THERON'S POV.
Vuk stirred cursing at me for the umpteenth time that morning. A surge of adrenaline, pumped through my blood vessels. My eyes remained fixed on the nape of her neck, boring deep holes into the delicate skin.
Riona had just given off the indication that she was my mate. I cleared my throat, to suppress the strange emotion that fluttered in my chest. “The wounds should heal in two days max.” A streak of disgust flared in my chest at my casual tone.
She slowly nodded, avoiding my gaze. Vuk scratched and gritted his fangs inside of me. After a beat of hesitation, I caved in and covered the small distance between us.
I crouched down a little, so our heads were at the same level. I scoffed, mad at the tension that tightened my chest. My brows came together in a deep frown. “The next time you try to escape, I will put you in my private cell.” My tone was curt.
Riona flinched. Batting her eyes. She nodded frantically silent most of the time. I snorted. Damnit! Damnit! Why does it have to be her? Why did the moon goddess mate me with a wolf-less weak female?
I bet even my weakest omega would take her out. A knock sounded on the door, and I snapped my head in the direction of the metallic door that guarded her. I wouldn't put it past her to try to escape again.
“Yes!” I replied, my gaze fixed on her.
“Sir, we have a bit of a situation you need to attend to,” Vincent's urgent voice pierced into my ears.
A few beats passed, and I walked towards the door. My jaw clenched, at the sound of the door scraping against the floor. I arched a questioning brow at him.
“You have a meeting with the prisoners from Bloodmoon pack.”
Meeting equals torture. A sly smirk tipped the corner of my lips. I stepped out of the room and clicked the door shut. Vincent led the way to the ‘black room’, a nasty-looking room drowned in the stench of blood, and body fluids from my prisoners.
I wasn't the moon goddess, who forgave easily. Anyone who faltered my rules would pay for it, every dime. Vincent led the way from the infirmary, to the black room.
He gave me a small bow, then pushed the door open, and gestured for me to go in. I stepped in, and gasps of fear filled the room.
I groaned. I'd kept them in my prison far too long, which I considered a luxury. It was time to punish them severely. “Because I am in a good mood, I would spare your lives,” I paused, to relish in the sighs of relief that rented the air.
I raised a finger, “But, you would serve in the borders of the pack. I can't have you living off me, without working for it.” Another round of gasp, this time laced with fear, rented the air. I stomped my feet against the floor, and silence descended the air around me. “Silence! Vincent, take them to the garage, and prepare them for their journey.”
“Yes Sir,” Vincent bowed.
A growl rattled my chest when loud frantic bangs landed on the door. Suddenly, the door flung open. A warrior walked in, grabbing one of my prisoners by his torn shirt.
I seized the victim's features, from his black eyes to his bloodied nose, he must've gotten on the bad side of my men. I folded my hands behind me, waiting for an explanation.
“He tried to escape.” The gamma guard confirmed my suspicion.
That was all I needed to hear. Anger simmered in my veins, pushing me to the extreme. It was not just his action that pricked the nerves in my soul. It was a fucking stab to my ego. “How dare you!” I snarled.
The man shrieked, falling at my feet. “Please, pl—” he didn't have the chance to finish his statement when my claws sliced out and dug into his chest.
He groaned, and fell to my feet, choking and gasping for air, till he caved in. I grounded my teeth, as my gaze shifted to the guard, who immediately looked down.
“I'm sorry Alpha, it won't repeat itself.”
I shrugged casually. “I agree, it won't repeat itself. That's why I would curtail it, before it gets a chance to,” I paused, breathing heavily. “All the guards on shift, yourself inclusive, should report to Williams at the borders, first thing in the morning.”
It was winter, which meant the attacks around Silverfang were more lethal and more precise. Serving there was like putting your life as bait to the merciless rogues.
Shock flickered through his eyes. Still, he bowed. “Yes Sir.”
“Clean this mess up.” I spat. I had other things to attend to. Clearly, I couldn't trust these lousy Gamma's enough with Silverfang.
I walked back to my pack and was about to step into my study, when Vincent cried out, walking towards me in hurried steps. “Alpha Theron!”
I grunted and turned to face him. Vincent's face was drawn in skepticism.
“Did a cat suddenly get your tongue?” I spat.
He clenched and unclenched his hands. “She escaped!”
A knowing smile blossomed on my lips and fizzled out almost immediately. I'd seen it coming.
Vincent sighed. “She's headed South, towards the rogue area.” I could taste the tension in his voice.
Freaking bullshit!
The minute the words fell off Vincent's lips, Vuk perked its head up. Fighting, and scratching to come to the surface.
I gritted my teeth. “How did this happen?”
“The lousy guards got caught up slacking, and she seized the opportunity.”
‘You’re not gonna leave her to walk into danger are you?’ Vuk cursed.
My hands curled into a fist. My eyes narrowed with indignation, “Gather the men,” I paused, “We have a stray to catch.”
I swear by the moon goddess, Riona would pay dearly for this. I seethed.
“Yes Sir. Let me get the car read—” he barely finished his statement, when I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt.
“If she gets to the South before me, I would use your head as a peace offering to the rogues,” I said, and shoved him aside.
Vincent nodded. “We will hit her before she gets there.” His voice was steady, with an irritating amount of apprehension.
Fucking hell! She was way more trouble than I'd envisioned.
RIONA'S POV This was my price to pay for the freedom I sought. With each step I took farther away from the Silverfang pack, the snow grew heavier hitting against my skin. I'd not prepared enough for this journey of escape with the little resource available to me. My feet were frozen from the piles of snow I'd had to drag them through. I didn't need to see them, to know my feet were covered with frostbite. I hugged myself, shielding half my body, which was bare from the cold as much as I could. A cold shiver skittered through my spine, causing my teeth to ground against each other. However, my wolf, Elara nudged Ms on. ‘Just a little while, and we'll be there. Keep going.’ She whined. At first, Elara had been drawn to the charisma that dripped from her fated mate. But when she picked up on whom he truly was, she frowned at his attitude. ‘I could take over, if that would make it easier.’ She offered, clawing and scratching to come to the surface. My hands dug into my skin, forming h
RIONA'S POV Time stopped. And I could've sworn with everything I have, I saw lightning bolts splintered out of Alpha Theron's head. He grinded his teeth, infusing a deep sense of fear to my very core. Still, I managed to keep a straight face, despite the fear that spiralled through me. I couldn't let myself drown in the claws of fear. Especially not in the presence of this man, staring down on me with a cold gaze, and his subordinates, pacing the length of the open space. He tightened his grip around my hand, in a way that made the area with the most impact, flare with pain. I held back a groan that threatened to spill from the corner of my lips. “Please…let go. You're hurting me.” I pleaded. Much to my surprise, my voice came out shaky. One. Two. Three. Three beats passed, and he hesitantly let go. I collapsed to the ground. My veins trickled with equal parts apprehension, and equal parts relief. Alpha Theron, snarled. “Try that nonsense one more time, and I will scribble your n
RIONA'S POV The Cadillac pulled in the garage, and Kanesha did the honours of holding the door, and dragging me out of the car, in the guise of ‘helping me out’ quote on quote. It was a great disservice to Elara, who was still seething with displeasure. Theron rounded the car, and covered the distance between Kanesha and me. His face, still red from the impact of my wolf's claws. I concealed a smirk that threatened to break out of the corner of my lips. “What do I do with her…Sir?” The reluctance in her voice was all the confirmation I needed to know she had a sensual attraction towards Theron. He sneered. “Better hold your horses Neesha. If a hair on her body gets hurt,” his face blanched at the amount of sensual tension that coated the word ‘body’. Something about the way he said it, made my skin tingle with strange excitement. Thankfully, it snapped the instant he spoke again. “You would spend the entire winter at the river.” She hesitated, then gave him a stiff bow. “Like I
RIONA'S POV Fatigue settled in my bones, I was so close to having fits of exhaustion. I winced in pain, and curled my legs close to my chest. The injuries inflicted on my body still ached. “Try not to be a nuisance, and maybe, just maybe I would reconsider my rules,” Her words dripped with sarcasm. She clapped her hands, and the door cracked open with a deafening scraping sound, that made me cause under my breath. A hefty six foot male, dressed in a black jacket, and a matching mask with the image of a skull drawn on it, stomped in. He bowed with a grunt. “Rocky, we have a new guest here. No harm comes to her—” she stopped mid-sentence, then continued in the same breath. “Alpha Theron's rule.” Rocky's eyes widened, and returned to normal. He pulled down his mask, revealing a wrinkled goatee, lining his mouth. “Yes ma!” His shoulders went stiff, I could literally see through the way his muscles bunched at Alpha Theron's name. Kanesha looked down at her wristwatch. “When is the ne
RIONA'S POV It's been days since I was shoved out of natural light in this dark torturing cell. Elara was acting weirdly. She'd snap her head out, and slip back in. It was getting scary. In the dead of the night, I'd allow her to surface a bit, and suppress her at the faintest sound of approaching footsteps. My entire body ached, like hot coal was shoved into my joints. My injuries were slowly healing; I wasn't given the luxury of getting attended to by the pack doctors. Moreso, Kanesha saw to it that my food was poorly made. Each day, I looked forward to clumped spaghetti, or mashed potatoes with fingerlings. I curled to the corner of the room, covered with the blanket that shielded me from the harsh cold. Even through the confines I could feel the weather build up. It got chilly, making me even more sick. Using Elara’s powers to help myself was like shoving her in the face of her enemies. I had to escape, live this pack for good this time. Who knows, the next time I'd appear i
RIONA'S POV Elara snapped her teeth at Kanesha, on the verge of going out of her way to put her in check. I tried to suppress her. I did for a few beats, and she snapped her head up again. This time, her eyes shone red. I could've sworn, I saw Kanesha flinched. But she quickly regained her confidence. “How dare you reject the food I offered huh?” She spat, her words seething with disdain. “I bet you don't know what it cost me to get this to you in the first place!” Her face was bright red with rage. The facial expression on her face didn't match her cold, low voice. She should be screaming at the top of her voice. My wolf became more conscious, her wolf abilities on alert to pick out the faintest form of anger. My lips thinned with defiance. “Then eat it!” I tipped the food towards her, the ceramic bowl jiggled and tilted to the side, flipping half its contract on her leather boot. Kanesha's nose flared. I looked up, narrowing my eyes to take in the intensity of the light from he
THERON'S POV Earlier that day… My nose flared at the mere sight of the man in front of me. His face, battered with red welts, and scars from my men. I leaned backwards into my chair, scrutinizing him from head to toe. Disgusted by his presence, my blood simmered with an urgent need to discard him. I pushed myself forward on my seat. “I'm gonna ask this one more time,” I paused. The entire room was dense with trepidation. His entire body shuddered with panic. Scratch my thoughts about being hasty in my judgement, I was gonna enjoy this. Nobody dared breach the borders of my pack. “Who sent you to spy against my pack?” His lips fell apart, like he was about to speak, but he couldn't make out one coherent word. My nose flared, a low growl rattled my chest. I stomped my hand against the armrest of the chair, then advanced towards him. He fell back, using his hands to shield himself. I grimaced, like that would save him from my wrath to start with. “I-I-I…” he stuttered, his voice t
RIONA'S POV My eyes fluttered open, and a flood of warm golden light flooded into my eyes. I clamped them back shut. Two beats passed, and I forced my eyes open. My head throbbed with a terrible headache, my gaze hovered around the strange white ceiling. I winced in pain, my gaze taking in everything around me. Elara was weirdly alert for the faintest sight of Kanesha. The brawl between us was a one off for what she had in mind for her. She wasn't gonna let Kanesha off her hook that easily. A gasp of surprise escaped the corner of my lips, when my gaze landed on a familiar bulky figure, with his back facing me. I struggled to sit up, resting my back against the bed frame. Theron seemed to pick on my consciousness. He turned to face me, the scowl on his face suited him in a way that made my toes curl with a dark sensation. “Hey!” His deep voice flitted over my skin, a wave of goosebumps prickled in its wake. Theron covered the distance between us, rounded my bed, and stood beside
THERON'S POV My hands tingled with a dire need to rest around her waist, and pull her close. Riona's cheeks flamed under my intense watch. She looked down at her feet. “You're back,” Her words were throaty. I nodded. “Yeah, it's good to see you,” There was nothing in me that indicated peace. My thoughts were muddled. I covered the distance between us, till we were mere inches apart. Riona lifted her face, and our eyes locked. Damn! I'd always known she had the most beautiful set of eyes. Albeit, there were no right words to describe staring at it this close. Her eyes pierced right into the most staunch part of my heart. I scratched my hands through my hair. For the umpteenth time since I met Riona, I was at loss for words. An action that was fast becoming a norm, much to my chagrin. “How'd your training go with Vincent?” Her lips spread in a smile. Still, I could tell it wasn't genuine. “Fine. It went absolutely well,” Her throat bobbed with a hard swallow. “But, Elara and I c
THERON'S POV Vuk gritted through poisonous clenched fangs. His veins sang with exhilaration. He wanted— craved more pounds of pink flesh. I pushed myself from his bloodied body, and hovered around him like a dark cloud, vibrating with lightning. I bit down on my lower lips. “The next time you play stupid games with me,” I paused, and a scoff escaped the corner of my lips. “I'll rip your bones out of your flesh, before I finish you off,” He spat out the blood in his mouth. Carter scrambled around, and two of the other Alphas watching with keen interest, gingerly walked towards him to help him up. All the while, their eyes were fixed on me. Carter's eyes glowed with a mischievous glint. “You've only won this round Alpha Theron Moretti,” His voice was etched with indignation. I shrugged. I wanted to give him a retort. But shoved the idea aside. I wasn't accessible to just anyone around the province. Not even to them. “I’m out of this damn place,” I said, and sauntered out. I felt
THERON'S POV I'd had enough of going through pack's politics. I spent the entire morning in my private lounge sprinting and sparring with the other young Alpha's, while the older ones watched. This was one of the times Alphas around the packs were to assemble and decide the fate of rogues who constantly attacked the packs. My pack was on the brink of being breached. That wasn't their business. I could clean up my own mess before the stench got out. After trashing about seven Alphas in thirty minutes, I pulled my shirt from the hanger, and wiped my sweaty body clean. Asides the exhilaration, I wanted to kill the overwhelming desires that pumped the muscles around my groin and rested around my cock. Each night, her thoughts consumed me and I ended up with a throbbing arousal. I'd seen women, and heiresses, and mafia princesses— None of these women got into my head like Riona. A wave of anger flushed through my blood. Still, I could feel the streak of intense want sprouting in my hea
RIONA'S POV “Stretch your arms, and feel the energy from all parts of your body,” Gamma Vincent instructed. His tawny eyes casted a judging look at me. Albeit, he wasn't as open about the hatred at Kanesha. Still, I could see the minute disapproval in his eyes. Elara whined. She wasn't having any of this. Afterall, she'd been doing good all these years by sprinting and training in solitude. That was all she'd been used to, all her life. I did as Gamma Vincent instructed. Alpha Theron had travelled to the West province for pack politics and had given Gamma Vincent express permission to make sure I was in great hands at all times. Training. Making sure my wounds heal properly. Heck! Monitoring my movements. I couldn't even take prolonged evening strolls anymore. In his words, “That's the only way to keep her wandering feet at a place,” His voice had come out calm, but his facial expression was stoic, and devoid of the least emotions. “Welldone, Well-done Riona!” Gamma Vincent said
RIONA'S POV I watched Rylan and his grandmother speaking. Equal parts confused, and equal parts curious. Odessa whined inside of me. She perked her head to take in everything in front of her, but the heat from his mere presence confused her. “Camilla, there's never a good time for anything,” he muttered. Whatever the problem was, it was obvious it drained a part of him, he didn't want to talk about. A mixture of panic, and pain lined his facial features. His jaw clenched harder with each word he spoke. His gray eyes became tawny, coloured with wariness. Camilla reached for his hands, and squeezed it softly. “Son, we can't have you plunging into something that delicate,” frustration carved wrinkles on her face, “Remember you still need to win the heart of your subordinates, to become the official heir to Oakville throne.” His lips parted like he was about to counter her, when she added, beating him to it. “I don't think the pack members would want an injured Alpha.” He grunted, r
Tree branches slapped and scratched me, searing my skin as I ran through the thick woods. Heavy stomps of feet raced closer to me, covering the distance between me and my predators, and reached my ears. My vision became blurry, and it took every bit of willpower in me to keep my heavy legs running through the woods filled with thorns. My lips fell slightly apart as I struggled to drag in oxygen into my lungs. “Riona, you can't run away from us…” one man growled behind me before he let out a sinister laugh. My wolf, Elara, twirled inside of me, fighting and scratching to come to the surface. Unlike me, she was raw, brutal, and wouldn't hesitate before her claws sliced out and dug out their eyes.Elara was nothing like me. She was always ready for a faceoff with anyone she perceived as an enemy. But letting her have her way would mean shoving her as bait to her enemies. They would easily outnumber her, and the last thing I wanted was a weakened wolf. With each step I took, my legs fel
RIONA'S POV My day started badly. My feet tingled with a foreign stiffness I wasn't used to. I made to turn but my insides twisted with a torturing pain. I fell with my back against the bed. I let out a groan, when Alpha Theron's scent floated into my nose. Elara reared her head in sheer pleasure. His presence soothed a part of her, a part of us we didn't know needed to be calmed. What followed next was the stomping of his feet against the marble tiles as he approached my bed. His gaze net mine, and even with the signature permanent scowl etched on his face, his eyes glimmered with a soft smile.I made to push myself up, Alpha Theron covered the small distance between us, and wrapped his arms around me, serving as an edge. The warmth pressed harder into my bones. “Hey,” A faint bitter taste lingered in my mouth. I tipped my head sideways to take in his facial expression. The skin beneath his eyes was smudged from exhaustion. My eyes hovered around the room, and the pieces of puzz
ALPHA THERON'S POV Streaks of anger resurfaced at the edge of my consciousness. I got her to the safety of the pack house. The instant I set her in bed, I checked her thoroughly. My heart slammed against my ribcage with a bruising force. Examining her wounds was like stabbing my muscles with a silver dagger. Asides the cuts, and the mild concussion there was nothing to panic about. Still, the surge of adrenaline slithering through my veins petered out any sense of reasoning. I…I thought I'd lost her. Mental images of holding Riona's limp body emerged at the edges of my consciousness. Her body felt limp, cold. Riona's temperature was beyond belief. I unbuttoned her shirt, and waited for the slightest response from her— I got nothing. The lingering fear of losing her pressed further into my consciousness. I made a mental note to deal with Kanesha much later. For now, all I wanted to do was see Riona back to her feet. That was what mattered to me. I placed a bag of ice packs agains
THERON'S POV My curled fist hung midway in the air, as I fought with my guts whether to knock on her door or not. It's been a few days since I flipped on her. Somehow, Riona had thought the best option she could come up with was keeping to herself. The first couple of days I'd ignored her. Yep. I'd struggled through breakfast and having to train without feeling the gaze of a certain five foot six inches staring at me. Today was the height of it. Vuk had snugged me out of my sleep and dragged me straight to her door. ‘Vuk, we really don't have to do this,’ I tried to cajole him. He hissed. ‘Do what exactly?’ Vuk reiterated. My jaw clenched. ‘Going to meet her right in her room! It's absurd man, and you know it.’ ‘Hmm. Last I checked, a certain Alpha wouldn't keep his arms off his mate while in bed—’ Wait a quick minute. I cut him off before he had a chance to continue his rambling. ‘That was different and you know it. She was sick, sick! I couldn't let her suffer that alone.’ V
