Vincenzo’s P.O.V.

“I can walk by myself back home!”

I should have been irritated. Hell, a part of me wanted to argue, to remind her that she was still recovering from a grave illness. But I didn’t!

Instead, I smiled. Not one of those cocky, calculated smirks I wore like a mask every day, but a real one. Because for the first time since I brought her back, this was truly Ashley. The one who knew how to answer back.

Not the fragile girl, who hid in her room, constantly flinching from my touch like I was a danger.

That was my Ashley!

Sharp-tongued, strong-willed, and full of quiet storms that used to keep me awake at nights. All thanks to the Moon Goddess, she was alive again, but she hadn’t realized it.

“You are unbelievable!”

I muttered under my breath, unable to stop the curl of warmth in my chest. Ashley knitted her brows, utterly confused.

“What do you mean by that?”

“You think I will let you walk all the way to the mansion just to prove a point? Aren’t you underestimati

Vincenzo’s P.O.V.I still couldn’t believe it, even as I lay here, listening to the steady beeping of the monitor and the muffled sounds of nurses outside. My eyes refused to look away from her, Ashley, my Luna. She was adjusting the blinds now, letting in just a sliver of golden afternoon sun. Her movements were quite efficient, almost too graceful for a war-torn Alpha’s room. Her scent floated in the air, wildflowers and vanilla with a trace of pinewood, my scent had mingled with hers now. It wasn’t a dream. She had marked me!My fingers brushed the sensitive part of my neck habitually, the place her canines had touched. The mark pulsed softly with the bond, and every time I reached for it, I felt it.Goddess, she chose me!But how?I had spent so many nights believing that moment would ever come. Not after what I did. I thought she would never look at me with anything but loathing again. And now …Ashley sat beside my bed, head bent over some paperwork, brows furrowed

Ashley’s P.O.V.I gawked at him, caught off guard by his question. His accurate guess left me at a loss for words. For a moment, I wanted to lie and say no, pretending that I was fine like I always did.But the sudden ache in my chest didn’t let me do so. I bit back a whimper and admitted quietly.“Yes, I am. But it’s not a big deal. Pain and I ...” I gave a soft, humorless laugh. “We have been partners for a long time. It stays with me day and night like a loyal friend.”Dr. Alex’s gaze sharpened. “That’s exactly why I am insisting, Luna Ashley. You shouldn’t be in constant pain. That’s not strength, it’s suffering.”The concern in his voice focused on the urgency of this matter. I looked away as he continued. “Your wolf is gone. And your bond is incomplete despite the marking, pulling you from every direction. This kind of instability is dangerous for your physical and emotional health. I can’t let that go untreated. You are my patient, Luna.”“I am not weak!” I spoke up i

Ashley’s P.O.V.My response hung heavily in the air, creating an invisible wall between us. Vincenzo’s entire body stilled as he gasped in disbelief.“No?”The pain in his voice cut through my heart, urging me to clarify the situation. I paused, struggling to find the suitable words to convey my message. “I didn’t say never, Vincenzo. Just not yet. It’s too early.”“But why?”Alpha asked at once. His voice was laced with more confusion than hurt, but I could see countless questions rising in his eyes.“You have marked me, Ashley. You said you forgave me. Then why?Why are you not willing to take that cursed rejection back when it’s the only thing that’s keeping us apart?”He began to cough after speaking nonstop, hitching my heart to my throat. I got up and fed him water, caressing his back. “It’s not about forgiveness, Vincenzo.”I spoke softly, hoping that these words would settle the tension in his chest. But they didn’t!Vincenzo knitted his brows, his eyes observed

Ashley’s P.O.V. Carson looked up to Vincenzo for support, but Alpha’s lips were already curving in amusement. I snapped, narrowing my eyes at both of them. “You are awake for five minutes and let him crawl into your space. This is unfair!” As Alpha didn’t help him, Gamma Carson lifted his hand in mock surrender, though I didn’t miss the slight smirk tugging up his lips. “Relax, Ashley. I was just checking on my Alpha and updating him on everything he missed.” I crossed my arms, glaring at him as he gave me a silly excuse. Vincenzo was still pale, the IV dripping slowly at his side, his chest moving with tired breaths. But it didn’t stop Carson from bringing up work. “Report?” I scoffed. “Which report, Carson? Can’t you see he is sick? Alpha isn’t in the condition to be burdened with pack affairs right now.” Carson made a face like a scolded pup, hands still slightly raised. “Look, Ashley. I just wanted to visit Vincenzo. Meanwhile, I thought I should tell him …” “Luna!” T

Ashley’s P.O.V.Luna’s eyes were filled with fear; her voice cracked in a way that shattered me. “I have been calling him. But he isn’t waking up. He isn’t …”My stomach twisted painfully. “What?”I rushed forward, heart thundering in my chest again. Fear swallowed me as a whole as I followed Dr. Alex and Luna Rose back into the room. Vincenzo was lying peacefully just as I left him earlier. His head was turned slightly towards the pillow, lashes resting against his pale cheeks, lips parted with steady breath.“Vincenzo!” I whispered, my voice rose as I moved to his side. “Alpha … Please answer me!”Dr. Alex placed his hand on my shoulder and spoke.“Step back, Ashley. Let me examine him!”He checked Vincenzo’s vitals swiftly: monitors, heartbeat, pulse, pupils’ dilation. I stood there frozen, the seconds dragging like centuries. Luna Rose clasped her hands together, begging for the goddess’s mercy. We both were desperately waiting for some good news when finally, the doctor straig

Ashley’s P.O.V.Taking a deep breath, I carefully sat on the edge of his hospital bed, the sterile sheets crinkling under my weight, as I eased closer. Without thinking, I lay my head gently on Vincenzo’s chest, my hand resting just about his heart. His heartbeat was steady and smooth, ringing in my ears like a beautiful symphony. The rhythm of it calmed the war inside me, pulling tears from my eyes as I closed them in silent gratitude. “I forgive you, Vincenzo!”My voice was barely above a whisper as I said.“For the past, for everything! I just want to be with you for the rest of my life.”I sniffled softly, my tears dampening the thin fabric of his hospital gown. “Wake up and just tell me how much you love me, Vincenzo. I can’t live without you anymore.”Inhaling deeply, I relished his faint scent, no longer just crisp pinewood and musk. Now my scent was weaved into his, a soft wisp of wild flowers and vanilla beneath the storm. My heart raced as a realization hit me h
