Annabelle slowly opened her eyes, stretching her arms and yawning. She looked around the room, taking a moment to get her bearings. That's when she noticed Devon was nowhere to be found. She glanced over at Camille, who was still fast asleep, peaceful and serene. Annabelle smiled, wondering where Devon might have gone so early. She threw off the covers and got out of bed, padding softly across the room to grab her phone and check for any messages from Devon. "Where are you, love?" she whispered to herself, curiosity piqued.

Annabelle smiled reassuringly at Camille, trying to hide her concern. "Yeah, sweetie, everything's fine. I was just trying to reach your dad, but let's get ready for breakfast, okay?”.

Camille rubbed the sleep from her eyes, "Okay, Mum."

Together, they began to get dressed and ready for the day, Annabelle's mind still wondering where Devon might be and why he wasn't answering his phone.

As they walked to the restaurant, Camille looked up at Annabelle with conc

The late summer sun spilled its warmth over the coastal town, casting long shadows across the narrow streets lined with whitewashed buildings. From the second-floor balcony of his temporary office, Devon Carter could see the masts of fishing boats swaying gently in the harbor, the sea glittering under a sky so blue it almost looked unreal. It was hard to believe this place was now the headquarters of his life. Spain had become his refuge — a place far enough from home for the world to think him gone, yet close enough that he could still feel the pull of everything he’d left behind. The boat explosion had erased him from the public eye. In the news, he was dead. In the business world, his absence was a mystery no one dared to speak of directly. But here, in this quiet corner of the Spanish coast, Devon’s empire lived on in secret. Clara was the only one who knew the truth. She had been his assistant for three years before everything went wrong — fiercely capable, discreet, and loya

The morning sunlight spilled through the tall windows of the dining room, painting everything in soft, honeyed gold. The air was calm, the scent of fresh bread and brewed coffee mingling with the faint rustle of the curtains as a gentle breeze drifted in from the garden. Annabelle sat at the head of the long table, her hands wrapped around a porcelain cup, steam curling from her coffee. Across from her sat Camille, in her light blue school uniform, her hair still slightly messy from sleep, a piece of toast balanced in her small hands. Annabelle had been watching her daughter for several minutes, letting her mind wander. There had been too many dark days lately—too many whispers about missing people, the explosion at the docks, unanswered questions about Damian and Devon. In the middle of all that, she realized how much she wanted to give Camille moments untouched by any of it. Moments that felt safe, happy, and normal. She finally broke the quiet hum of breakfast. “Camille,” she s

Sunday evening settled quietly over New York, the golden light slipping slowly behind the towering skyline. The city’s hum softened as families gathered in their homes, seeking rest and comfort before the week ahead. Inside Annabelle’s residence, a tense silence had settled. Camille sat quietly upstairs, her thoughts heavy, while downstairs, Annabelle paced the living room with a restless energy that refused to be calmed. Then, suddenly, the sharp chime of the doorbell echoed through the house, cutting through the stillness. Annabelle’s heart jumped. She exchanged a wary glance with Rose, who stood near the entrance, alert and ready. “Who could that be at this hour?” Annabelle murmured. Rose moved toward the door, her footsteps light but purposeful. As the door swung open, a familiar figure stepped inside—a man whose presence commanded attention even after months of absence. Devon’s father had returned. --- The man’s face bore the wear of travel, his eyes sharp beneath furrowe

The grand hall was packed with eager faces, the air thick with anticipation. Annabelle stood behind the heavy curtain, feeling the steady beat of her own heart echo in her ears. The bright lights of the stage awaited, and the countless eyes of the audience focused on her. It was a moment she had prepared for in private — yet the words she was about to speak still felt like fragile threads she had to weave together carefully. She closed her eyes briefly, centering herself. How did she begin to share a story so personal, so filled with both pain and hope? Where was the place to start? Her mind drifted back to childhood memories — or rather, what little she had of them. Her mother had died when she was very young, a loss that left a quiet emptiness in her early years. That absence shaped her childhood in ways she hadn’t fully understood until much later. Then there was her father, the man who had been the mayor before her — a pillar of strength and vision in their city. His death, sud
