Chapter 3

Author: Severed Thoughts
Serana's face was streaked with tears. A group of she-wolves from wealthy packs were shoving and pushing her.

With hands balled into tight fists and a jaw tight with tension, Trey stared fixedly toward the second floor.

But in the end, he didn't go up. Instead, he turned toward me.

I knew he wanted me to clean up the mess for Serana again.

This wasn't the first time.

Serana was slender and had long legs. She knew how to play weak in front of male wolves, making her quite popular among them.

Naturally, there were plenty of she-wolves who didn't like her.

Once, she'd been pushed into an ice lake, and Trey had jumped in without a second thought, rescuing her despite the cold.

Since then, whenever Serana got into trouble, he was always the first to show up.

The places where he couldn't appear, I had to handle.

After Danny Gardner, the Alpha of the Gronya pack, had made it known that he intended to take Serana back to the Gronya Pack, those who were already jealous of her had gotten worse.

They believed that just being seen by Danny, even if it was only for a moment, could earn them enormous benefits.

"Let go of your hands."

The leader of the group crossed her arms and sneered. "Danny likes you, right? Show us what exactly made him choose you, then."

"Please, don't do this. There are so many people watching…" Serana shrank back, her voice trembling.

"Stop pretending."

Another she-wolf laughed coldly. "If you were really clean, would Trey protect you, or Danny single you out?"

"Exactly. Stop playing the victim while you've got every wolf in the North wrapped around your finger."

Serana was forced to step back. Her back pressed against the balcony railing on the second floor.

Trey, unable to wait any longer, pushed me from behind and whispered urgently, "Leah, go."

I stumbled, nearly catching my heel on the edge of the steps.

But he didn't even glance at me. His whole focus was on Serana.

I forced a smile and made my way up to the second floor.

As soon as Serana saw me, she rushed behind me and said in a trembling voice, "Leah, help me."

I glanced at the she-wolves in front of me and spoke coldly. "Humiliating someone publicly at the auction center? Do you want to drag your entire pack down with you?"

The lead she-wolf was Kendra Wheeler from the Graywolf pack.

Raising an eyebrow, she smiled with a hidden meaning. "Leah, we're just trying to help you see her true colors."

"Yeah," the she-wolf next to her chimed in. "A few days ago, I saw Trey walking around the neutral zone with her. Don't you find that suspicious?"

Serana shook her head desperately, but her fingers gripped my arm tightly as she slowly moved toward the railing. "That's not true! Leah, don't listen to their nonsense!"

"Nonsense?" Kendra sneered. "Just yesterday, I—"

Before she could finish, Serana suddenly screamed and fell backward.

At the next moment, she flipped over the railing, plummeting to the first floor.

"Serana!"

Trey practically lunged to catch her, and the two of them went sprawling to the ground together.

Ignoring the scratches on his arm, he held her tightly as he repeatedly asked, "Where are you hurt? Talk to me!"

Shaken, Serana took several seconds before slowly raising her tear-streaked face to look at me. "Leah… why did you push me?"

Trey's gaze shot up, cold as ice. "Leah Stewart! I told you to go up to help her, not push her!"

It wasn't until this very moment that I finally understood why Serana had been pulling me back all along.

She had been planning to pin the blame on me from the start.

"She threw herself down," I said flatly.

Serana immediately lowered her head, her shoulders shaking, as if she didn't even dare to argue. "I-It was my fault. I lost my balance. It's not Leah's fault…"

When she said that, Trey's gaze at me turned to pure disgust.

"I saw everything clearly from down here. How long are you going to keep lying?"

With those final words, he ignored the collective gaze of the surrounding wolves and swept Serana into his arms before carrying her out of the auction center.

As I watched their retreating backs, I suddenly lost all desire to explain myself.

Trey had already decided on the answer in his mind anyway.

As I looked at Trey, I felt nothing but absurdity. "But the wolves of the Gram pack never got a chance to regret."With those words, I lifted Dad's bone whistle and slammed it heavily into the snow at his feet."From today on, you're no longer worthy to even speak my name. You'll live with these wounds and watch the Sawyer pack fall apart. Winterbrook is gone, your reputation is gone, and even the Alpha position you cherish so much will never be yours again."I lifted my front paw and stomped down hard on his spine, pressing him deeper into the snow.At that moment, a flood of images passed through my mind— the fire that consumed the Gram pack that night, Dad's dying roar, the 15 years I spent living like an outsider in the Sawyer pack, the shattered green crystal, and Trey's repeated lies that made me sick. Then, I bit through his throat.Trey's agonizing howl rang out in the snowy night but quickly faded into weakness.I didn't sever his throat completely.I wanted him alive,

I nodded and stepped into the snow outside the neutral zone. The cold wind rushed into my collar, like that night 15 years ago when the Gram pack fell.Trey stood not far away with his back straight, but there was no longer the towering arrogance that once radiated from him.I thought of Mom's trembling hands when she shoved me into the basement, of Dad's back standing in the doorway, and of the trust and love I had handed over to my enemies over the years. An apology couldn't erase that.Moonlight poured over the snow, like a layer of cold salt.He looked at me, his eyes clouded with exhaustion, shame, and a flash of belated pain."Leah." His voice was carried by the wind. "Must it come to this?"I didn't answer. What answered him was the soft snap of my bones as I stretched. The next second, I shifted into my wolf form in the snow.A collective gasp echoed from the sidelines.Even I froze for a moment. It had been years since I had shifted into my wolf form so smoothly.

The air in the stone house felt frozen, thick with tension.I bent down and picked up the letter. The paper was rough, its edges frayed, but the words on it were sharp. Each stroke of the pen felt like a blade thrusting into my chest.Trey finally snapped out of his daze and stepped forward urgently. "Leah, I only found out about this later!"His voice was hoarse. "My dad did those things! It wasn't me!""But you knew, and you still didn't tell me," I replied softly as I looked at him. "Trey, your greatest sin isn't what your father did. It's the fact that you knew I considered you my only family, and you still lied to me."I raised my head. My voice was soft but resolute as I said, "Go to the neutral zone and notify the Elders' Council."The room fell completely silent.Trey seemed to be struck dumb. He lunged at me. "Leah, you can't do this! If you bring the Elders' Council in, the Sawyer pack will be finished!"Danny moved swiftly, kicking him back against the wall."Finish

The next morning, Evan delivered his findings. It was a charred topographical map."It was found inside the stone house," he said quietly. "This is the guard map of the Gram pack."As I stared at the burned map, an unsettling feeling grew in my chest. At that exact moment, Trey appeared again. As he stepped into the front hall, the dark circles under his eyes were impossible to miss. It looked as though he hadn't slept a wink all night. The moment he saw the mark on my neck, his Adam's apple bobbed visibly."Leah, I need to speak with you alone.""That's not necessary," I replied without moving from my seat. "You can say it here."He seemed to be suppressing something as he pulled out an auction receipt and placed it on the table. "I wanted to buy the green diamond for you."I glanced at it briefly, and a sudden sense of irony washed over me. "So?""Leah, I know you're angry with me," he rasped. "But you should know that I never actually intended to let you go. I just—""You

As I followed Danny out the door, Trey was already surrounded by the Gronya pack's guards. It was clear that Danny wasn't happy about the interruption to his peaceful night. The anger in his eyes was barely contained. "Who gave you the nerve to invade my territory?"Trey's eyes were bloodshot as he fixed his gaze on the mark on my neck that was still faintly red. "Give Leah back to me."Before he could say another word, Danny stepped forward and grabbed him by the throat."You're the one who sent her to me last night. Now you come to take her back? Do you even deserve her?"Trey's face was turning blue, but he still looked at me. "Leah, come back with me. I can explain.""Explain what?" I walked down the steps, my voice icy. "Explain why you used my dad's bone whistle to force me to kneel? Or explain why you marked another she-wolf during my bonding ceremony?"Trey's lips moved, like he wanted to say something. But I didn't give him the chance."Haven't you told enough lies ye

  • Finally Done With the Lies   Chapter 4

As I left the auction center, a beautiful green diamond was just starting to be auctioned off.But I didn't care anymore. After all, my bonding ceremony had already been unilaterally canceled by Trey.Whether the veil had the main diamond or not didn't matter anymore. However, just as I left the auction center, Trey stopped me.He grabbed my wrist with such force that it felt like he was going to crush my bones. "Serana's hurt. You need to apologize to her."I jerked my arm free and met his cold gaze before speaking each word slowly. "I told you, I didn't push her. Why should I apologize?""I only believe what I see with my own eyes." Trey's voice was low and dark. "Leah, don't push me."With that, he pulled a grayish bone whistle from his chest. It was Dad's keepsake. After the Gram pack was destroyed, this bone whistle had been the last thing he left me.My heart sank. "You're going to use it to threaten me?""It's not a threat."Trey stared at me, his voice cold and har
