For Maya Bennett, a one-night stand was supposed to be just that—one night. But when she walks into her mother’s house and finds the man from that unforgettable night standing there as her mother’s new boyfriend, her world tilts on its axis. Daniel Hayes is everything Maya swore to avoid—powerful, devastatingly handsome, and emotionally unavailable. But the sparks that ignited between them can’t be extinguished, no matter how wrong it feels. At first, they promise to leave what happened between them in the past in order not to hurt Helen, but then when the small marketing firm Maya works for is acquired by Daniel’s company she is sent over to the executive department as part of the transitioning team. Things start to get heated and they eventually start to cave into their desires. Can love survive when it was never meant to exist? Or will it destroy everything in its wake?

I stared blankly at the screen of my phone, the breakup message looking at me. I'd read the message at least ten times that morning, each word digging deeper into my chest. "I'm sorry, Maya. I just don't think we're good for each other anymore. I hope you find someone who makes you happy." I stopped working, and my coffee had become cold.I blinked, sighing as I forwarded the message to Celine with a single line: "You were right." It didn't take long. Within fifteen minutes, Celine burst into my office, her blonde hair bouncing as she marched in. "Girl, what the hell is going on?" Celine demanded, her voice a mix of concern and exasperation. "You're texting me cryptic messages, and I'm thinking you're curled up in a corner somewhere, crying over James, but..." She paused, scanning me. "You look fine! You're not even crying!" I leaned back in my chair, crossing my arms. "Why would I cry over a breakup I saw coming months ago? Honestly, I'm relieved." Celine's jaw dropped. "Relieved? Maya, the man just dumped you over text after three years together. That's brutal!" I shrugged. "It's not like he was making me happy. I guess I've been expecting this for a while. It's no big deal." Celine squinted, suspicious. "No big deal? You're telling me you're totally fine?" "Totally fine," I replied, forcing a small smile. Celine crossed her arms and tilted her head. "Then we're celebrating." "What?" "You heard me," Celine said with a mischievous grin. "We're going out tonight. Drinks, dancing, the works. We're going to party so hard you'll forget you even dated that loser." I laughed. "Celine, I have work tomorrow—" "I don't care," Celine interrupted, pulling me out of my chair. "You're coming with me. And wear something jaw-dropping ." She winked at me I rolled my eyes, but a part of me was excited. Maybe this was exactly what I needed – a night out with my best friend to forget my troubles. The club was packed "This is insane," I shouted over the music. "Exactly what you need!" Celine yelled back, signalling the bartender. "Two tequila shots!" I groaned. "Celine—" Celine handed me a shot glass. "Don't argue. Just drink." I hesitated for a second before downing the tequila in one gulp, the burn spreading through my chest. I winced but couldn't help the laugh that bubbled out of me. "That's my girl!" Celine cheered. "Now let's dance!" The two of us made our way to the centre of the dance floor. Celine began grinding on me, I held her, enjoying the performance and view of her ass. I found myself letting go, the stress and disappointment of the past few weeks. The music came to a stop, and we made our way back to the bar. “That was insane, I can't remember the last time I went out.” I smiled. “You're welcome.” Celine smirked. “I honestly needed this, and I think you might have company.” I smirked at her as I saw a man approaching our table. “Hey, ladies.” He smiled, but his gaze never left Celine. He whispered something in her ears. Celine leaned close to me and whispered, "I'm heading out, and don't forget Yolo. I'll see you in the morning!" I rolled my eyes, laughing. "Good luck, you lunatic." Celine winked and disappeared into the crowd, leaving me alone. I sat down sipping on my mojito and that was when my eyes came in contact with a God, he looked elegant and his lips looked like I could drown in them, I found myself biting down on my lips, “it's probably the liquor”. I said to myself As if sensing my gaze, he looked up and our eyes met. A slow, knowing smile spread across his lips. I felt a jolt of electricity run through me. He was gorgeous, and the way he looked at me made me feel like the only person in the room. Before I could second-guess myself, he stood and walked over to me. "Are you always this obvious when you're staring at someone?" he asked, his voice deep and smooth. My cheeks flushed. "And what makes you think I was staring.” I clapped back “Alright, darling, let's pretend you weren't.” He smirked “What are you having?” He asked his voice smooth. “A mojito.” My voice came out a little high pitched. “Two glasses of mojito, please.” He said to the bar attender. “You don't have to.” I said. “It's no biggie, and I couldn't let a pretty girl like you sit alone.” “And what makes you think I'm alone.” I said, staring at him. “You've been sitting here for a while now.” He gave me a half smile and half smirk. My heart was racing, and I felt my core become a little moist, I crossed my legs and then cleared my throat. “So you've been watching me.” I half smiled “I was. What's the use of lying, darling?” He watched me intensively. “You know most people consider that stalking.” “It isn't when you were also stealing glances.” He smirked. For a moment, it felt like the world to a pause we were lost, staring into each other's eyes The sound of the glass interrupted us. “So mind telling me why, a pretty girl like yourself is sitting alone at the bar?” He asked, taking a sip from his drink. “I came with my friend, but… She left.” “Looks like you'll be needing company.” He smiled “Seems, like I would.” I stared at him while taking another sip. I looked calm and collected on the outside, but on the inside, I was yelling and a nerve wreck. I can't remember the last time I was out with a guy. “And what's your name?” He asked, adjusting himself on his seat. “I'm Maya. And you are?” “Daniel,” “Nice to meet you, Daniel.” I said in a low slutty voice. “The pleasure is mine Maya.” he said, dragging the word pleasure.Maya’s Pov“I most definitely won’t share a room with you. You have no right to dismiss my opinion or command me.” I responded “I would not allow you to stay with strangers.” Daniel barked. “How is Lilian a stranger?” I argued back.“If you go with Lilian she’s fired.” He spat his voice venomous.I scoffed, he sounded pathetic and childish, one minute he’s loving and caring the next he’s an unbearable asshole. He won, and I gave in, not wanting to leave Lilian without a job.We made our way to the elevator, the air inside was thick, the silence so loud you could hear a pin drop. The elevator came to a stop, I exited faster than the speed of light, I didn’t want to breathe the same air with Daniel. As I stormed out of the elevator, Daniel was behind me. His steps are elegant and majestic. We reached the room, and he swiped the card, opening the door for me. The room wasn’t bad. It had a king-sized bed and a couch, and the couch looked comfortable. I’ll look for another hotel online.
Maya’s Pov“We?” “Why do I have to go with you?” Daniel was about to respond before getting cut off by mum.“Maya, he's your boss. Watch your tone.” She fumed. “It's fine, Helen.” Daniel stepped in.“Maya, you're good at what you do. There is no one else I'd rather have coming on this trip with me.” He smiled, trying to convince me.I mean, I don't have a choice. Mum was right he's my boss, and I wouldn't want to be disrespectful just because he was with mum. That doesn't mean I'll act out.“How long is the trip for?” I inquired. “I don't have an answer yet. If things go well, we should be done in two weeks or even a week.” He responded.“Alright, then.” I responded. “I'll see you on Monday.” I planted a kiss on my mum's cheek. “I know you'll miss me, Bye.” I said before walking out. This was rushed, I wasn't a fan of packing, and travelling also made me nauseous. The Uber dropped me in front of my house, and immediately, I got in. I brought out my box.Time to start packing, I mu

Gosh it's been a while since I had spoken or seen my mum.I pulled out my phone dialing her number. The phone rang out. “Look who finally remembered they had a mother.” Mum said, sounding disappointed.“I'm sorry, I know I should have at least called, but I've been busy with work and trying to settle in.” I explained.“You should always create time for family Maya, when will I see you?” Mum inquired.“I'll, droo-” A voice I knew so well stopped me in my tracks. “Honey, you're out of milk.” Daniel's voice echoed in the background.“Oh, I forgot to restock, I'll pick up some later.” Mum responded.“Maya, back to you, You said something about dropping by?”“Y…Yeah.” I stammered. “Not today though, probably next week.” I replied.“Nonsense, Come over today, I know you're not doing anything” She pushed.“Mum, you are with Daniel, you guys should have fun, I wouldn't want to intrude.” I tried convincing her, but it
Daniel's Pov Maya had left me speechless, I shouldn't have yelled at her. I was having an awful day, and taking it out on her was wrong. The sudden change in her attitude left a pang on my chest. I should make it up to her, right? I got up from my seat, deciding to head to her office. I froze on the spot, The sight before me made my jealousy rise. She was enveloped in a hug with a guy. I had never seen him before and I know for sure, he doesn't work for me. So who was he and how Dare he laid his hands on what was mine? “Maya, Bennet, this is a place of work. Don't bring your relationship, parading shamelessly in the halls!!” My voice echoed, causing heads to turn. She broke apart from the embrace, confusion written all over her face. “Now get back to work.” I didn't wait for a response. I walked away, leaving her dumbfounded. I sat down on my desk, trying to calm my nerves down. “How dare she flaunt another man?” She was meant to be single. How did she get a man in t
Maya's Pov After walking out of his office, I began doing the unreasonable tasks he gave me. He had crossed a line with me, I might have a twisted feeling of love for him, but I would definitely not be disrespected. I was finally done. I took out my phone, dialling Celine's number. After an eternity, she picked. “What took you so long, I could have been dying” I fake cried. “I didn't even take time to pick.” She laughed. “Anyways, what's up, how are you?” She inquired “Alot, I need to rant, Meet me at Waves Bar.” I answered. “It's rare for you to go out on a work day. This must be serious, I'll meet you there then.” Celine responded. Hanging up, I ordered an Uber. I got to the bar, and thankfully It wasn't packed. “A shot of tequila, please.” I said to the bartender. “Easy there.” Celine said, smiling. “I'll have what she's having and another round for her too.” She said to the bartender. “What should we cheer to?” She asked. “To, stuck up bosses.” I said, clin
Maya's PovI didn't feel like working today, yesterday's events left me unsettled.I forcefully got ready, I wish I could call in sick but I don't want to leave a bad impression with my colleagues. After standing in a spot for eternity. I headed out of the house.I got into the office building, hoping I wouldn't bump into Daniel yet,” It's 8 in the morning, he probably won't be around.” I convinced myself.I got into the elevator and was about to push the button leading to my office floor, when a familiar hand appeared stopping the elevator.“Good morning, sir.” I greeted trying to sound professional. “Morning Princess, glad to know you're alive you didn't respond to my message.” My breath hitched in my throat, his voice had a way of controlling me and I hated the effect he had on me.“I didn't see it.” I whispered lying through my teeth. He laughed coming dangerously close to me.“Don't lie to me Maya.” It sounded like a warning and I was getting turned on.
