Chapter 31

LYRA

There is no light inside my cell except what filters through the cracks around the door. I cannot tell how long I have been in this cell. Cain has come in twice and tried to reason with me. Both times left me battered and bruised. The door to my cell opens once again and Cain comes in with a tray of food. I have been in this moment before, and it did not end well for me. Cain drops the tray of food just within my reach and goes to leave.

“Wait,” I call out with a little desperation in my voice. “Please stay with me.”

Cain’s eyes are wide with suspicion, but he still turns and pulls a chair close to where he dropped the tray. I let my eyes glance quickly to the door behind him and I see that he has left it cracked open. My eyes flicker back to Cain, his eyes are focused on my chest, and he licks his lips lustfully. I repress the revolting shudder that wants to wash over my body at his action.
