I listen with rapt attention to the woman who introduced herself as the witch who would help my mate and me in our life mission. She wouldn't say which mission though. She said there was no point in telling me since I'll soon regain my memory."Like I said before, It was just two days ago that I woke your soul and returned your wolf to your body. In another week, your body would have been working perfectly but you woke up too early. Right now some parts of your body are still dead. Your eyes and legs for example. Your brain is where your memories are stored and it's still...""Will I be able to recover fully?" I gently interrupted her. I want to know about that, not about the parts of my body that are dead."The hardest part of this ritual is returning your soul to your body and we've done that successfully. You will be able to recover fully if you listen to me and do everything that I'll be asking you to do. Everything that was supposed to be done automatically while you were dead
"Oh! Goddess! You're sitting!" Lily exclaims. The bathtub or whatever I'm lying in was made in such a way that I can lie flat on my back with my face and ears elevated above the water. Right now I'm not lying flat like I was before. I'm sitting up inside the tub."Look at that! I am indeed sitting!" I also exclaim with excitement. "I'm recovering fast!""Yeah, you are. I think I should give you more shocking and exciting news. Don't you think?""Yes, yes, you should. Any more where that came from?" I ask and we both laugh "Should I still lie flat on my back or continue to sit?" I ask her"Lie flat. Let your body continue to soak in the herbs. For today, at least.""Yes, I agree." I grin as I slowly lay back in the water.I hear as she sigh contentedly then."Everything is almost back on track. Now where did I stop?... Yeah, where you were shocked when you heard what was not even my real age. You know, I'm certainly older than two thousand, nine hundred and eighty years old. I'll have
'Balance between good and evil.' I continue to wonder to myself even after I'm left alone in the room Lily assigned me.Why maintain the balance between good and evil when you have the power to eradicate evil from the world? Why allow evil people to grow and prosper on earth when you can have them destroyed? The ways of the gods are very strange if you ask me.***It took two days of soaking in Lily's special bath for me to be able to stand without aid and I had started to move around by nightfall of that same day. After that, she started the ritual for my eyes. This was painful as hell but I bear it. According to Lily, I have parents and a mate who I was about to get married to. I have to get well quickly so I can return home to them.I regained my eyesight and memory on the same day. It was the morning of the day I was originally scheduled to wake up. It happened unexpectedly, one after the other. Instead of darkness, I opened my eyes to see a bright blue sky filled with birds and
I hear a knock on the door. Instead of answering and telling the person to come in, I turn my back on it. Who else would be knocking if not Lily? This is her house, she sure doesn't need my permission to enter any room in her house.I heard the door creak open after a while that she had been knocking."Sif?" She calls softly."Yeah..." I answer without turning to face her. My voice sounds hoarse and I quickly clear it before asking her,"What do you want me to do? Is it time for another ritual? You can go, I'll be with you soon.""It's not time for another ritual. I came to call you for breakfast... Hearing your voice right now– are you still crying?""No, I'm not crying. And I'm not hungry now. I can always eat later."She sighs out loud."Please stop crying." She pleads, ignoring the lie I just told. "It's been two hours! How can you cry for that long!? You're making me feel bad about myself."I immediately turned to face her on hearing what she said. No, that's not right. How can
I freeze with shock. My eyes widen, seriously probing into Lily's own and silently asking if what, or who I just heard spoke wasn't imagined. Am I dreaming? Could all these, including the conversation I just had with Lily, be a dream? She smiles gently as she nods her head, silently assuring me it's not my imagination and I'm not in dreamland. I swallow down the lump that seems to be clogging my throat as I slowly turn around. A sob escapes from my mouth the moment I see her standing with her hands on her hips like she's ready to take on any challenge. She still looks the same, if not younger. Her salt and pepper hair is neatly coiffed as usual with no strand out of place. "Martha! Oh, my god! Is it really you!? You're not dead! It is indeed you!" I exclaim in disbelief as I rush towards her."No, wait!" She hastily says, raising her hand to stop me from coming towards her any further.Wait!? But why? Different assumptions start running through my mind right then as she stops me,W
"Uhh... I– I... I wasn't... I mean..." I stammer on and on in embarrassment as the whole class roars in laughter. "Oh, never mind about the explanation. Take..." He says, stretching the marker in my direction. "Since you already understand what I'm teaching then please solve this and explain how you did it to the class."I sigh. Yeah, it's my fault. I admit that at some point I stopped listening and got lost in my thoughts. I blame myself for making the whole class laugh at me. I look at the problem written on the board and restrict myself from smiling because I know I can solve it. Thanks to Eric for sending me those books to study with while I was at Council Yard.I go to the front, collect the marker, and proceed to solve the problem in no time then I explain how I did it to the class as he told me to do. When I finish, I turn to see him looking at me with surprise. It's obvious he was sure I wouldn't be able to solve it since that was his first time teaching the topic. I guess h
I hate daytime. The rise of the sun which usually brings some level of joy to others has only brought sadness to me. My suffering would usually begin with back-breaking chores as the sun rises and would go on and on while getting physically abused in the process, till late in the evening when most pack members finally retire to bed. What makes it worse is that my body is not strong enough to withstand the magnitude of pain they inflict on me, and I don't heal as fast as a normal werewolf should. I feel the impact of every blow and kick they rained on me more than I would have felt if I had gotten my wolf. I'm not a normal werewolf you see. I'm a very late bloomer. Normally, the shifting age for werewolves is fifteen years. Sixteen for late bloomers. When I didn't shift at even seventeen years, I became the omega freak who is the butt of every joke. The stress reliever for every frustrated and the punching bag for every aggressive pack member, most especially those that called themse
After the Alpha, Luna, and Beta, the Gamma wolves are the next in command in a pack's chain of command. They are the supreme protectors of a pack which puts them among the high-ranking and most respected officials of a pack. No wonder all the shifters inside the dining hall had shock written all over their faces when I didn't rush to do as the Gamma chief had commanded. They thought I'd gone crazy for having the guts to disobey a high-ranking officer of the packI squat in front of Martha's chair instead and look into her eyes that has tears in them. Martha is not a shifter. She's human, yet she treats me better than my own kind. As if she's my mother."I told you I'll make the coffee, Martha. You could have hurt yourself! You didn't even have your walking stick with you, what if you fall and break another bone?""I'm sorry child. I just wanted to help. When I saw you were already behind schedule... I - I was trying to help so you wouldn't get punished, instead, I made it worse... I
