Chapter 1

Chester's POV

Nevaeh Charlton and I had grown up together. Our families were of the same social status, and everyone said we were the perfect childhood sweethearts.

That was, until senior year.

A transfer student named Edward Rogers showed up in our class. He carried himself with effortless grace, distant and untouchable, like he did not belong to the same world as the rest of us. Nevaeh fell for him almost instantly.

Three months later, she finally said it.

"Chester, let's call off the engagement. I like Edward. I only want to be with him."

I could not accept it, and I made a scene so big that everyone found out about it.

The fallout was brutal.

Nevaeh was locked up at home under strict watch. As for Edward, my family pulled some strings and had him transferred to a better school in another city.

A month later, Edward took his own life after being unable to endure the bullying at school.

When Nevaeh heard the news, something inside her seemed to die along with him.

She stopped talking and refused to eat.

Out of both love and guilt, I dropped everything to stay by her side. Every day, I spoke to her in soft, careful words. I fed her bite by bite, begging her to keep living.

Two months later, after planning everything down to the smallest detail, I took her to the snowy mountains she had always dreamed of visiting.

When the first ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and lit up the entire snowy peak, golden light poured over everything. It reflected in her hollow eyes, as if something inside them was finally waking up.

Slowly, Nevaeh turned to look at me.

For the first time in what felt like forever, her lips curved into a gentle smile.

"Chester, thank you. For everything."

In that moment, I thought I had pulled her out of the darkness. I thought I had found the love of my life again.

We later got married, just like everyone expected. We had a son and a daughter, both bright and full of life.

However, when they turned ten, everything fell apart.

I became seriously ill and eventually was paralyzed, unable to even turn over in bed on my own.

That same day, Nevaeh walked into the house holding Edward's hand.

Edward was supposed to be dead. I never imagined he was still alive.

What shattered me even more was what happened next. My children ran straight into his arms, laughing, calling out, “Dad!" in clear, happy voices.

I trembled all over, too stunned to speak.

Nevaeh looked down at me from where she stood, her gaze colder than ice.

"You never had children of your own," she said. "Our so-called children are actually Edward's and mine. You were just their nanny for all these years.

"You destroyed our lives. Your family used their power to push Edward into a corner with no way out. I married you and endured you for years, waiting for this day to finally come."

She took a deep breath, then delivered her verdict with a chilling calm.

"You won't be alone for long. Your parents will be joining you very soon. Everyone who tore Edward and me apart will pay. Not a single one of you will escape!"

After I died, she did exactly what she said.

She used every trick she had to send both my parents and hers to prison. One by one, they died in convenient ‘accidents’.

After some time, I opened my eyes again.

I had been sent back to the day she told me she loved Edward.

Yoana and I settled down in a quiet coastal city.I was hired as an international news consultant for a well-known media company, while Yoana opened her own private clinic. We decided to get married. The wedding was small, with only our closest family and a few friends who had stood with us through life and death in attendance. We held it on a seaside island. That day, the sun was bright, and the ocean breeze was gentle. Yoana wore a simple white satin dress, her hair loosely pinned up.When she looked at me, the warmth and certainty in her eyes said more than any words ever could. There was no complicated ceremony. In front of the people who mattered most to us, we exchanged simple vows.Just as the officiant declared us married, I lowered my head, about to kiss Yoana. From outside the courtyard, there was a sudden commotion.A hoarse, frantic voice cut through the air."Chester, you're getting married? How could you marry someone else?!"Every head turned.I saw the figur

Chester's POVAfter that day, Nevaeh really did disappear from my life.I heard she was quickly taken back home by her family. I never asked what happened after that, and I did not care to know.My life became filled with things far bigger and more meaningful than our past relationship.I became a war correspondent, just like I had once decided for myself. After graduating with top grades, I volunteered to go to places filled with smoke, gunfire, and grief. On the shattered streets of Syrenia, I walked alongside civilians fleeing in panic. In the dry mountain winds of Afgoran, I recorded the exhausted, hollow expressions of soldiers. In the snow-covered trenches of Ukrenia, I listened to young men talk about the homes they missed.I had seen too much, seen the way eyes turned empty after losing everything, hands trembling as they searched through ruins for loved ones.I had also seen wildflowers blooming stubbornly amid destruction.Even in the deepest despair, there was the

In the corner of that photo, a bright, smiling profile cut straight through the gloom of Nevaeh’s world. It was Chester.Almost instantly, the hallucinations that had been haunting her vanished like a receding tide. She stared at the blurry image, her dry eyes burning again. She had found him!She had finally found him.Without hesitation, she booked the earliest flight to Hollandia. On the plane, she replayed their reunion over and over in her mind. She would tell him everything: that she had been wrong, that she regretted it, and that she could not live without him. She believed that as long as she showed up and was sincere enough, the Chester who had always followed her, who had always looked at her like she was his whole world, would soften. He had to.When she finally saw him in real life, standing right there in front of the café, alive and real, her heart, which had been drifting on the edge of collapse, suddenly settled. He looked even better than before, his boyish

Third-person POVThis scene felt strangely familiar to Nevaeh. Two years ago, she had stood the same way at the airport, watching Chester walk away, completely powerless to stop him.Security officers had held her firmly in place. Around her, travelers cast curious and even slightly disdainful looks. She struggled, screaming his name until her voice went hoarse. However, all she could do was watch that familiar figure disappear at the end of the corridor, without even a single glance back."Chester!"In the end, she was dragged out of the terminal and left standing on the busy street outside, lost and hollow. The early autumn sun in Solstice City was still warm, but when it fell on her, it felt like ice. Chester was truly gone.Later, there were rumors at Brookshire University that her family had forced her to return. Her mother slapped her across the face."Get yourself together!"You were the one who called off the engagement and pushed him to leave to Hollandia. Life in Hollandia was busy but fulfilling, with a new environment, heavy coursework, and classmates from all around the world. It was overwhelming at first, but it pushed me to grow quickly.I threw myself into everything, from learning the language to practically living in the library and taking part in group discussions. My days were packed from morning to night.Sometimes, late at night, memories from the past would surface. However, the sharp pain they used to bring started to fade. The more I learned, the more certain I became.I wanted to be a journalist. Not just any journalist, though. Unlike my mom, I wanted to be a war correspondent. I wanted to expose the ugliness of the world. Then, one ordinary weekend, everything changed.I had just left the library with a few classmates to head to a café in the city center. The sky over Amsterford City was always gray, and the wind carried the damp chill of the canals as it brushed against my face.We had just reached the café e

There was still a delicate box sitting on my desk. Inside were all the little things Nevaeh had given me over the years, along with a thick stack of letters she had written to me.I opened the box and glanced inside. Then, without hesitation, I picked it up, walked out to the yard, and tossed the whole thing into the trash."Chester?" My mom stood in the doorway, looking at me in surprise."They're useless now. It’s better to throw them away." I dusted off my hands, my tone light. She walked over and pulled me into a gentle hug. "Good. It's time to move forward."The days before leaving the country passed quickly. I met up with friends, spent time with my family, and got everything ready for the trip.I deliberately blocked out anything related to Nevaeh and Edward. All I knew was that she had tried to contact me many times, but every attempt failed. Her mom said she cried for a long time on the day she found out I had thrown away all the gifts and letters. She said she did no
