Chapter 7

Author: Cora Seals
Nicolas reached out, wanting to touch my flayed cheek, but his hand hovered and fell.

"Who could be so cruel?" he choked. "Mabel must have been in so much pain."

Orlando was as pale as a sheet, his hands covering his face. In my dazed state, I thought I saw something glittering between his fingers.

Jeremy, who was always so quick with sarcastic remarks, didn't mock my current ugliness. He collapsed to the floor, pounding it with his fist. "How could you just die like that? Mabel, get up! Say something!"

No one answered.

Jeremy's phone rang, and Leo's excited voice echoed. "Bring Orlando to celebrate Gina's success tonight!"

Jeremy responded blankly, "We can't come. We're all here with Mabel."

Leo was surprised by his flat refusal. "Come on. Does that witch put you under a spell? Gina is your sister."

Gina, looking hurt, spoke up. "It's okay. I understand if they don't want to come. Mabel is more important."

Jeremy's throat tightened. He growled painfully, "She is my real siste

In the interrogation room, the captain laid out all the evidence.Gina's usual pitiful show was useless now."After finding the diamond shard under the victim's fingernail," the captain said, "we checked every buyer of that necklace. None was missing a stone. Then we contacted the manufacturer, who told us about one necklace that never went through official purchase records—yours. The one in your jewelry box is missing exactly one diamond of the matching size."Gina's gentle mask shattered. The grievance disappeared, replaced by a chilling coldness. "That's your evidence? Maybe Mabel stole it and ripped the stone out herself."The sudden shift in her attitude stunned the Zimmermans and Leo. The girl they always believed to be obedient and sweet now looked like a stranger—cold and terrifying.I laughed bitterly, shaking my head. Her mask fell too fast, leaving the people who trusted her defenseless."How ruthless!" said the captain, gritting his teeth. "If not for the wildlife cam

Nicolas had taken Gina on an overseas vacation and given the employees a holiday break.Orlando buried himself in work, while Jeremy suddenly suffered from kidney stones, so painful that he vomited nonstop.I dragged him to the hospital in such a rush that I didn't even put on my shoes. By the time we arrived, my bare feet were torn and bleeding. When he woke up and saw me running around taking care of him, he whispered, "I won't treat you that badly anymore."I smiled and cut him a slice of apple, tears shining in my eyes. For the first time, I thought I had finally been accepted. My heart was full of joy as I secretly planned a birthday surprise for him.But the cuff design I drew for him was spotted by Gina, who cried to everyone, accusing me of stealing her idea.I thought Jeremy would side with me this time, but he shoved me away, his eyes filled with unmistakable disgust, as if my very presence contaminated the air around him."Old habits die hard, huh? I thought you'd cha

"Enough! The dead deserve respect!" Orlando growled. "What did Mabel give you to make you play me like this?"But Neville wasn't wrong. It was the second year after the Zimmermans brought me back. Gina insisted I accompany her to ice‑skating lessons, where she "accidentally" kicked me several times with her blades. The last time I dodged, she missed me and fell to the ground. Jeremy rushed over at the sound, carefully lifting her into his arms.Without asking a single question, he grabbed my hair and dragged me straight to the dog kennel. Inside were two vicious mastiffs.Jeremy held Gina by the hand, both giggling as they watched me scream. They didn't let me out until my arms and thighs were torn open and dripping with blood.Penniless, I covered my wounds and went to find Orlando. But Neville blocked the door, helpless and apologetic. He stared at my bleeding arm, gave me some money, and told me to get myself treated because Orlando was busy with work. But even through the c

The room fell into dead silence.Orlando gritted his teeth, his voice dry and strained. "What kind of sick joke is this? Did Mabel put you up to this?"Neville took a deep breath. "We found her phone in the swamp near the scene. Our captain and the team think the victim might be..."I had always sent Orlando peace charms and health tonics through Neville. He and I got along reasonably well. And yet now, even he was being doubted.Gina's pupils shrank. She had thrown away my main phone, never dreaming I kept a backup.I watched the people in front of me with a strange, cold curiosity, almost eager to see how they would react to the news of my death.Jeremy froze, his gaze unfocused for a few seconds before a cold laugh slipped out. "Mabel really is fearless, huh? She even dared to murder someone and left evidence?"I couldn't believe my ears. A sharp, crawling pain spread through my chest as though something venomous was gnawing at me.His words burrowed deeper and deeper, stabb

Gina flinched at the news. After all, she had pushed me off that cliff with her own hands. Her expression tightened. "W-When did you see her? She has been out of touch for a while. Everyone's worried sick."The caller paused, recalling, "A few days ago. I went to the hospital and ran into her. Her face was deathly pale."Gina let out a tiny breath of relief, quickly masking it with performed panic. "Don't talk nonsense. Mabel isn't like that."Nicolas exhaled sharply through his nose, his face reddening with fury. "That disgraceful tramp, embarrassing us out there for the world to see! How did I end up with such a shameless daughter?"Jeremy patted Leo's shoulder. "Good thing you never liked her. Mabel's just a lying, filthy witch."Leo nodded solemnly, then looked at Gina tenderly. "The only woman I love is Gina. I would never marry someone as shameless as Mabel."Listening to his righteous tone, I gave a cold, mocking smile.Of course. Whether it was my fault or not, none of
