Chapter 4: Too Close
"Don't hurt me....please!" Jace spoke while asleep. He didn’t remember falling asleep, but he remembered the wolves bullying him and the fear he had while watching Elias going wild on them. Seeing Elias smashing a wolf on a tree like something out of a nightmare, then breaking hands and continous kicking was scary enough.
But for some reason, Jace's body felt warm. Elias sat still beside the bed and didn't move from his side for hours. He just sat there, hearing Jace breathe. Every rise and fall of his chest. Every tiny sound. Elias's wolf didn't allow him rest from within.
Touch him...Just once...Feel him.
Like that, unintentionally, Elias’s hand moved until he was sure his hand was over Jace's face. It hovered over Jace’s cheek. His fingers traced the air, close enough to feel the heat of Jace’s skin. And then his hand drifted lower, over the collarbone, across the blanket. Then his knuckles brushed against Jace’s ribs, light as a possible so as not to wake Jace.
He got carried away and leaned in, close enough to feel Jace’s breath on his lips and get some of his scent. He couldn't understand why Jace's scent made him feel safe. Why it made the air easier to breathe. Why his wolf, so silent for years, now paced, growled and whispered...
Ours...Ours...Ours.
He imagined pressing his lips on Jace's.
“Just once,” Elias whispered. “Let me have just this one moment.”He leaned in more, so close his forehead nearly touched Jace’s. And that’s when Jace’s eyes opened. He stared at Elias, eyes wide and confused.
Their noses were inches apart.“Alpha?” Jace gasped, his brain now functioning. Elias jerked back, hands flying into the air like he’d been burned. “I... I wasn’t..." Elias started.
Jace shot up, grabbing the blanket, pulling it to his chest like armor. His body trembled so hard the bed shook.
“Please… please don’t, sir...” Jace stammered.“Don’t call me sir right now,” Elias said immediately, but with a soft tone.
“Sorry, sir. I mean...” Jace flinched again.
“Jace.”
Jace looked like he might cry, run or vanish. But Elias couldn't see his face.
Elias could only hear his heart beating loud...showing he was scared in an unusual way.Elias lowered himself to the chair and sat cross-legged. Trying not to make any sudden moves.
“I wasn’t going to hurt you,” he said. “I just… couldn’t stop feeling you.”
“I-I thought you were angry with me, sir.”
“Stop saying sir! Why do you always end every sentence with sir? "
Jace looked confused. “But I don’t know what else to call you...”
“Elias,” he said gently. “My name is Elias.”
"I can't call Alpha by his name. I am but a lowly servant." Jace said quietly.
The candle flickered while Jace’s hands stayed clutched at the blanket. His face was flushed and his breathing was inconsistent.“Why were you so close...sir?” he whispered. “Were you going to… do something.............sir?”
Elias let out a long breath even though hearing the word 'sir' from Jace was annoying him deep inside. “I wanted to. But I didn’t. I won’t.”
“You… wanted to?” Jace’s voice cracked like glass.
Elias’s throat tightened but he at least felt relied that Jace didn't say sir to the last sentence.
"Sir...." Jace added.
Elias could feel his blood pressure coming up but he held himself and nodded in response. “You make me feel things I haven’t felt before. I don’t know what to do with that.”
“I’m not gay...sir...I'm not attracted to men...I don't find men attractive.,” Jace said quickly.
“Okay...that was way too straight forward.” Elias stood, two hands on his hips, frustrated at what Elias just said.
"Sorry sir"
"Stop Calling Me SIR!"
Jace kept quiet and didn't respond."The other day, you said I was attractive." Elias pointed out, trying not to look more frustrated.
"Sir, that was....it was...I just admired and appreciated your appearance...cause we hardly find anyone with your looks...nothing more sir." Jace adjusted himself on the bed, still covered and protecting himself for his own dear sexual orientation.
"I see! This my God Damn attractive appearance that can't even be attractive enough to pull in the one I want!" Elias murmured, kicking the bottom part of the wall repeatedly. "Oh and one thing...if you call me sir one more time, I'll kiss you."
He said it with a smirk. Jace panicked upon hearing it. His pulse rate increasing so fast, Elias could hear how fast his heart started beating.
"Don't know if that's a good sign." He murmured to himself.
“I don’t want to be touched that way.” Jace finally spoke.
Elias noticed what Jace had done. He didn't say sir. He corrected himself immediately. “I didn’t.” He responded.
“But you almost did.”
“…Yes.”
There was silence again. Jace wanted to desperately crawl out of the room but he couldn't move. Suddenly, the door creaked open and Gavin stepped in.
He took one look at Jace’s wide eyes and Elias’s clenched fists.
He raised an eyebrow. “Should I come back later?”
“Stay,” Elias said.
"I came to apologize to you for what happened earlier." Gavin said, quietly.
"It's fine. I know you had no bad intention. I was just angry at that time." Elias responded.
Jace pulled the blanket tighter. “ Elias, please don’t let anyone else in here, to avoid rumors...please!”
“He’s my second,” Elias said. “He won’t do anything like that. He’s only here to help.”
Gavin crossed his arms, shocked by Jace calling Elias by his first name already. He put one and two together then said to Elias, “Looks like you were the one touching.”
“Gavin,” Elias warned.
“Right, right. None of my business. Except you almost broke a man in half today, and now you’re whispering by candlelight to the one who makes you go rabid.” He glanced at Jace. “You alright, kid?”
Jace didn’t answer. He just stared at Elias, his voice shaking.
“Why are you doing this to me?”
Elias didn’t understand. “Doing what?”
“You make me feel like I can breathe and choke at the same time."
Gavin stepped back toward the door. “Okay. I’ve heard enough poetic tension for one night.”
Then he left the room. Gavin knew this was forbidden in their world but he watched Elias for a long time, and he knew this was the first time Elias reacted to anyone like that. Gavin took a deep breath in front of the door, then went to his room, not far from the Alpha's room.
Elias came closer and leaned forward, but slower this time, a little more careful.
“You smell like home, Little Wolf” he whispered.
“I’m not.”
“You feel like peace.”
“I don’t.”
“Then why can’t I stop needing you?”
Jace didn’t have an answer. He was shaking and still Elias could hear and feel it in every heartbeat. He reached out again. His fingers brushed Jace’s,
but Jace flinched hard, knocking over the candle and the flame went out.Darkness swallowed them both. Elias stood but Jace couldn’t see him anymore. But he felt the space between them grow again.
“You don’t want me to touch you,” Elias said. “Fine.”
He walked to the door, angry. Jace couldn't breath.
“But don’t ever lie to me again about what you feel.”
And then he slammed the door and left .
Leaving Jace letting out the air he had held in.And Elias outside, jaw clenched, heart breaking. Was he misinterpreting how he felt? How his wolf felt within him?
Elias smirked. "He said he is straight, but that wont last for long. My Little Wolf..." Elias whispered, he wasn't going to give up, he was going to make Jace fall for him.
Suddenly, Elias felt a presence, he turned towards that direction, "I know you are there, come out..."
"Gavin," Elias said quietly, fingers still curled into the edge of the mattress. "Tell me."Gavin stood in the doorway, arms crossed. "Tell you what?"Elias turned his head slightly. "What he looks like. Jace. I want to know."Gavin hesitated. "Did someone describe him to you already?"Elias gave a slow nod. "The King."Gavin's jaw tightened. "You shouldn't meet with him one-on-one. You know he has feelings for you, right?"Elias's lips curled in, pouting "I know. It makes things worse. But I can't disobey when he gave the instruction in front of everyone...""What did he say about Jace?""Too much... Enough to make me want to claw the words from his throat."Since they were young, Gavin knew that Elias wasn't attracted to women. He was attracted to men. But despite that, he avoided men just because he wanted to mate with the right one...the one he felt a connection with; and right now Gavin was convinced it was Jace. He hardly ever saw Elias in this state. Gavin sighed. "You want co
“And his waist…” the King exhaled, almost dreamy. “Deliciously small...Like you could wrap both hands around it while he gasps into your mouth. And the waist goes out to these impossibly long legs. Legs that cross so politely when he sits, but you know...oh, you can guess...that they’d look and feel even better splayed wide open.”“Shut up,” Elias growled, annoyed that the King was going too far.The King chuckled, enjoying the effect. "Imagine them wrapped around you...""Stop it!..." Elias raised his voice. The King ignored him. “But it’s his face that would drive you crazy...cause he is pretty...”He moved around Elias like a serpent circling prey. “Big eyes... like cinnamon. They glisten, honest and wide, like he’s still untouched by the filth of the world. And his lips...” The King exhaled slowly. “Small and heart-shaped...the softest pink I
"You sent for me," Elias said, stepping into the grand stone chamber with his usual calm, collected voice. He never liked coming to meet the King privately cause he always had an idea what it might be. "I always send for what pleases me," said the King of Alphas, already leaning against the wide window that overlooked the courtyard. His white hair was packed up in a bun. "And you, Elias, are rarely in sight. An Alpha that is pleasing to the eyes.""You never get tired of trying, do you?" Elias murmured. "Why would I give up on someone who looks like you and has your aura? Even though you don't respond to my advances, I take what I can get.""Then take your fill," Elias said, arms crossed. "Quickly...I have a pack to run."He chuckled, looking at Elias lustfully. "Oh, but wouldn’t it be easier if you let someone run it with you?" the King said, stepping forward slowly. His voice lowered. "Someone who understands your silence...your strength...your needs and adores you."Elias didn't
The summit hall was colder than Jace expected. It wasn't about the temperature, it was about the energy. Dozens of high-ranking wolves filled the chamber, all commanding, dominant, elegant, and dangerous in a way Jace couldn’t explain. Jace stood just behind Elias, head bowed slightly with his hands folded in front of him, doing everything he could to not breathe too deeply. As they walked pass them, they took a good look at Jace, before greeted Elias. The Alpha's were all sitting down now, but Elias stood still, arms folded, his pale eyes hidden beneath his dark lashes, waiting at the entrance to welcome the Alpha King, which was a job designated to him by the King himself. When the Alpha King arrived, he walked in like his title. No one needed to tell you he was the Alpha King. He was tall, built up, with long pale hair pulled back in a braid, and a smile that never reached his eyes. As soon as he got in, everyone stood up immediately and bowed. But he didn't move in immediatel
When they got to the mansion. Jace couldn't sleep. He twisted in the sheets, throwing them off, then pulling them back again. His thighs were damp with sweat and they ached. His lips parted in little gasps, even though the room was cool. He couldn't breath well.Something was wrong with him. Jace lay there, wide-eyed, breathing hard, waiting for the sun to save him.By morning, he still hadn’t found himself. Elias left early for something important and was going to be back by afternoon to prepare and head to the Alpha's meeting. Jace was restless. He had never felt this way in his life. He washed himself twice, changed his clothes and kept his head down. But the moment he passed through the main hallway the warriors stared at him.One even stopped mid-step and sniffed the air, blinking like he'd lost track of where he was. Jace just kept walking and doing his chores. But things got worse. One young warrior, he was broad-shouldered and high-ranked; he stepped into Jace path and block
The club was loud but not loud enough to cover the sound of Jace’s heartbeat. Elias walked straight towards Jace, irritated that Jace would come to a place like this. His little innocent wolf...getting corrupted was the least thing he wanted.“Leaving the mansion in the middle of the night, drinking questionable things in a club, and rubbing against strangers?” Elias’s voice was calm as he stopped in front of Jace. “Is this who you are now, Little Wolf?”"No...I....I..."Elias stepped closer, “do you even know what this place is?”“I was just trying to clear my head,” Jace replied. “I heard others talk about it.”“Others like you?” Elias said.Jace looked away. “How...how did you find me?”“I followed your scent. I always do...and your little heartbeat.” Elias’s words were simple.Jace took a shaky step back, bumping into someone. “You can’t just stalk me...”“You left the mansion and it was obvious cause your scent left with you. All I had to do was follow it.” Elias stepped closer.
