LOGINAUTUMN'S POV
I spent the next day trying to bottle my emotions. Turns out Dante was the head of the largest cartels in the whole of North america.
I pleaded with my mother several times countless times but she simply gave me a sad smile shaking her head. Mateo simply stayed out of it and if I didn't know better I'd say he was scared of his own son.
The thought of that made my skin crawl and I pushed it aside. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, my mother announced that he and Mateo were leaving for their honeymoon. And by that they were going on a traveling spree. She never said when they would be back and it only made the knot tighter.
They locked me up with the best while they toured the world. The mansion felt empty and I felt like a prey set for heartless and dark predators.
So I did the only thing I could to keep myself productive and avoid the monster called Date. I spent the past thirty six hours searching for a job. I had graduated from med school as a nurse but I hadn't had the chance to work full time.
I sat in the waiting room tugging my nails nervously. This was going to be my first interview and actual job since I left college.
“Autumn," a female voice called out and I looked up to find a coffee skinned lady staring at me with a bright smile.
"Yes, I'm here," I got up and she moved aside gesturing to the office ahead. I clutched my bag feeling more self conscious.
Taking a deep breath I knocked on the door waiting for some sort of reply. "Come in," he muttered and I pushed the door open, stepping in.
My eyes landed on a man who seemed to be in his late thirties. He had light brown hair and a defined face.
"Good day. I'm sorry I was told to come to her for an Interview?" I asked with a slightly uneasy voice. He nodded flashing my soft smile but for some reason it did nothing to calm me down.
I took a seat, placing my bag on my lap. "I must say your credentials were spot on," he spoke and I felt my shoulders reflect the tension wearing off.
"I'm glad you think so," We sat together in awkward silence and I felt compelled to break it. "So do I start or?"
His face fell and I watched him ready for the news. "You're really good but the slot was already filled." I raised an eyebrow staring at him.
"Thank you for your time," I muttered while getting up. I gave him a small smile walking towards the door. "Wait," he voice came out filled with desperation and I turned, giving him a tired gaze.
I wasn't done sitting down," I shot him a look. Taking slow steps I sat in front of him, my eyes ot. "Although I don't mind adding a spot for you.
"Oh my God. Thank you so much," I yelled trying to control my excitement. The thought of running into Dante was enough to drive anyone crazy. That was if you ignored how hot he looked.
Doctor Eric smiled leaning in. "But you'll have to pay somehow," he added and every shred of excitement vanished without a trace. I stared at him with a bland face dragging my hand off the table. "What kind of favour?" I asked, giving him a look of suspicion.
He got off his chair and I lifted my gaze following him every moment. Something screamed at me to leave but I stayed still. He held the arms of my chair trapping me in.
"You're a pretty girl. Autumn is young too. No one will take you seriously if they don't get something in return.
His hand slowly trailed my face and I grimace in disgust. "Let me go please. I'm not interested in working here anymore," I stuttered but he only leaned in.
“I'll increase my hourly pay," he pleaded and watched as his eyes darkened with lust. Before I could control myself I raised my legs up kicking him between his legs.
He let out a pained scream and I took the opportunity to bolt for the door. Just then Ryker stood up staring at me. "What happened," he asked, his face paler than the first time I saw him. "Its nothing,"
His expression told me he believed not a word from my lips and I walked closer trying to convince him. "Did he touch you?" His question took me by surprise and I stared at him not trusting myself to speak.
"Son of a bitch," before i could stop him Ryker raced towards the office despite the nurses complaints.
Letting out a sigh I walked out the clinic with no destination in mind. For the next two hours I roamed the streets of New York. With the freeze against my skin I forgot everything that seemed to have happened in the past three days.
My legs grew tired during the third hour and I walked into a small cafe sitting down. Despite its large space it was empty all except the lady who sat at the far end reading a book. I ordered a large cup of coffee and saffron. It was pretty stupid as it was already sunset but I was way too famished to care.
Thirty minutes later I threw the paper cup in the trash can while walking outside. My phone buzzed and I stared at the text. "Where are you??" - Ryker.
My fingers danced around the keyboard when I felt something poke my lower back. "Don't move," I looked down and my mouth grew dry at the gun.
AutumnI found my way back to the building, and I held the doorknob of the other door, wanting to open it and sneak in, and it wasn’t even the back door.In my quest to get out and find Dante, I had found that door, which fortunately, was unlocked, and I had sneaked out through the door. The good path was that the door led me through a straight aisle that led to the bedroom I had been given, and I couldn’t be more relieved that I found the door. My intention had been to tell Dante about the door so that he would have an easier means to get to me, but because of the conversation we were having, I totally forgot. I was also supposed to remind him about finding out why we couldn’t call each other, but I forgot that as well.“He has a way of making me forget what I want to say to him,” I grumbled as I turned the doorknob, but to my utmost shock, it was locked. My mouth fell open with shock.I tried to turn the knob over and over again, but it wasn’t yielding, and I realized that it had b
DanteAfter I got over the shock of what Autumn just told me, I became deeply curious, as my first thought was that she had eventually agreed to take the money from Dare-Devil.“How?” I asked curiously.Autumn cleared her throat.“A friend of mine is going to send us a little amount of money that can get us out of here,” she answered. My heart fell into my stomach in disappointment, but I decided not to write that off completely.“What friend? Susan?” I asked Autumn. And I would be very disappointed if Autumn was that friend. Besides, Autumn didn’t have any other friend that I knew about aside from Susan.I would be disappointed because two nights ago, I did talk to Susan to help me speak to Autumn to convince her. It was easy to get Autumn to change her mind through Susan because that was the only person I believed Autumn listened to.“No, it’s not Susan,” Autumn answered, looking away slightly.“Then it’s who?” I asked.I was getting a little upset and suspicious, but I wanted to be
DanteI was woken up even earlier and with a harsher tone than usual.“It’s time to start your duty for the day,” I had been told.I didn’t think I was going to sleep well last night, but I ended up sleeping really well, and that was because I was tired as hell. I did have some terrible dreams about the company, something about it being raided and David wasn’t able to do anything, but even when I woke up, I didn’t do anything about it because I knew that the dream was as a reaction of the news I got.I started working as I should, and I tried to block out any form of thought that would make me distracted, or think about the decision I made.I didn’t want to regret anything. And besides, it was already too late to do so.Romiro’s guard watched me to ensure that I didn’t stop for a minute to rest or try to give the job to someone else, but I also paid him no mind. I did the task with all the rage and bitterness inside of me.“Did you make a sound?” He asked me.I knew that he was speaki
AutumnI waited for Dante last night…all through the night as a matter of fact, but he never showed up.“Is he upset with me?” I kept asking myself.Staying stuck in this room just made me really upset, and confused, and restless. I tried to sleep, but even that wasn’t working. Then, at some point, I changed my thought.“Has something happened to him?” I began to ask myself. From the conversation I heard from Romiro, he didn’t have good plans towards Dante. He might have even wanted him dead, and yet, I took that information for granted. What if something terrible had happened to Dante already? My restlessness increased so much that I couldn’t sleep.Again, I did try to call Dante, but it didn’t connect…several times.“Why can I call other people but not him?” I asked myself worriedly. It was morning, but I still wasn’t feeling any better. Someone else brought breakfast, but I couldn’t bring myself to eat anything. I would have asked after Bianca, but I already knew that they were t
DanteBy the end of that day, I was already exhausted, and I thought I was going to collapse from it. When food was eventually given to me, I ate like a starved animal.I had to take Romiro’s offer and submit myself to be his slave for as long as I lived; there was no getting out of here. After eating, I realized that I wasn’t half-full. Never in my entire existence had I ever had to go through such labor. After accepting and Romiro paid off the cabbie, he tripled my task, making me work like a donkey in a couple of hours. Worse, he ensured that I was being supervised, so there was no way I wouldn’t do the job.“Here, you don’t use someone else to get the job done because you don’t want to do it. This is not your comfort and luxury where you are in control of things, De Luca,” Romiro’s worker had told me.There were blisters on my palms, but more than that, there was pain and fury in my heart for how everything had turned out.I was in a deeper mess than I ever thought I would be.W
DanteThings became worse when the cabbie returned that same day to ask for his money, literally causing a scene because he thought that I would have paid him off already.“I am involving the police if I don’t get the money right now!” He roared threateningly. “Here, owing is a crime and you could go to jail for it,” he added.Nothing I did to pacify him worked, and soon, Romiro’s attention was drawn to it.“I see that you have decided to make yourself a debtor to everyone,” Romiro mocked. “I am not sure you were warned, but I don’t tolerate such scandals in my estate, so you either give him the money or you leave with him, but bear in mind that the moment you step out of my estate gate with him, you are going to jail,” Romiro added. There was a tone of warning in his words, and coupled with the cabbie’s angry threats, I knew that it wasn’t just throwing words around.I was ready to leave Romiro’s estate penniless and aimless if push came to shoves, but ending in jail wasn’t part of t
