Chapter 3

Author: See An
The anger on Aiden’s face had completely vanished. In its place was a look of gentle sympathy as he gazed at me.

"Raising a kid on your own must’ve been hard, huh?"

I pulled Faelan behind me protectively, my eyes sharp with caution. "No. He’s not your son, and I’m not a single mother."

Unfortunately, Aiden didn’t hear a word I said. He just frowned and scolded me, completely convinced he knew the truth.

"You walked away pregnant back then. Life must’ve been brutal, right? Our child… he’s already over four years old, and look at him! Why is he so weak? Wren, you’re just too damn stubborn! You’d rather suffer out there than lower your head and come back to me!"

I stared at Aiden, momentarily speechless.

Faelan was only three. In fact, because of the excellent care he’d received, he was taller than most kids his age. How in the world did he think Faelan looked like a four-year-old?

"You’re wrong. My son is three. And this—any of this—has nothing to do with you. Now get out of the way and let us through."

My repeated rejection made Aiden seethe. His jaw clenched so tight I could hear his teeth grinding.

"Wren, you’ve got a lot of nerve now. I swear, the poorer someone is, the more attitude they have! If you walk away now, don’t blame me for refusing to acknowledge that kid again."

He yanked Janine into his arms and held her tightly. "From now on, the only child I recognize is the one Janine gave me. I’m done with all the other mutts!"

Janine’s eyes lit up at those words. She gave a shy little nod and added sweetly, "Aiden, our Rowan will never bring you shame."

I didn’t even look at them. Just took Faelan’s hand and walked away. Once I stepped out of the restaurant and into the fresh air, the pressure in my chest finally eased.

Five years ago, when I found out I was pregnant, I was so thrilled. I was ready to register as mates with Aiden.

Sadly, the moment I stepped into the city hall, he shoved me out.

"Janine’s pregnant," he’d said. "She doesn’t have any other family in the pack. If she doesn’t register with someone, the elders will exile her. Let her have the baby first. After that, I’ll dissolve the bond with her and mark you."

However, Aiden knew that I was pregnant and had no family either. Without a mate, I would’ve been exiled from the Silverglade Pack just the same.

Devastated, I stumbled away from the city hall and was hit by a car just outside. I was thrown several feet, and lost a dangerous amount of blood and the baby. Before the emergency surgery, I called Aiden over and over. Not once did he pick up.

It wasn’t until I saw Janine update her social media that I realized he was too busy celebrating their mating ceremony.

That was the day I gave up for good. I filed to leave the Silverglade Pack, booked a plane, and disappeared.

Later, I met Nolan Crane, Alpha of the Black Rose Pack. The first time he saw me, he said I was his fated mate. He pursued me relentlessly for six months until his sincerity finally won me over.

He gave me the grandest, most beautiful mating ceremony I could have imagined. The entire pack celebrated with cheers and blessings. For the first time, I felt what it meant to be cherished and to be someone’s only one.

Seven months later, I gave birth to Faelan, premature but healthy. Nolan pampered us both endlessly. Faelan and I were his entire world.

Just recently, I found out I was pregnant again.

Around the same time, the Silverglade Pack requested negotiations for a territory merge. Nolan insisted on coming himself and absolutely refused to leave me behind. If not for that, I never would’ve set foot in Silverglade territory again. I definitely never would’ve crossed paths with Aiden either.

Those who had wronged me were all met with terrifying retribution.Every person in that pack hall who had sneered, scoffed, or looked away when I was suffering was punished. Each one had a silver blade pressed deep into their arm, leaving hideous scars that refused to heal. The lingering silver poison made sure they felt pain with every heartbeat, every moment of every day.As for Janine and Aiden, their fates were far worse.Nolan didn’t even need to take action. Horace himself destroyed their wolves with his own hands and banished both from the Silverglade Pack.At first, Horace had wanted to decapitate them and send t

  • Five Years of Silence   Chapter 8

Horace was dying of regret. How could he have been so blind to choose such a reckless fool as his pack’s top warrior? Not only had Aiden offended the Luna of Black Rose Pack, but he’d dared to lead the charge in humiliating her. Now, Horace had learned the worst part of all: Aiden had abandoned her five years ago. That was when Horace realized that his entire pack might be finished. All he could do now was sever ties with the idiot as fast as possible and pray that Alpha Nolan would be magnanimous enough not to punish them all for one man’s sins.Alas, Aiden was too far gone. Jealousy had rotted away whatever reason he had left. The only thing looping in his mind was the obsession to drag me back.He ignored the pressure from two Alphas bearing down on him and shouted at the top of his lungs, "I’m telling the truth! Wren left me five years ago, and she was already pregnant! That pup over there? He’s mine! The timeline fits perfectly! What, do you all think I’m blind?"His voice ro

Nolan didn’t say a word. His first move was to call for the doctors.A medical team rushed in and immediately performed a full examination.Even Horace Greystone, Alpha of Silverglade Pack, squeezed into the room. When he heard I was pregnant, his face went completely ashen."Don’t worry," the doctor finally said, wiping sweat from his brow. "The mother and baby are both stable. She’s just suffering from shock and silver poisoning. Once we cleanse the toxin and treat the wound, there’ll be no harm to either of them."Only then did the doctor carefully begin dressing my arm.Seeing that I was alright, Nolan’s expression finally softened, just slightly. He rose to his feet, scanning every face in the room. Then, slowly, deliberately, he asked, "She just said my mate once begged someone for affection. Tell me, who was that supposed to be?"Every pair of eyes shifted instinctively toward Aiden. The weight of Nolan’s presence was crushing, and Aiden felt it like a mountain on his ch

The entire pack hall fell instantly silent. The doors burst open with a bang, and Nolan stormed in, the full weight of the Silverglade Pack’s leadership trailing nervously behind him.The moment he threw me a heartbeat's glance, Janine, who was still holding the knife aloft, was flung violently across the hall by an invisible force. She smashed through three support pillars and landed embedded deep in the far wall.Despite being Silverglade’s top warrior, Aiden had already collapsed into a trembling heap on the floor. Faelan, who was finally free, leapt up and ran to Nolan, sobbing as he threw himself into his father’s arms."Daddy! They were bullying Mommy and me! You have to make them pay!"Nolan wrapped his arms protectively around our son, then crouched slowly in front of me. His voice was calm—too calm—the quiet before a coming storm."How many fools," he said, inspecting my wounds, "thought they could lay hands on you?"My throat tightened as I looked up at him. The cold m

"She snuck in? Gods, this is the joint feast for the territory merger, and someone’s trying to cause trouble?""Who brought her? Get her out of here!"More and more people gathered around, and Faelan hid deeper in my arms in terror."Mommy, I’m scared… they’re so mean. Especially that lady, she looks like she wants to eat me!" He pointed a trembling finger at Janine, then quickly retracted it.A staff member walked up and pointed at me, asking Aiden, "Mr. Monroe, is this your guest?"Aiden’s face tensed when I refused to even look at him. He gave a cold little smirk and told the staffer, "No. I don’t know her."Janine’s smugness grew. She lifted her chin high and said to the server, "Throw her out before she disturbs our honored guests."I stared straight at her, and then, suddenly, I laughed. "You sure you want to throw me out?"Janine flinched under the force of my voice but only for a second. Her face twisted with rage, and she shoved me hard. "Stop pretending. Who do you th

Back home, I’d planned to scold Faelan properly, but the moment he looked up and pouted at me, all my anger melted."No more ditching the bodyguards, okay? Your safety comes first. Your dad is busy with the Silverglade Pack’s Alpha these next few days, so he won’t be back until the treaty’s signed. Don’t make Mommy worry, alright?"Faelan nodded sweetly, then snuck in another plea while snuggling up to me. "Then, wherever Mommy goes, bring me too, okay? I promise I’ll be super good!"My heart turned to mush. I scooped him up and kissed him twice, hard."Okay. Mommy promises—you’ll go wherever I go."—Three days later, the Alpha of Silverglade Pack, Horace Greystone, threw our family a grand welcome feast.Silverglade was a small, subordinate pack to Black Rose. Horace had spent heavily, offering us rare pelts and riches, to trade for even a modest piece of land from Black Rose. This land merger meant everything to them. They even stationed a formal welcoming party outside the p
