I poured myself a drink and gulped everything in at once.

“Having a bad day?” Dominic asked.

“You cannot even begin to imagine,” I responded.

I poured another drink, and this time around, I poured another glass for Dominic and gave it to him, and he took it from me.

“Is this about your fiancée?” Dominic asked.

“She is not my fiancée,” I countered immediately as I downed the entire drink again.

When I reached for a second round, Dominic stopped me.

“I think you are having enough, and you don’t want her to come and find you drunk,” he advised me.

“I don’t care about her, Dominic,” I stated.

The more I thought about her, the tighter the knot in my stomach became. I hadn’t seen, heard from, or spoken to Maria in a really long time, and quite frankly, I had completely forgotten about her, but now, she had been resurfaced as though a measure to torment me with.

“You know you don’t have a choice here,” Dominic reminded me.

“Are you trying to be as annoying as David?” I asked.
