AVA'S POV

"I hope you're not planning on killing him," I had to ask.

"Don't worry, Ava. I’ll handle it." Walter started the car and kept driving.

"Oh, Walter..." I wiped the tears from my eyes. I had a bad feeling about his definition of ‘handling it.’ "I have to worry. What do you have in mind? How do you plan on dealing with him? I don't want you—"

"I'm not going to kill him, Ava. Of course not. But I’ll make sure he never threatens you again." Walter’s expression was stone-cold, all traces of his usual cheerfulness gone.

I had always known him to be lighthearted, but right now, he was a stranger to me.

Was he genuinely concerned, or was he just trying to impress me?

"Tell me, did he threaten to hurt you?" Walter pressed, scanning my face and body as if searching for hidden injuries.
