

Winter POV:

I paced around the room for the umpteenth time, lost in thought.

The door opened, and Slade stepped inside the room.

My back stiffened as Slade stormed towards me, fury in his eyes, but I barely registered his presence.

Since leaving Alex's room, my mind had been racing with various thoughts. He had met me in the form of Britney and wanted to kill me, but he wasn't Britney. I tried to connect the dots with what my mother had told me about an impersonator, but it wasn't making sense.

I only had one known enemy, Summer, but the last time I had seen her was during the battle with the Hunters. I didn't know her whereabouts, and I doubted she'd go to such lengths to want to kill me.

"Winter..." Slade's calm voice brought me back to the present. He wore a grimace and shook his head. "Why did you leave the pack?"

I didn't respond, knowing it would only drive him to the edge and make him more furious.

"I asked you a question!" He snapped.

"And I chose not to answer," I retorted,
