Chapter Forty-Five

October arrived faster than anyone expected.

The houses were almost finished.

The furniture was in place.

The walls were painted.

The gardens were taking shape.

And most importantly—

it was scan day.

Twenty weeks.

Halfway.

Neither Daisy nor Harper could quite believe it.

The hospital waiting room was familiar now.

The same four adults.

The same nervous energy.

The same support system.

Only this time there was one major difference.

Nobody wanted to know the genders.

Not today.

Not yet.

A decision that had nearly driven Noah insane.

"You really don't want to know?"

"No."

Harper didn't even look up from her magazine.

Noah frowned.

"But they're right there."

"Still no."

Roman laughed.

The poor man had asked the question at least twenty times.

Roman wasn't much better.

He sat beside Daisy looking far too interested in the ultrasound rooms.

"You know we could find out."

Daisy immediately pointed at him.

"Don't start."

"What?"

"You've been trying all week."

Roman looked offended.

"I have not."

"You absolutely have."

He absolutely had.

The plan had been agreed weeks ago.

No finding out.

No accidental hints.

No guessing.

Everything would stay secret.

Then they'd have one big gender reveal party.

Together.

One celebration.

Three babies.

One very excited family.

Eventually Daisy's name was called first.

Roman stood immediately.

As always.

Daisy laughed.

"You know you're not the patient."

"I know."

"Yet you're standing."

"I'm supportive."

The sonographer laughed.

Daisy rolled her eyes.

Then followed Roman inside.

The scan room became quiet.

The familiar nerves returning.

No matter how many scans they attended.

No matter how healthy everything looked.

There was always that moment.

That tiny moment of worry.

The screen flickered to life.

And there was their baby.

Bigger now.

Much bigger.

Moving constantly.

Roman squeezed Daisy's hand.

The sonographer smiled.

"Everything looks wonderful."

The relief hit immediately.

As always.

The heartbeat.

The tiny fingers.

The little feet.

Everything perfect.

Everything healthy.

Then the sonographer smiled knowingly.

"I'll just avoid that area."

Roman laughed.

Daisy laughed.

The baby had apparently decided to make the secret very obvious.

"We don't want to know."

"I know."

The woman smiled.

"I've already made a note."

Daisy relaxed.

Good.

Because she genuinely wanted the surprise.

For once in her life she wanted something magical.

Something unexpected.

Outside the room Noah and Harper waited.

Impatiently.

The second Daisy emerged smiling, everyone relaxed.

"Everything okay?"

Daisy nodded.

"Perfect."

Harper immediately hugged her.

Relief flooding her face.

Then it was their turn.

Noah looked significantly more nervous than before.

The twins had changed things.

Two babies.

Two heartbeats.

Two tiny lives.

Twice the worry.

Twice the love.

Twice the panic.

Twenty minutes later the scan was underway.

The babies were both active.

Very active.

One seemed determined to kick continuously.

The other appeared to be sleeping through everything.

The sonographer laughed.

"They already have different personalities."

Harper smiled.

Noah looked emotional.

Again.

The man had become emotional about everything recently.

The sonographer checked measurements.

Growth.

Heartbeats.

Everything.

Then smiled.

"Both babies look fantastic."

Harper immediately relaxed.

Noah looked like he'd been given oxygen.

The relief was obvious.

A few moments later the sonographer froze the image briefly.

Then looked at the screen.

Then at Harper and Noah.

Then smiled.

"Do you still want the genders sealed?"

"Yes."

The answer came simultaneously.

The sonographer laughed.

"Good."

Because apparently the twins had made identifying themselves incredibly easy.

An hour later all four adults sat in a nearby café.

Scan photos spread across the table.

Coffee for the men.

Hot chocolate for Harper.

Tea for Daisy.

The babies were healthy.

Growing.

Perfect.

That was all that mattered.

"So."

Noah leaned forward.

"When are we doing this?"

"The reveal?"

Harper nodded.

Roman immediately became interested.

Dangerous.

Very dangerous.

"A big party."

Daisy narrowed her eyes.

Roman smiled.

"A really big party."

"No."

"A medium-sized party."

"Roman."

"A tasteful party."

Noah laughed.

"We're all doomed."

The discussion quickly spiraled.

Guest lists.

Decorations.

Food.

Themes.

Cake colours.

Balloons.

Three babies.

One reveal.

And somehow it was becoming bigger by the minute.

That evening, back at the townhouse, Daisy stood in the garden watching Lillie crawl through the grass.

The autumn air was crisp.

The trees were beginning to turn golden.

Inside, Roman was already researching gender reveal ideas.

Which was honestly terrifying.

Daisy smiled to herself.

Because life felt good.

The babies were healthy.

The houses were nearly ready.

Their future was taking shape.

And somewhere in sealed envelopes sat the answers everyone wanted to know.

Three little secrets.

Waiting for the perfect moment to be revealed. ❤️📖
