Kael's POV

I hadn’t heard her voice in over a decade.

It drifted through the cracked stone like a ghost, soft but undeniable. My body froze, every muscle locked in place, and for a long moment, I didn’t move. I didn’t breathe. I just stared at the dark crevice in the cliffside, the echo of that single word repeating again and again in my mind.

Mother.

I’d buried her long ago—literally and figuratively. I was ten the last time I saw her. She’d vanished in the night, and Magnus told the pack she’d run from her duties, that she’d been weak and selfish. That she wasn’t worthy of her title.

He never let me ask questions. Never let me speak her name.

But now, here she was—hidden beneath the earth, behind a wall of secrets.

I stumbled forward, brushing dust from the edges of the stone. Another tremor rumbled beneath my feet. The wall gave way slowly, revealing a narrow stairwell spiraling into blackness.

“Kael.”

Her voice again. Closer. Stronger.

I stepped inside.

Amara’s POV I couldn't scream anymore. My throat was raw, my heart thundering so violently it echoed in my ears louder than the roar of the fire below. Caleb was gone, just like that. One moment by our side, the next swallowed by the earth, his name still bleeding off my lips.Kael held me tightly as we clung to the shattered edge, our bodies balanced between the collapsing stone and the abyss that wanted to devour us too. Every breath tasted like ash. My hands ached from gripping the ledge, but I refused to let go. Not again.Above us, Magnus stood in the glow of the cave’s destruction, no longer man, no longer wolf. His form had twisted, elongated limbs, blackened eyes, and skin cracked with dark veins that pulsed like roots feeding on hatred. When his voice came, it was wrong. Too deep, too many layers. Like something ancient was speaking through him.“You’ve forced my hand, Amara,” he said, smiling through jagged teeth. “You could’ve been a goddess.”“I would rather die as a woma

Amara's POV I didn’t flinch.Magnus came at me like a hurricane, his hands outstretched, that cursed collar aimed for my throat. His eyes gleamed with cruel confidence, convinced he’d overpower me like all the others before. He never expected resistance. He never expected me.The blade of Selene met him halfway.Metal shrieked against skin as the edge scraped his arm, slicing deep enough to draw blood. Magnus roared in fury and pain, twisting back with a speed no ordinary Alpha should have.He was stronger now. Something inside him had shifted.I circled slowly, blade raised, my wolf pressing hard beneath my skin.“I was merciful once,” I said. “I won’t be again.”“Mercy is for the weak,” he growled.“Then you should’ve never raised me to be strong.”He charged again. I met him head-on. Sparks flew as my blade clashed with his claws. His strikes were relentless, brutal, meant to cripple. But I didn’t back down.I danced with him in the dark. Each blow we exchanged told a story. His w

Kael’s POV I reached the edge of the ravine with blood in my mouth and thunder in my lungs. The mountain groaned behind me, rock splintering in protest as if the earth itself wanted to collapse the secrets I’d just uncovered. My mother’s voice still rang in my ears, but I had no time to process it. The pendant pulsed at my chest, warm and heavy, whispering truths I didn’t yet understand. But I knew one thing with terrifying clarity.Amara was in danger. Not just from Magnus—he was predictable in his cruelty—but from fate itself. Forces older than our bloodlines were converging, and she was at the center of it.She always had been.I followed the ravine’s curve until I found the mark—three slashes burned into a jagged stone. The signal of the Forgotten. I pressed my palm to it, and the wall of stone shimmered. Just as I stepped forward, a hand grabbed my shoulder.I spun, fangs flashing, ready to tear through whoever dared slow me.Caleb.He stumbled back, bloodied, bruised, but alive

Amara's POV I didn’t stop running. Each step scraped my feet raw against the uneven rocks, but I didn’t care. Kael’s kiss still burned on my lips, a silent plea I couldn’t shake.Don’t die.I wasn’t sure if I was running from Magnus’s pack or toward the edge of a world I wasn’t ready for. But either way, I couldn’t turn back. Not now.The ravine narrowed, mist curling at my feet like fingers reaching to drag me down. The rocks grew slick. Sharp. I slipped twice. The second time, I nearly didn’t get back up. My breath came in ragged bursts, panic choking me more than exhaustion.Still, I ran.Until I heard it.A scream.Kael.It wasn’t pain. It was rage. Power. A roar that shook the walls of the gorge.I stumbled to a stop, heart raising heavily. Every part of me screamed to go back. But I knew that’s exactly what they had want.Kael had stayed to buy me time.If I went back, I had make his sacrifice meaningless.I kept moving. Faster. Leaner. Desperate. Then a shadow moved up ahead.

Kael's POV I didn’t have time to think.Magnus filled the doorway, towering, dangerous, his aura swallowing the room in a choking wave of dominance. Blood stained his knuckles. His eyes burned straight into mine.“You betray me for her,” he said coldly. “My own son.”Amara gripped my hand, her body trembling behind me. I could feel the fear radiating off her, but she didn’t hide. She didn’t cower. Not this time.“I’m not your pawn anymore,” I said. His smile was slow, cruel. “You think love makes you brave?”I tightened my grip on Amara. “No. But it gives me a reason to fight.”His laugh echoed through the broken doorway. “You’ve gone soft. Just like your mother did.”That struck something deep, but I didn’t let it show. Not now. I stepped forward, shielding Amara. “Let us go.”“You think you can protect her?” Magnus asked. “You think I’ll let my heir vanish with a breeder I own?”“She’s not yours.”He moved fast. One second he was in the doorway, the next he had his hand wrapped aro
