I had no idea what was going on, but I trusted Xavier. He trusted me and Dahlia, so he pressed the gas and didn’t stop until we were near the Silver Moon borders. We exchanged confused glances as we stopped behind a long line of cars.

“What’s going on?” Xavier muttered, craning his neck out the window to see what was happening at the border.

“What do you see? Who’s doing what?” I asked, feeling worried. Dahlia was still agitated, pushing us to leave Silver Moon territory as quickly as possible.

Xavier leaned back in his seat. “I don’t know, but I’ll go check it out.” He got out of the car and walked up to the car ahead of us. He bent down to the driver’s window and asked, “Hi, do you know what’s going on here? When did Silver Moon tighten their border security?” After all, we had entered yesterday without anyone stopping us.

“The Alpha gave the order early this morning,” the driver explained. “Every person and vehicle that passes through the border gates is being checked and recorded
