AUTUMN'S POV

I didn’t even see her coming – didn’t sense her, which is unlike me. I looked to my side and big amber eyes were looking my way, shining with what I could only pinpoint as excitement. She’s absolutely stunning with her long blonde hair, but I couldn’t understand where she’d come from.

Or why I felt so calm around her.

“Hey,” I replied hesitantly.

“I’m Amery,” she introduced.

“Ava,” I informed.

She beamed. “That’s a beautiful name.”

I shrugged. “Thanks.”

“You’re obviously new here since I know practically everyone. Have you made any friends yet?” she asked.

She seems like the kind of fireball I’d have to entertain or she wouldn’t leave.

“Uh, no, I haven’t,” I responded.

“Perfect! Let’s go,” she said.

I didn’t even have the chance to protest since by the time I looked up, she was already walking away. Like I said, she looks like the kind I have to entertain, so I thought better than having her pester me, I just do what she wants for the moment.

I eventually caught up with her and she was walking towards a big group of people. They looked like they belonged to the one side that I’d picked up on – the side that looked too good to be true.

What I mean is that in life, you get some good-looking people, and these people were all good looking. There was also an air of cockiness about them. It was almost as though they thought of themselves as better than anyone else.

I’ve learned to generally avoid such people in my life.

The closer we got, the more confused they looked. Even their conversations died down as everyone watched me walk towards them – you know, because that’s not creepy or anything. I passed by one guy and I could’ve sworn I heard him growl.

“Did you just growl at me?” I asked him.

There was dead silence as everyone looked at me in disbelief. “You heard that?”

Now I was unsure of myself. “Was I not supposed to?”

“Hey guys! This is my friend Ava. Ava, these are my friends Kayden, Sasha, Olivia, Holden, Winnie, Jordan, and my boyfriend Hudson,” Amery diverted.

“Babe, did you go and bother Ava even after we said you shouldn’t?” Hudson asked her.

She shrugged. “She looked like she needed a friend.”

“Which part of me looked like it needed a friend?” I questioned curiously.

She looked taken aback by my question while Winnie giggled. “You don’t want any friends?”

“The ruling is still out on that, but I wasn’t exactly sending any vibes into the universe. I’m just curious about what you saw from me that just screamed ‘she needs friends’,” I responded.

Jordan chuckled. “I like you already.”

“Can I go now?” I asked them.

“If you want to. We’re not going to keep you hostage, but you’re welcome to hang out with us at any time,” Hudson offered, beating his girlfriend to whatever she was about to say.

“Thanks,” I replied, turning to leave.

I passed by the guy who growled at me and he did it again. “I dare you to growl at me again.”

This time, shock was evident on everyone’s faces as the guy pulled a menacing look. “And what will you do about it human?”

Human?

“Because calling me a human when you’re clearly one too is not weird at all,” I commented.

He growled, this time louder and definitely more animalistic. “I am not a human.”

His friend smacked him upside the head for that and he growled again. “You can’t go around saying stuff like that idiot.”

“Yeah idiot, you should probably listen to your friend,” I added.

I saw his hand move and caught it before he could cause any kind of damage. “Wow, you were really about to hit a girl!”

“You really shouldn’t have done that Fenix.”

I turned to find two guys standing behind me. The one who had just spoken was dressed in blue jeans and a green t-shirt. He has longish blonde hair and blue eyes, with a tight looking jaw and a built body.

And that’s when my eyes travelled to the sinfully attractive specimen next to him.

He was slightly taller than him, and definitely more built. He was dressed in all black, and I could feel myself being drawn to him in the strangest of ways. My eyes travelled up to his light brown hair, and then down to his black eyes.

Wait, black eyes?

“Cas, calm down,” Amery said lowly.

‘Cas’ only growled, and it did the oddest thing to my insides.

“Uh, Jasper, a little help?” Hudson told the other guy.

Jasper shrugged. “They’ve locked me out. Only she can stop him.”

“She who?” I found myself questioning.

Jasper looked straight at me. “You – only you can stop my best friend from killing Fenix over there.”

“Why the fuck would he kill me over a stupid human?” Fenix asked.

Wrong move apparently.

Cas moved at a speed I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t have been able to see, and he was behind me strangling Fenix. “Because Fenix, that human over there is his mate.”

His what now?

“Yeah no. We know you didn’t like school much Jasper, but we can’t mate with humans,” Olivia stated.

What are these people high on?

“You see, I’d believe those words if Fenix wasn’t seconds from death at the hands of Cas. Why else would Cas want to kill him for almost hitting a human?” Jasper reasoned, I guess.

I took in his words and looked over to find that Fenix was indeed seconds from death as the veins decorated his already blue face. “Hey, let him go. He didn’t hurt me.”

Not that my words made any much of a difference as Cas just squeezed even tighter.

Fenix was fighting desperately for his life, and I couldn’t fathom how someone could be as strong as Cas. “He’s going to kill him.”

“You have to kiss him,” Jasper told me.

“Psycho calm person say what now?” I retorted.

“You have to distract him somehow,” he elaborated.

“Yeah, I’m not about to kiss some stranger,” I said.

“You have to do something Ava. Fenix doesn’t have time!” Holden exclaimed.

I was wondering how he’d managed to fight this long to begin with, but Holden was right. He wasn’t even fighting anymore. I had to go against everything in me and reach out to hug Cas from behind.

I could feel the shift in his body, and from the thud that followed, I could only imagine that he’d dropped Fenix. He didn’t move for the longest time, and I was puzzled by the electrifying feeling travelling through me.

Could he feel it too?

Before I knew it, he was gone and I was left with a visibly baffled group of people. Hell, I couldn’t blame them. I didn’t even know what the hell was going on either, and we all turned to Jasper.

“What were you guys even doing here anyway?” Amery asked him.

“We were passing by to talk to Grey, and I guess he must’ve caught Ava’s scent. I followed him here,” Jasper informed.

“Well, you need to find him. Who knows what damage he’s out there causing?” Kayden asked.

“I know my own best friend, thank you very much. He’s not going to cause any damage. He’s probably going to head down to the lake. Anyway, see you all tonight for the pack meeting,” Jasper said before he too was gone before I could blink.

AUTUMN'S POV“No one said anything,” Caspian said, looking confused.“Oh, she’s responding to my link,” I told him.“You guys can link?” the guys asked.“What do you mean destined to be ours for life?” Jasmine asked me.“Are we not supposed to be able to?” I asked the guys.“You linking with Cas makes sense because you’re mates, but you shouldn’t really be able to link with anyone else,” Jasper replied.“Unless it’s because of the bond she has with Jasmine,” Caspian added.Jasmine tapped me. “Excuse me lady. I asked you a question.”“Oh, right! Jasper over there is your mate,” I informed. She scowled while my boyfriend chose to hide his laugh with a cough. “Real subtle babe.”I glared at him while Jasper was eyeing me like I’m insane. “You’re so random.”“Thank you?” I said unsurely.“Oh, he is so right! You suck at breaking news to people. What the hell is a mate? Is it like a soulmate?” Jasmine asked.“That’s right. I will apologize on behalf of my own mate for her lack of decorum.

AUTUMN'S POV“Ahem!”They jumped apart, making Caspian laugh. “We weren’t doing anything!”“Not that your statement helps you, but I never actually said you did anything,” I pointed out.She glared at me as she moved away from him. “I assume your date went well?”“Apparently so did yours,” I teased. She went red in the face while Jasper chuckled, outstretching his hand. “We haven’t met officially. I’m Jasper, Caspian’s best friend.”“Ava,” I replied, shaking his hand.“You really moved her in,” Caspian commented, looking around the room. They had done a magnificent job, no doubt with Jas in charge. There wasn’t a single box in sight, and my place actually looked like a home. A strange feeling settled in my stomach at the thought that it possibly wouldn’t be my place forever.“It’s not like this one was going to do it,” Jas jabbed.Hand to chest, I mock gasped. “Ah gee, feeling the love.”She giggled, sitting on the one couch. “So, where did you lovely kids go?”I sat on the other couc

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 12 - The Truth Unravelling

CASPIAN'S POVThe laugh I was holding escaped. “Imagine being so boring, but what does that have to do with anything?”She smacked my arm. “Vanilla ice-cream is the only one that matters, and I’m only mentioning it because I think I’ve received enough information to make my brain melt. We can get back to the normal part of the date now.”I was grateful for our isolation simply because I couldn’t recall laughing as much as I did in that moment. I rarely laugh in front of other people, and it wasn’t hard to tell that Autumn was pleased to see me doing so.She opened the basket and laid out the food while I connected my phone to the speaker I’d brought along. I put on some soft music and poured us some drinks as we fell into a light conversation revolving around our likes and dislikes. It wasn’t all that hard to figure out that she’d had enough of the heavy stuff.Despite not knowing much about her past or where she was before coming here, or what brought her here to begin with, I was gl

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 11 - It's Not Your Fault

CASPIAN'S POVShe frowned at that. “You said werewolves can’t mate with humans. Which creatures can they mate with, if other supernatural creatures exist as well?”I smiled at that. “We’ll talk about other supernatural creatures another time, but as far as werewolf matings go, the rarity of cross matings means that we don’t really have enough information to go on. We know more about cross matings between other creatures.”“Which werewolf cross matings have you heard of?” she asked.“Two where it was werewolves and witches, one where it was a werewolf and a vampire, and one where it was a werewolf and a faery,” I listed. She looked thoughtful. “So, I could be either one of those?”I nodded. “Where did you grow up?”“Around humans, that’s for sure,” she replied vaguely.“Or, you probably didn’t know that they were supernatural,” I offered.“Doubt it,” she murmured. She was shutting down, and I had to stop her. “Do you have any other questions?”“Why did you almost kill Fenix?” she shot

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 10 - Werewolves Are Real

CASPIAN'S POVShe wasn’t saying anything. She wasn’t screaming. She wasn’t panicking (if her steady heartbeat was anything to go by).She wasn’t even crying. She was just still. And I found that I was the one who was panicking.“Uh Cas, we have a problem,” Jasper linked me.“What is it?” I replied.“I found Jasmine like you instructed, and well, she’s my mate.”“I thought so,” Hades said.He and I had a suspicion the moment we lay eyes on Jasmine. My father had told me that Emily Greenwich had requested that her daughter come and live with her. When she opened the door, her scent reeked of werewolf, but it also didn’t quite seem like it’s a normal werewolf scent.“Her scent is weird though,” Jasper commented.“I picked up on that too and I have a feeling it has to do with Ava. Just watch over her for now. I’ve just revealed myself to Ava and she’s frozen,” I informed, my eyes still stuck on my mate.“So early? And she didn’t pass out or anything?” he asked.“Not yet, but I’m waiting f

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 9 - Caspian Cage

AUTUMN'S POVHe laughed at that, lacing our fingers while I fought off the butterflies. “There’s nothing little about trust in a relationship, but I agree with getting on with our date.”“Relationship?” I teased.“I don’t date for fun, even if this is only my second relationship ever, so yes, relationship,” he commented.“I’m supposed to believe that this is only your second attempt at a relationship?” I asked. He shrugged. “It is, and you’ll understand why once you get to learn more about me.”“And what was the reason you dated the first-time round?” I asked. He looked me straight in the eyes. “I thought she was the one, but I was wrong.”I don’t know why those words unsettled me. “And you think I’m the one?”He grinned, wrapping an arm around my waist. I was suddenly aware of him, aware of everything about him – his muscles, his scent, his warmth, his messy but casual hair, his breath-taking eyes, the small mole under his eye, his charming smile.Everything.He leaned down to my ear
