AUTUMN'S POV
In the span of three days guns had been aimed at me three times. God if this was a sign I got it loud and clear. "Common move and if you make a scene. I'll pull the trigger and drag you bleeding to your useless family," she threatened, nudging me with the gun.
I straightened up immediately, nodding aggressively. "Are we clear?" She whispered and I nodded.
"Good. Switch off the phone," she ordered, pressing the gun so hard, I could feel the coldness of the metal. Trying my best to stay still, I switched off the phone.
"Throw it in the bush nearby," Without thinking, I threw my phone in my legs, barely keeping me up. "See that car there? Walk towards it," she muttered and my tongue went dry.
I was being kidnapped and it was all because my mother had a bad taste in men. I stayed still and she moved the gun farther up.
"Times ticking move one. And slowly," I took small steps, trying to find a way out. This was a fairly quiet place but the thought of running scared me. She could still shoot me or worse the bullet could hit someone else.
I watched a toddler walk towards us hand in hand with her father and that was more than enough to kill any thought of escaping. My kidnapper pulled open the car door pushing me in.
I watched her walk to the other side of the car and I tried to run out the other way, but to my misfortune it was locked. All of them. She got in and for the first time I saw her face. She was beautiful with straight black hair and really graphic eye makeup.
She gave me a bright smile although it never reached her eyes and that only made me more uncomfortable. "Dont worry if everything goes well, I might not have to kill you. Might.
The car started and I clutched my dress watching her take me to God knows where. I prayed silently, promising all sorts of things to God if he kept me alive. "I'll go to church every Sunday.
I'll tell my mom I love her.
I'll stop wishing evil on Abel.
Tears spilled from my eyes and I bit my lips wanting to be as quiet as possible. My throat hurt from the pressure and I looked up trying to get some air.
She stared at me through her rear view mirror and I watched her lips stretch in a sinister smile. Obviously the sight of my pain gave her joy.
She took a turn and I stared in confusion as she headed for Dante's mansion. She stopped at the gate and the guards came out.
"Who's the girl," one of them asked, staring into the car. Unlike I expected, she seemed completely calm.
"Common Autumn tell him," she muttered with a bright smile. I turned to the guard shaking. "She's a friend of mine,"
He stared at me for a while and I pleaded silently but he turned away leaving me, shocked and confused. The gate opened and she drove the car in, parking it in a discreet part of the house.
My kidnapper got out of the car and I watched her, anxiously drumming on my thigh. She pulled the door open and I pushed her away.
She let out a groan due to the impact but she held me by my hair. "You stupid bitch," she gritted, slapping me across the face.
"Common, let's go in," she whispered, pulling me in. I looked around confused. For the first time the house was empty. Of all fucking times to be out. They chose now.
We stepped into it and it looked completely empty. My eyes scanned the hall and I noticed the ground had a faint red colour. Blood.
Something was definitely up.
Throwing me to the couch, she hid behind it. "You move, you die.”
I nodded at her words, tears flowing down my face. It finally dawned on me that I was being used to lure someone. I was supposed to be bait.
I sat in silence for what felt like hours while thoughts of what she could do filled my head. I thought of my mom and Mateo. They were no longer in the country but I couldn't help but think that she was in danger too.
My sobbing intensified as I thought of the probability that she was dead. We were not as close after my dad was killed but she was the only family I had left. I sat still, tortured by my thoughts for so long i had no idea when Dante walked in
I lifted my gaze up to find him staring at me with confusion etched on his face. I shook my head trying to speak but my voice failed me. Getting the message he pulled out his gun but she beat him to it.
Grabbing my shoulder she stood up frying at Dante. I let out a scream as I watched him clutch his side. His face remained the same but the veins on his neck were enough to tell me he wasn't okay.
He aimed the gun at her but she pushed me towards him using the opportunity to hide. Air left my lungs as I fell into his arms. He held me but the sweat sliding down his forehead told me he was no better than me.
“Where the fuck is everyone?” He growled his breathing shaky. I shook my head, unable to think properly.
“I'm so sorry," I choked out and he scammed my face then my body probably searching for injuries.
A scream left my lips when a bullet grazed my ear. Dante threw to the floor and I crawled hiding behind a couch. My heart raced so fast I thought it might stop. I watched him pull the trigger before squatting beside mem
“Fuck,” he cursed, pulling off his jacket and my eyes widened as I took in the large blood stain on his white shirt.
DanteI followed my dad into his study. He was furious, but so was I. The moment I entered the study after him, he shut the door.“What is the meaning of this?” My dad asked.“I don’t understand what you are talking about,” I said tightly.Dominic already told me that he didn’t alert my dad before coming to get me. While that was relieving to hear, I doubted that he would stay unaware forever because David had already been involved in it. I was still upset with Dominic for involving that dickhead.“Don’t play games with me, Dante,” my dad warned.“I am not playing games. I just don’t understand what you mean,” I lied.“After acting funny, you decided to disappear during dinner time,” he stated the obvious.“I didn’t disappear,” again, I lied.It wasn’t that I couldn’t tell my dad to his face what I felt like saying, but this was completely different. From the very beginning, I already knew what was at stake, and this wasn’t a risk that the clan was willing to take.“Then where the fuc
AutumnAt first, I had thought that Camille was messing with me, but with the horror in her eyes, I knew that it wasn’t a prank.“Why isn’t Mateo aware?” I had asked Camille.“Dominic wants to keep it under wraps,” Camille had told me.“And what if it is too dangerous?” I had asked. “Why should something like this even be kept discreet?” I asked further in urgency. My heart was beating rapidly.Dante was missing. It was as though I had just been told that a part of me was missing, and I could barely breathe, and Camille was talking about handling it discreetly.“You need to calm down,” Camille had told me.“Don’t freaking tell me that, Camille!” I had yelled at her. “What if he gets killed because Dominic decides to be quiet about it? If Dante has gone missing, does Dominic think he will be able to handle it all by himself?” I had queried Camille. She had sighed deeply.“He is not alone, Autumn,” Camille had said. “He is involving David,” she had added.“His cousin?” I had asked in di
DanteThe gunshot that rang in the air was almost deafening.“What the fuck!” Don Silvanos’s representative swore under his breath as he glanced around rapidly. Then we both heard some of his men groaning in pain before falling silent in death. I hadn’t even known that there were guards outside the room watching over me even though I had already been bound with chains. We both knew that his men were being gunned down, and soon enough, it would get to him.He glared at me with venom and bitterness, and I sneered in return.“One day, I will have the honor of slitting your throat open and watching you bleed to death,” he said hatefully.I could see the anger in the eyes because he was unable to kill me, which happened to be his earnest desire.“You will never have that day, you bastard,” I told him with confidence. It was a good thing that I wasn’t cowering before we heard gunshots, otherwise he would have termed it that it was because I suspected that my men had come for me that was why
DanteI opened my eyes instantly, and that caused my head to pound. The room was pitch black.“Ouch, fuck,” I groaned in pain.Having headaches wasn’t a big deal to me, but the pain in my head was more than a headache. It was even more than a migraine, and it made my head spin.“Fuck,” I exclaimed again, but it was more in annoyance than the pain.I proceeded to touch my head, but I realized that my hands were tied.“What the heck…” I grumbled. My feet were also bound, and that was when I recalled what had happened. The fucking tavern and that nosy man with a disgusting grin on his face.“Fucking hell,” I muttered in anger. “Whoever is responsible for this is going to wish he was never born,” I vowed.Barely had the threat come out of my mouth when the light in the room was switched on and the area I was seated became bright. The room was empty, except for the chair I was sitting on. Then out of a dark corner, a man walked out.“I can’t wait to wish I was never born, Dante De Luca,”
AutumnThe next couple of minutes after Maria’s screaming had become chaotic. It was as though she had gone wild with craziness, and Mateo had had to ring for the family’s doctor who came in the speed of light. An hour later, dark at night now, we were waiting impatiently for the doctor to come out and tell us what was going on.My mum was sobbing.“This isn’t your fault, mum,” I tried to calm her down.“No, it isn’t,” she insisted.“We don’t even know what is wrong with her,” I said. “She could be mentally unstable,” I added because there wasn’t any justification for Maria’s display of wildness. One minute, she was speaking, and the next, she was tearing out her throat with screaming as though she had seen a ghost. To me, there was only one explanation to that.“Maria is not mentally unstable,” Mateo correctly me instantly, but his tone was harsh.I noticed how stiff and detached he had been since the whole fiasco. He had not even spared my mum a glance once. His major focus and conc
AutumnMaria would soon be down for dinner even though she was wasting time already, and yet, Dante wasn’t here.“Where the fuck is he?” Mateo was bellowing and my mum was desperately trying to calm him down. The table was set for just my mum and Mateo, Dante and Maria, and then myself. Thinking about it now, I felt like the third wheel already. Everyone would be at the table with their partner, which very much gave the perfect picture of a family dinner. And I would just be seated in their midst like an odd flower which didn’t belong.“I am sure he is somewhere close,” my mum said soothingly.Mateo was fuming, and as such, he wasn’t paying any attention to my mum.Even though I hadn’t seen him many times to come to a conclusion, this was the first time that I was seeing him out of character. He had always appeared calm and collected, and very mature, especially when he came into my room and spoke to me about my mum, but right now, I was seeing a different man.I was seeing an older v
