Ch 3 - I Don't Want to Know

AUTUMN'S POV

“What the hell just happened?” I asked. Fenix was still coughing violently as his friends got him some water.

“Which part are you asking about exactly?” Jordan asked.

Olivia smacked him upside the head. “Don’t you think she’s curious about all of it?”

The bell knocked my senses back in. “You know what? On second thought, I don’t want to know. I don’t want any part of this, whatever it is.”

“Ava, wait!” Amery shouted after me, but I wasn’t stopping.

Not for her or for any of this.

For the remainder of the day, I tried to concentrate on my classes. I only noticed then that I had some of my classes with the people I’d been introduced to, and I did my best to ignore them.

By the last bell, I was ready to get the hell out of there and just be back in my room. With my books changed, I headed to my bike. I was well aware of the fact that I was being watched, except I didn’t care enough to find out who was watching me.

I made it to my house and parked the bike beside my car before heading inside. There were boxes everywhere as I’d only been here for a day. I’d only managed to get around to packing and setting up my room.

Which meant I had no food either.

With an annoyed murmur to myself, I changed into a pair of sweats and a tank top before I got to unpacking some of the boxes. I figured I could tackle the kitchen and the lounge and work my way from there.

It was a relatively quick process for me since I have a secret. I don’t know how or why, but I have an abnormal strength and supernatural speed. I move at an unnatural speed if I want to, I can carry things three times my weight with no effort, and I can hear and see things at a distance.

Like how I saw the black wolf in the morning.

My mind travelled back to when I saw it being attacked. I mean, I went to help it, or at least that’s what I think – except I was shot, so if it were true, I would have a wound on my stomach.

Right?

I lifted my tank top to check my stomach again, and there was nothing – not even a wound to suggest that there was ever anything there. I brushed my cold fingers across my skin for some kind of reassurance, but nothing.

There was absolutely nothing there.

I jumped when there was a knock at my door, and I was confused since no one knows that I live here. I went over to answer the door, and on the other side stood a girl around my age with long black hair and the most striking blue eyes. She had a pie in her hands.

“Hey! Sorry to bother you, but my mom wouldn’t leave me in peace and suggested that I come over to give our new neighbour this pie. I think she saw that you’re probably around my age and I think she secretly wants me to make new friends. I’m Jasmine by the way,” she rambled.

I laughed a little. “Hey Jas. I’m Ava. It’s nice to meet you.”

“Oh, thank God! I thought you were about to be mean to me,” she stated.

I raised an eyebrow. “Do I look like the type?”

“Well no, that’s not what I’m saying. I just, I can come across as too much when you first meet me,” she argued.

“I’ve known you for less than two minutes,” I pointed out.

“Touché! I’m Jasmine,” she reintroduced.

“You’ve already told me that,” I laughed.

She frowned. “I have, haven’t I? And you’re Ava.”

I nodded. “You’ve got it.”

“Sorry! I haven’t been here for all that long and it’s just weird,” she said.

“Come in and let’s have some of that pie while you tell me about the weirdness,” I suggested.

She smiled. “Thanks! I’d really like that.”

I’d thankfully just unpacked some plates and the cutlery, so we were able to sit on the couch with our pieces of pie. “So, the weirdness?”

“Uh yeah! My parents divorced when I was eight, and I’ve lived with my dad this whole time, except apparently, he and my mom made some deal. They agreed that I’d live with my mom after high school, and well, here I am in this strange place. I mean, I’ve been here a couple of times, but not long enough to say that I know the place or make any friends for that matter,” she explained.

“Well, I could be your friend. I’ve only been here for a day, and school was interesting to say the least. You look like just the kind of person I need to get through this, so it’s a win-win for us,” I offered.

She beamed before scowling. “What do you mean school was interesting? What happened?”

I told her because I figured it would be better to tell someone, than to have the thoughts drown me at night. “I’m so confused.”

“Tell me about it! I wanted answers, but then I figured whatever they were going to tell me was going to sound insane, so I decided I didn’t want to know after all,” I said.

“I think I can get that. What do you think they meant with them referring to you as a human?” she asked.

“I don’t even want to think about the possibility of anything supernatural. I moved here for a quiet life. Looking further into this just sounds like unwanted drama,” I replied.

“You mean you don’t want to know about your intense connection with the sinfully hot guy? What did you say his name was again? Cas?” she teased.

I rolled my eyes, smiling. “He almost killed someone and the people around us didn’t even flinch Jas. The whole thing was just too weird.”

“You said they were basically panicking,” she reminded.

I scowled. “True, but they also weren’t helping get him off of Fenix. They wanted the mere human to do it.”

“I get that, really, I do, but there’s more to this. Even you have to admit that much. Aren’t you the least bit curious?” she questioned.

“I like my life drama free Jas and I’m telling you that that whole group of whatever it is they are, is just drama filled. I’m safe in my little bubble.”

And I would fight to make sure things stay that way.

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 35 - They Want Her Head

CASPIAN'S POVJasper, Hudson, and I were still holed up in our secret spot as we looked through the information we had already gathered up until this point. Hudson had done a fantastic job of categorizing everything.Everything pre meeting Autumn that is.“We’re not going to be able to hide all of this for long, not with Fenix also making things difficult for us,” Jasper pointed out.I nodded. “From what Ava said, he’s linked to Valentia and they’re sort of shutting her out. She’s the one who keeps fighting him.”“What do you mean she’s the one who keeps fighting him? Have they fought before the arena?” Hudson questioned.I nodded once more. “Apparently it happened earlier at the school, when Valentia made herself known.”“So, she’s only popped up today? Any clue as to what triggered her appearance?” Jasper asked.“I’m going to go with finding out that werewolves are real, and being exposed to her mate,” I guessed.“Or she’s always been there,” Hudson argued.I raised an eyebrow. “How

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 34 - Sold Out By a Hungry Stomach

AUTUMN'S POVBoth Valentia and Dakota jumped into the conversation. “We can?”“Well, Val can make it happen,” Dakota clarified.“Explain away,” I told her. The link was open between the four of us.She scoffed before getting into it. “I can make you invisble and hide your scents.”“What?” the three of us, Dakota included, shouted.“You heard me,” she replied.“Wait, how?” Jasmine asked.“One of my powers,” Valentia replied.“Girl, just how powerful are you?” I asked her.“Powerful enough,” was the vague response I received. She wasn’t about to give anything away.“That’s insane!” Jasmine exclaimed, and I couldn’t agree more.“Ok, if we’re leaving, where are we going exactly?” Dakota enquired.“We need to know if Caspian’s dad has any business with Reyes,” I replied.“Who’s Reyes?” Jasmine and Dakota asked.I sighed. “Reyes is my ex and the person I’m running away from. He’s also the leader of the gang.”“Huh, interesting. So, what does finding out if they’re in business mean? Are we g

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 33 - Bows and Arrows Can Kill People

AUTUMN'S POV“I have no idea,” I admitted. She pulled me back into the house, locking the door. “We need to start from the beginning.”“What do you mean by beginning?” I asked. She looked dead serious as she sat in position. “So, you don’t remember your life before you were thirteen. I’m guessing this means you don’t know who your parents are?”I nodded, and she continued. “No other family? You have no relation to the Dixons at all?”I nodded once more. “That means the only thing we know about your life from before your amnesia, is that you crossed paths with someone by the name Elios, and this man is apparently missing, which means you crossed paths with him wherever he disappeared to.”I caught onto what she was saying. “You think finding answers about my past starts with finding Elios?”She nodded. “Amongst other things. The only problem is that there’s no way the boys will let us go on this side mission alone.”“Not if we convince them that it’s the only way,” I argued. She shook

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 32 - Million Dollar Question

AUTUMN'S POV“It didn’t take you long to have us in some mess.”I smacked her as she laughed. “This isn’t my fault!”“Nothing is ever your fault,” she taunted.“Shut up Jasmine,” I mumbled. It was just the two of us left behind, and I hadn’t really noticed the silence until then. I knew my house was right at the end of the street, but it hadn’t registered to me just how isolated it was, until it was pointed out by Hudson. And now it was all I could think about.“What’s on your mind?” she probed.I sighed. “Today has been a lot, Jazzy. I found out new things, and I’m questioning so much.”She raised an eyebrow at me. “Like the mysterious thing you can’t remember?”I looked anywhere but at her. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”“You know, I could’ve sworn Caspian and Jasper said that my life’s purpose is to be by your side. We’re in this together Avvy. I’m the one person who you shouldn’t have to hide from,” she argued.I hated that she was right. This time I looked right at her

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 31 - Deception is What They're Good At

CASPIAN'S POVHades was practically throwing a party in my head as I pulled away from Autumn. “What was that?”“I think Valentia got through whatever’s blocking her a little. You might be feeling Hades’ joy,” I replied. She let out a cute giggle. “I swear Hades surprises me.”Still feeling his delight, I chuckled. “That makes both of us.”“Go. You’ll check in with me later,” she said, pushing me towards the door.I laughed before stopping to look at her. “You’ll link me if anything happens, right?”“You know it.”After one last kiss, I headed out, leaving her with Jasmine. Amery had left with Hudson, but I could imagine he was dropping her off at the pack house. It was obvious that the three of us needed to meet first before seeing our fathers.I arrived at our spot to find Jasper already there, confirming my theory. “He said he’ll meet us here after dropping her off.”I nodded. “I figured.”“How are you feeling?” he checked.I sighed, rubbing my face with my hands. “Honestly? I don’t

  • Finding Autumn Cross   Ch 30 - I Can Feel Her

CASPIAN'S POVThat seemed to be the only thing we could agree on, all silently agreeing to put a pause on anything else that was being discussed. The afternoon had proven to be unexpected on many levels.I thought the most I would get out of it was a cute date with my mate.We all agreed to first head back to Autumn’s place to drop her and the girls off before heading back to the pack house. I had been so focused on the afternoon’s events that I had truly not noticed that my father was trying to reach me.“Are we ok?”The soft question caught me off guard, breaking off my thoughts. “We’re ok. I just have more questions than I had when I woke up.”“You can imagine me,” she mumbled, looking outside the window.I sighed, grabbing her hand in mine. “I believe you.”“I think you want to believe me,” she instead said, turning back to face me.“She can read you better than you think,” Hades commented.“It’s an information overload and I haven’t had a chance to take it all in,” I admitted.“D
