“Are you nervous?” Elias asked and I shook my head vigorously.

Words are like barbs. Sometimes you don't know when they sink in and stick. The moment the ladies left the room I got out from where I was hiding and finally let out a sigh I didn't know I was holding. The secrecy from earlier between Nik and Serena and the way they were discussing them gave me an inkling that something was up. The thin lady must be an ex, or someone who was once interested in Nik, in whatever capacity I don't know. I managed to rub my wet hand over my straight hair to make sure that there was no fly always and finally stumbled out of the toilet. Just outside Serena had come to the lounge also, probably looking for me and we almost bumped into each other on my way out. “Babe,” she called out in her soft voice and I managed to croak out a smile. “You look like you have seen a ghost, are you sure you're fine?” She followed her initial question. “Hmn hmm” I nodded rapidly, and made to leave when I noticed that the men had moved to the lounge too. Elaine. “Where were you?” The boom of his voice in the darkness greeted me the moment the door opened and it rooted me in a spot. I thought he was asleep. I had delayed coming home till I was sure he was asleep. So why was he wide awake and staring daggers at me. “Out.” I answered, and immediately began to take off my shoes. “Out where? You smell of alcohol.” He added out of nowhere. I stepped deeper into the room and he was sitting up in bed with the sheets bunched up around his waist. “Out with Elias.” I added, as if this clarification was good enough. His eyes tracked me as I began to do my usual routine of taking off my jewelry, the pins in my hair and the rest. “Why didn't you take your own car?” I shrugged, “I didn't feel like driving?” “Why didn't you ask your driver to take you?” I shrugged again, “Elias was driving.” “But he doesn't have a car.” I stopped my motion and turned to look at him, feeling the beginning of anger, and jealousy but managing to temper it d

The familiar smile on his face was enough to pull me into a sense of security and I heaved a little sigh to relax myself. “When is he coming?” I picked up my water glass again and took a little sip. “In a few minutes, relax please. Remember I got you into this mess, and it's my duty to get you out of it.”“I don't blame you Elias. It's been almost 2 years, and while it wasn't the most appropriate way to

Nik. I was sitting at the table drinking my coffee when she walked in. I swallowed a huge sip, letting the bitter dark liquid burn the residual of sleeplessness and hangover from last night's activities. “Good morning,” El greeted, coming to stand in front of me, taking me by quite some surprise. “Morning.” I raised my brow, trying to judge her mood and the reason why she was willing to talk to me after last night. My eyes followed her frame as she walked around to the kitchen and poured herself a cup of coffee, which she threw 3 cube sugar in and doused in milk. I've lived with her long enough not to bother judging her choice or style. I waited with bated breath and a kind of unease at the way she carried on, waiting for the shoe to drop. “I went back to the office last night.” Even though she didn't ask, this mood was good enough to not make it worse by leaving her guessing where I was. “Hmm, okay.” She nodded and stared into her cup. “You're up early,” I started again, no
