Chapter 38
JAMES
Andrew and I are pacing back and forth outside of my bedroom door. The pack doctor chased us from the room when our hovering became “overbearing.” Every once and a while I press my ear against the door of my room and try to hear what is happening on the other side. Andrew occasionally leans against the railing and tries to feel through the mate bond to see if he can feel what is going on. But Lyra has her feelings closely guarded and has effectively learned to shut us out. Impatience and anger is rolling off of Andrew in waves, and I can tell that he is about to do something erratic. Just as he is about to explode, the doctor opens the door with a passive look upon his face.
“Luna Lyra is going to be just fine,” he sighs, “but if we could talk some place private before I leave I think it would be for the best.”

LYRA We let our wolves chase each other through the forest until the morning sun began to peek over the horizon. Back on the front porch of the packhouse, our wolves finally relented, and we shifted back into our human forms. Lying on the porch floor, naked and covered in dirt, we attempted to catch our breath. Andrew turns on his slide and looks me up and down. “You look filthy,” he smirks wiping a smudge of dirt off my cheek. “You are equally gross,” I say pulling bits of grass out of his hair. “Come on,” I grab his hand and pull him to his feet. “Before the whole pack sees us naked on the front porch.” Leading him up the stairs and into our room, I head straight for the bathroom and turn on the shower. ANDREWI enter the front office the hotel and to my surprise Grace is waiting for me at the front desk. “It took you long enough,” she whispers, waving her hand for me to follow her to the back office. I follow her into the office and see that she has tea and cookies set up on a small table in the center of the room. This room is different from the rest of the hotel. It is nicely decorated and does not smell of mildew or mold. Beautiful turn of the century furniture adorns the room, and every inch of the room is clean. Thick burgundy curtains hang on either side of the single window in the room, keeping any light from the outside from being able to filter inside. A single light illuminates the room, if not for my wolf eyesight it would be difficult to see around the room. ANDREWShattered glass is still all over the ground where Lyra busted through the front door of the building where she was being held. Blood still stains the ground and the glass. Unable to suppress my anger a growl erupts from my chest as we walk across the broken glass, knowing the pain that she went through to escape. Sniffing the air as I enter, Lyra’s scent is faint in the air along with several other wolves. Splitting into groups of two we each take off in different directions searching the building for clues to where they may have gone next. Following what is remaining of Lyra’s scent in the building I find myself inside I small room with a metal door. There is only a bed and a toilet within the room. Heavy metal chains lay abandoned on the floor with what I can only assume are silver cuffs at the end of each. Blood splatter remains on the bed and cement walls and floor. ANDREWI knock on Kristof’s door, not knowing what to expect when I walk inside. It is not often that a pack member finds their mate among a group of rogues. It is widely known that female rogues are mistreated and abused by their male counter parts, and by the marks and bruises that cover her arms and legs I am sure she is not an exception to the rule. Kristof cracks the door open slightly, peeking through the crack to see me standing there. LYRAMy heart and head seem to be pounding at the same rhythm as I attempt to open my eyes. I open my eyes slightly seeing nothing but darkness in front of me. My hands are bound with silver cuffs in front of my body and my ankles are bound together as well. My mouth is gagged with a piece of cloth that is tied on so tightly it makes me want to puke. Staring into the dark, I focus my breathing and try to calm myself down. The memories from before I was knocked out are hazy. I concentrate all of my energy on trying to remember everything that happened. The last clear memory that is in my head is clearly not my own. Cain was standing before his mate, rejecting him.
