Kael's POV

The moment her words hit me, it was like everything inside me shattered at once.

“Promise me you’ll come back to me,” Lyria whispered, her voice fragile but piercing, her hand protectively cradling her belly, her eyes brimming with a deep, aching fear that mirrored my own. And then that tear—damn it—that single tear slid down her cheek, glinting in the dim light like a blade straight to my heart.

I froze.

My hand was still gripping the doorknob, but all my strength drained from it. I stared at her, the love of my life—the woman carrying our child—standing there looking so heartbreakingly vulnerable yet impossibly strong. I couldn’t do it. Couldn’t just walk away. Not like that.

I dropped my hand from the knob and turned back, my boots thudding heavily against the polished floor as I strode across the room. Before she could say another word, I pulled her into my arms, wrapping her tightly, as though I could shield her from everything, from fate itself.

She melted into me i

Hood’s POVThe moment our lips met out there in front of the pack, something inside me… shifted. I couldn’t even explain it. The world blurred—the sounds of victory howls, the tired cheers of warriors returning from battle—all of it faded into silence except for the wild hammering of my own heart. Mira was right here, pressed against me, her breath trembling like mine, her hands gripping my arms as though she feared I might vanish again. But when we broke apart, reality rushed back in, heavy and sharp. My lungs burned, and my eyes flicked instinctively toward Kael and Lyria, catching the faintest smile before they turned and disappeared into the palace. For a heartbeat, I stood frozen. What the hell had I just done? No—what had we just done?Mira’s gaze lingered on mine, uncertain, searching.“You should… you should rest,” she said, her voice breathy, a little shaky. But she didn’t move. And neither did I.Instead, we just stood there, caught in this strange current neither of us see

Hood’s POV Mira’s breathing had just begun to slow, her head resting peacefully on my chest, when I felt her fingers tracing lazy circles across my skin. But there was something in her touch—light, teasing—that made my pulse kick up again. I glanced down, catching the faintest smile on her lips, and I couldn’t help the smirk tugging at mine.“What are you up to, hmm?” I murmured, brushing my fingers through her hair. She looked up at me, her eyes glinting with that mix of sweetness and curiosity that always got under my skin. “Nothing,” she whispered innocently. But her fingertips didn’t stop moving; they trailed lower, skimming my abdomen with just enough pressure to make my muscles twitch.“Mmm.” I let out a low chuckle, my hand sliding down her bare back, feeling her shiver. “You know you’re a terrible liar, right?”Her smile deepened, and before I could react, she shifted, propping herself up over me, her hair cascading around her shoulders like a silken curtain. Kael's POVThe firelight flickered in the corner of the room last night when I returned to Lyria after addressing the pack. She was waiting for me, eyes bright and wide with concern, one hand resting instinctively on her belly as though to shield the baby. The moment I stepped through the door, her gaze locked onto mine, and before I could utter a word, she said quietly, “Kael… something isn’t right.”I crossed the room in a few strides and pulled her gently into my arms, pressing my lips to her temple. “What is it, my love?”She leaned back just enough to meet my eyes, her voice trembling slightly, but her expression calm—too calm, as if she were forcing herself to hold it together. “It’s the baby… or rather, it’s me. I’ve been feeling things lately. Strange things. But tonight, Kael, I could almost see it. There’s a darkness lurking among us… faint but cold. And it’s watching. Waiting.”A shiver ran through me. Lyria’s POVMy breaths came in ragged gasps as I tried to keep my head above the surface of the deep, cold, and relentless river.I forgot how to catch my own breath the moment I watched my mum’s body gradually sink deeper. Desperation coursed through my entire existence as I struggled against the current.“Hold on, Mom, please!” I cried, reaching for her. After what felt like a lifetime, I was happy that I had almost gotten to her. Albeit unsettling that her head was now dangerously below the water and she wouldn't last long there, her struggling hands above it still offered me a glimmer of hope.In no time, I covered the little gap left between us, only for me to try and connect my hand with hers, and then—my fingers brushed nothing but air.To my utter bewilderment, she didn’t even drown. She just vanished. My loud scream was met with derisive laughter as I jerked back to life. To reality.I wasn’t dreaming anymore, yet water dripped down my face in a slow, steady trickle. My mat

  • Fated to the Cursed Alpha King   Chapter 2: The Mountain Lion

Lyria's POV The first hint of dawn touched the sky, spurring the still village into motion once again. The large Elder's compound was bustling than usual as pups ran around, their eyes alight with laughter and adventure. None of them cared a hoot about how early it was to be running around. The only thing that mattered to them was that the long awaited Red Moon Festival was here and they couldn't contain their joy. While some adults were also gallivanting, some busied themselves with last-minute preparations for the festival tonight. But as always, I was the one doing the most. Everyone else was excited as though the moon goddess herself was descending tonight, but for me, I wasn't seeing the lure. I would just do what I have to do and leave. On my way to fetch a mop from the store, I caught snippets of two apparently unmated adult girls of my age discussing. “You must be joking to think you can outshine me,” one said to the other playfully. “ By the time I get dolled up, and t

But I hadn't gotten far when realization dawned on me that I could never outrun this beast. Not when I couldn't even shift. Not when my wolf is latent and weak. I was exhausted, and far too slow.Desperation clawed at my chest as I skulked my way into a thick bush, crouching as low as possible to avoid being detected. The lion skidded to a stop just a few feet away, scanning the area with narrowed eyes, looking confused. The confusion was replaced by anger as it let out a powerful roar.Powerful enough to make me cower even more with my heart racing to an alarming rate, but not powerful enough to make me stupidly come out of hiding, throw my hands in the air and offer myself as a living sacrifice. It couldn’t see me. But I could see it through the tiny space the

Kael's POVWhen I told Garrik I suspected that something or someone was in the foliage, Garrik didn't waste time aiming his bow, his muscles taut, ready to release the arrow into whatever—or whoever—was lurking there. “Just leave it to me your majesty,“ he said to me. I couldn't have chosen a better head enforcer. Apart from being my best warrior who trains the other warriors in the pack, he's also skillful with the bow and arrows. And most times, that's the advantage he has over my playful beta who can put up with him to some extent when he doesn't use his bow and arrow.Just as Garrik was about releasing the arrow, a voice suddenly cut through the moment like a razor, making us pause. “Alpha!”Talk of the devil. There was my Beta, Hood, striding towards us as I turned. He was wearing that ever-present smirk of his. As my personal assistant, Hood had an uncanny ability to show up at the most inconvenient moments."It’s time to start preparing for the Blood Moon Festival," he remin

  • Fated to the Cursed Alpha King   Chapter 91: Fragile Moment

Lyria's POVMy eyes fluttered open to the familiar soft rustle of the curtains, but something immediately felt…off. I blinked a few times, trying to chase away the drowsiness that clung to me like a second skin. The bed was unusually empty beside me, and a quick glance around confirmed my suspicion that Kael wasn’t here. My fingers grazed the side of the mattress where he should have been, still warm but quickly cooling."Kael?" I called out softly, expecting his deep voice to answer from the bathroom or perhaps from the corner where he sometimes sat when he couldn’t sleep. But I was only greeted with silence.I frowned, struggling to sit up. My hand instinctively went to my belly, cradling the weight of the life growing inside me. These days, even the smallest effort seemed monumental. The heaviness of my pregnancy tugged me back down, but something gnawed at my insides, a restlessness that wouldn't let me linger in bed any longer.I swung my legs over the side of the bed, my bare f

Kael's POVAs soon as the first hint of dawn touched the sky, a pale wash of light creeping over the horizon, I carefully slipped out of bed, doing my best not to wake Lyria. She looked so peaceful, her dark lashes resting on her cheeks, her breathing soft and even. But beneath that serenity lay the weight of everything Mira had told us the night before. I didn’t want to disturb her—she needed all the rest she could get after everything.Closing the door behind me with a soft click, I made my way down the quiet corridor toward Hood’s room. I needed to see him. If there was anyone I trusted to brainstorm this with, it was him, before the elders. He had always been my right hand, my shield when I couldn't be everywhere at once. And now, with danger creeping closer and closer, I needed his sharp mind more than ever.As I approached his door, something flickered in my mind—I hadn’t really seen or heard from him since yesterday afternoon. But then again, I had been so preoccupied with Lyr

Hood's POVI woke up with a start, sitting up slowly as dawn light seeped through the curtains. The familiar ache in my chest greeted me like an old friend, hollow and stubborn. My eyes wandered to the window. The sky looked gray, overcast with thick clouds hanging low, as though reluctant to let in any brightness. At least it was better than yesterday. Yesterday… when everything had suddenly gone dark even before the evening came. The eclipse.A shiver ran down my spine just thinking about it. I’d stood by the window then too, watching the sky twist and churn, my gut tight with unease. It wasn’t supposed to be eclipse season. Kael must have noticed it as well, but with everything going on with his mate, he hadn’t been around much to talk. And honestly? I didn’t have the energy to push the thought further. I had waved it off eventually, chalking it up to some random fluke of nature. But deep down, my instincts… they had whispered otherwise.I dragged a hand down my face, exhaling lo

Kael's POV It took everything in me to pet Lyria to sleep after Mira dropped that terrible bombshell of a dream.I’d sat there, numb at first, staring into the dim light of our room as Lyria trembled in my arms. Even after Mira left—her face pale, her words still hanging heavy in the air—Lyria couldn’t stop shaking. I’d held her close, rubbing soothing circles over her back, whispering reassurances I wasn’t even sure I believed myself. But it wasn’t until her breathing finally evened out, her lashes damp against her cheeks, that I let my own guard slip.I lay beside her, staring up at the ceiling as the moonlight filtered through the curtains. My muscles were tense, my mind racing in a million directions.Mira’s words kept echoing in my head.“Your baby possesses powers of his own, even before birth. But there’s still an existing magic somewhere... something old, something dark... it must be destroyed before it finds its way to your child.”Our child. My hand had instinctively gone t
