Ashley’s P.O.V.

Luna Rose’s taunting statement cemented my feet to the ground, hitching my heart rate. Vincenzo appeared nervous, as if caught red-handed in the middle of a crime. He spoke, his voice lower now, edged with reluctant defeat.

“I will call the catering company for assistance, so there shouldn’t be any arduous task for her.”

A victorious smile stretched Luna Rose’s lips as she glared at me, narrowing her eyes in disgust. Vincenzo didn’t stop at just one permission. He added a list of instructions to it as well.

“Ashley will work under Jenna’s supervision. No stress, no bullying. She will take short breaks for her meals and medicines.

If I even heard a whisper that she is being mistreated …”

Although Vincenzo only gave in to put a stop to Luna Rose’s venomous tongue, she interrupted him.

“I will keep her busy. She owes us a lot.”

The fork clanked on the plate loudly as Vincenzo stood up, growling.

“I said help, not repayment!”

Alpha gazed at me, but didn’t say an

Vincenzo’s P.O.V. I hadn’t even gone for twenty-four hours and in my absence, chaos unfolded like wildfire. The last-minute Alphas’ meeting didn’t let me think of anything else, so I went to attend it in the Star Wolf Pack. It wasn’t in my imagination that this simple negligence would end up in a crisis. My cell phone was on silent during work. I didn’t get a chance to check the message. But when I read Jenna’s panicked texts, I returned home without wasting a second. The moment my car turned onto the gravel path of the Anderson mansion, I could feel the tension lingering in the air, bitter, and sharp like the aftermath of a storm. Ashley was dressed in her uniform for work; chin lifted like she owned the world. She didn’t flinch, didn’t soften when she saw me. Even her greeting was cold and distant, disregarding my peace offering like it was nothing. So, when she refused to take a rest, I didn’t push her. By the time she was out of my sight, I was already storming towards the

Ashley’s P.O.V.Cassidy just laughed and swept out of the room, the click of the door echoing like a sentence. Jenna rushed to my side, placing her hand on my shoulders. But I averted my face, tears burning my eyes.Cassidy’s words played on a loop in my head, scratching at wounds I had buried so deep that I almost forgot they exist. No last name, no family, no pack, no place.I was just Ashley!A nobody clinging to the ruins of the past that no one wanted to remember! My hands trembled in my lap as I sat there frozen, staring blankly at the floor. It felt like every foundation of my identity had been shattered into pieces, too sharp to put them together. My chest tightened until breathing hurt.“Ashley, the liability! That’s who I am now.”Hearing my bitter tone, Jenna knelt before me. Her warm hands clutched mine.“Just don’t listen to her, Ash. Cassidy is jealous, and you know it very well. Right? She sees how Vincenzo looks at you, so she is losing her mind to pull you d

Ashley’s P.O.V.The door burst open with a sharp bang, crashing against the wall as Cassidy appeared in front of me with all the triumph of a crowned queen. Her silk dress flowing behind her like a banner of victory. Her lips curled in a satisfied grin the moment she spotted me on the worn out mattress. Red eyes, cheeks damp, pride buried under the weight of humiliation.“Good!I just have to see it for myself.”Cassidy sang, stepping further into this tiny room like she owned it. Her eyes scanned the clipped walls, cracked mirror, and narrow space. “Charming little hole, isn’t it?You look perfectly at home, Ashley.”I stiffened, my spine straightening even as I wiped my tears with the back of my hands. It would be a stupidity to give her more than she had already taken. “Get out, Cassidy!”Jenna snapped, shielding me protectively. Cassidy laughed, her manicured nails brushing along the edge of our only table. “Touched a nerve?Oops!I am here only to share the good

Ashley’s P.O.V.Cassidy’s voice was low and sharp like a broken glass, injuring my soul. “Throwing yourself into his arms, screaming for help, only for trivial issues. I wouldn’t be surprised if this spider thing was just another one of your ploys.Pathetic!”The fury rose in my chest, hot and blistering. My fists clenched by my sides as I stood up, fighting with the urge to slap the smugness off her face. “I didn’t seduce anyone. And Alpha Vincenzo …”I said, voice firm, almost trembling with the effort it took to stay composed.“He is my past, not present. Don’t associate my name with him.”Cassidy laughed, a cold and sharp sound that scraped against my ears like metal. “Oh, darling!”She sneered, stepping closer as her pungent perfume suffocated me. “You keep telling yourself that. But you have always been shameless, didn’t you?A little stray mutt sniffing around Alpha’s heels, hoping for leftovers.”I felt heat rising to my face, bubbling into my throat as she co

Ashley’s P.O.V.My wolf, who was supposed to help me in dire situations, hid in the darkness of my mind, leaving me alone. I screamed like my soul was trying to evacuate my body through my throat as I stumbled backwards, slamming into the wall behind me.My heart pounded like a drum in my ears as this time, that hideous creature advanced towards the edge of the bed, its beady eyes focused right on me.And that was it! My legs moved before I could even think as I sprinted to the door and flung it open, nearly colliding with a broad, warm mountain of robust muscles. I gazed up and saw Vincenzo, half-dressed, chest heaving. The top buttons of his shirt open and his black shorts low on his hips. His hair was messed up like he’d been running.“Ashley? What happened?” He growled; his voice laced with concern. My mind went blank as, without a coherent thought, I jumped straight into his arms. My hands gripped the back of his shirt tightly, my face buried in the comforting warmth of hi

Ashley’s P.O.V.Shoot!The flush crept my neck before I could stop it. My mouth parted to deny it, but I could already feel the embarrassment burning through my cheeks.Without any struggle, Vincenzo had seen right through me. It didn’t take him long to guess I was right outside the meeting room. His grip around my arm wasn’t sharp, but it was firm enough to steal the breath from my lungs. Calming my racing heart, I tried to cover my unease with fake bravery, lifting my chin. “What if I did?”With that, I yanked my arm free, maintaining a three-feet distance between us for the sake of my safety. Vincenzo’s brows lifted, amused and stern all at once. That infuriating mix made my stomach twist in the worst possible way, but I continued.“Your councilmen were uttering poisonous statements in my presence. It’s my right to know what they were saying behind my back.”Something shifted in Vincenzo’s gaze, softening the edges. He asked, his voice low, almost biting. “Are you happy
