"Evie."

Her mother’s eyes lit up the moment she finally saw her. Eve slowly sat down on the chair beside the bed and took her mother’s hand.

"How are you feeling now?" she asked, looking at her lovingly.

"I’m feeling much better. I’m sorry I made you and Perry worry. I should be the one taking care of you two," her mom said with a bitter smile.

"Nonsense. How can you say that? It’s our responsibility to take good care of you," she retorted immediately.

She heard her mother sigh quietly while scanning the whole room.

"I’m just worried that I will burden you with the hospital bills. I could have stayed in an ordinary ward. You didn’t have to put me in a private room," her mother complained despite her condition.

Eve’s mouth twitched slightly. If only her mother knew that she was actually in a VIP room, she would be even more shocked. But with Mr. Harris’s arrangements, she couldn’t do anything about it.

Alex and his companions were set to fly back to Summerville in the morning. Since their mother had decided to stay in Finnland, there was no reason for them to prolong their stay. He still had a lot to deal with. After everything, the pending paperwork at the company was already piling up.They had already finalized certain negotiations with Rupert regarding their mutual enemy. It was only a matter of time.Upon learning that they would be returning to Summerville so soon, Celest requested a private conversation with her three sons. She sat across from them elegantly, her gaze lingering on each of them—Earl, Alex, and Jaxon. Three men, shaped by different pasts and hardships, yet tied together by the undeniable bond of blood.A warm yet solemn silence filled the room as she took in their faces. Earl, the eldest, with his quiet strength and unwavering loyalty. Alex, cold and calculating, yet fiercely protective. Jaxon, the enigmatic one, whose depth remained a mystery even to those clo

The atmosphere inside Rupert's study room was almost suffocating, pressing between the two powerful men like an invisible force.Alex stood with his hands in his pockets, his sharp gaze locked on Rupert, who sat calmly behind his dark and polished desk.Rupert was the first to break the silence.“I supposed you disapprove.” His voice was level, yet there was an underlying challenge beneath it.Alex’s expression was nothing less than complacent. It seemed like he was just facing an ultimate nuisance. He was still digesting Celest's final decision. His mother’s choice had come as a surprise, but he wasn’t here to question it. She had made her choice, and no matter how much of a stranger Rupert was to him, Celest had already decided to stay by his side.“If my mother chose to stay, I have no right to stop her,” Alex said finally. His voice was steady, but there was a cold edge to it. “But let me make one thing clear. She’s suffered enough. If she suffers again because of you, I won’t hes

Silence stretched through the room like a tightening noose. Rupert's mind struggled to grasp the weight of Celest’s words.Earl.. was his son?His gaze flickered to the young man beside Alex—tall, strong, carrying an air of quiet determination. Rupert had always felt something strange about Earl, a familiarity he couldn’t place. But now…The truth hit him with the force of a hurricane.Earl was his flesh and blood. His throat worked as he tried to speak, but no words came. His mind was a storm, flashing back to the past, to the moment he had lost Celest. He had thought he lost everything. Now, after three decades of darkness, the woman he had loved had returned to him—along with the son he never knew existed. His fingers curled into fists. "Celest…"But he couldn’t find the words.Earl, sitting on the other end of the long sofa next to Jaxon, was no less shaken. His usually steady composure wavered as he stared at Celest, then at Rupert. All those years, he had grown up believing he w

The room fell into a pin-drop silence.Celest’s gaze darted between the three men seated on the long couch—Alex, Earl, and Jaxon. Her heart pounded in her chest as her eyes landed on Jaxon, confusion clouding her features. Her lips parted, and when she spoke, her voice was barely above a whisper.“Jaxon… what are you doing here?”This sudden visit from them gave her a bit of a surprise, especially with Jaxon's presence here. There was something unspoken in the air, something heavy pressing down on her. Before Jaxon could respond, Alex rose to his feet and stepped forward. His tall, commanding figure exuded an air of control, his expression calm yet edged with finality. He was a man of few words, but every word he spoke carried weight.“He’s here because he has every right to be.”Celest’s brows furrowed. The weight of his words unsettled her.“What do you mean?” she asked, an uneasy feeling twisting in her gut.A slow exhale escaped Alex’s lips before he finally spoke again, his voice

The morning air was crisp in Summerville, carrying the faint scent of autumn leaves drifting through the open balcony doors.Inside their bedroom, Eve watched Alex silently as he buttoned his black dress shirt, his movements precise, controlled—just like him.She bit her lip, hesitation flickering in her eyes. His departure had weighed on her mind all night, yet she had said nothing. Now, as the moment neared, she could no longer keep quiet."Are you sure you have to go?" she finally asked, her voice softer than she intended.Alex paused briefly, his hands stilling before he resumed fastening the last button. Then, turning to her, his gaze softened upon seeing the worry etched across his wife’s delicate features."I won’t be gone for long," he said simply."I know. I just feel uneasy about it," Eve admitted.Alex sighed and walked over to her. He reached out, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear before letting his fingers trail down her cheek."I have to do this," he murmured

Back to Summerville...Samuel’s gaze softened as he watched Ellie across the candlelit table. She sat with quiet grace and elegance, her slender fingers resting on the stem of her wine glass. The hum of low conversations and clinking glasses from the other tables surrounded them, but Samuel’s attention was solely on her.Ellie lifted her gaze, meeting his eyes. "You’ve been unusually quiet," she noted, her tone light but observant.Samuel’s lips curled faintly. "I was just wondering how I managed to convince you to have dinner with me."Ellie’s brow lifted. "I’m still wondering that myself."Samuel chuckled, leaning back slightly in his chair. His suit was tailored to perfection, the dark fabric complementing his refined air."Well, I’m not complaining."He was already too happy and grateful because, after a few months of consistently courting his ex-wife, she had finally let her guard down with him.Ellie’s lips twitched in a soft smile as she swirled the wine in her glass without ta
