Annalise

Everyone once had their traumatizing moment, and mine was just about to begin. Leaning on the creamy, white hospital wall, I watched as my mother battled for her own life, connected to a series of tubes and breathing machines. She just lay there, eyes closed, skin pale and faintly purple, having to exist was so much pain for her.

The machines made slight beeping sounds, and each time I remembered that she had to depend on them to survive, it was enough to crumble the remnants of my world. “Isn't there something you can do?” Rosie wrapped my shoulders as I stared at the doctor, trying hard to remain sane, “stabilize her condition for a few more weeks, I need to raise the money. Please.”

Rosie forced me to stare at her, “how about you return home to relax, honey? Let Mr. Jones and I figure this out.”

I shook my head, pushing her hands away. Something deep down told me they weren't telling the truth, it was written all over the doctor—Mr. Jones’s—face. Swallowing hard, I clutched my dress and exhaled loudly, “Is there something you're not telling me?”

“Anna–”

“Tell me the truth!” I snapped, fighting the burning ache in my chest. It was all too much to handle, but I couldn't show a sign of weakness in front of them. I had to show them I could handle my problems. Dr Jones turned to face me, his expression a mix of worry and hesitation, “apart from the money needed for your mother's surgery, she would need a kidney donor. Her other one is failing as well”

I shook my head and took a step backwards, “no.”

Rosie held me in place, wrapping her arms around me as I choked out a sob, “this can't be happening, it can't be happening. Tell me you're lying, please! Tell me she's going to wake up!” I cried out, trying to wriggle out of Rosie's grasp. A tear slipped down my cheeks as I felt my defensive walls crumbling. A part of me shattered into a thousand pieces when Mr. Jones blurted out the news.

My mother needed a donor and a whole lot of money to survive. I had none. my part-time jobs could only sustain her for a while, and it would take half a year to gather up money for her treatment. I hugged Rosie, wetting her white clothes with my tears, “I can't do this anymore, she's in pain.”

“Your mother's proud of you, honey.” Rosie's soft voice grazed my ears as she led me out of the ward, “you are strong, you have to be strong for your mother. No one else can save her but you.”

“And what if I'm too late?”

Rosie's face fell, but she still gave me a sincere smile, one as bright as the stars in the sky, “you can't be too late, you won't be too late.” She placed her both hands on my shoulders, eyes filled with warmth, “you're going to save your mother, honey. Go home now and have some rest.”

Rather than resting, I knew I had to return home to surf the internet for more part-time jobs with a reasonable pay. I pulled away and nodded, “thank you, Rosie. I'll be here first thing tomorrow morning.”

With the last dollar in my wallet, I boarded a taxi and told him the address of my home. It was strange how a few students were having fun at the prom and I was having to deal with my shitty and pathetic life. Even though it was almost midnight, the streets still bustled with life and a few restaurants were yet to close for the day.

The driver pulled up before my apartment and I sighed, wondering when it would be over. As soon as I paid the taxi driver, I realized there was a familiar figure standing before my door. Broad shoulders, tall athletic legs clad in black tailored pants. I'd have said it was Lucas, but he was clad in a blue tuxedo, not black.

And if it wasn't Lucas, who was he?

How did he find my home address?

I took a few steps backwards as he advanced towards me, his magnetic eyes never leaving mine. My eyes trailed towards the right and I realized there was a sleek black car parked over there—which was obviously his, and when I turned back to stare at him, I realized the color of his eyes—green.

He looked the same as Lucas, but his eyes were different. He was the different triplet, the deadly and unbothered one who barely showed his emotions to the world. Girls were terrified of him, but they still fawned over him. I didn't know if it was the mate bond, but I suddenly couldn't look away from him.

“I've been waiting for you, Annalise.” He whispered, trailing my cheeks with the tip of his cold fingers, “you kept me waiting for hours.”

“What do you want?” I whispered back, taking another step backwards.

His lips curled into a small smirk, “Isn't that obvious? I'm here to claim what's mine. My mate.”

LANDON’S POVI snow very wide once I spotted her walking out of the house. My eyes instinctively traveled to the window I’d only climbed out of moments ago. She rolled her eyes as she waited while a taxi shuttled down the street at the pace of a constipated sloth. I jumped out of the car and went round to the passenger side of the car to hold the door open for her. “You changed your mind, huh?” I teased. “My mum saw you, Landon. And I have a feeling she didn’t do that by accident. How else could she have missed the flashy teal colored sports car parked across the street,” she answered with heavy sarcasm. I shut the door and climbed back into the car after her. “Did she now? I thought she’d have known me already from our previous encounters.”“What previous encounters, Landon Wayne?” she queried, an eyebrow shut up in skepticism. “I may have left her a card or two back at the hospital,” I smiled sheepishly as I turned the keys in the ignition. Annalise looked at me like I’d ju

(ANNALISE’S POV)Landon flashed me his widest grin yet, his lips stretching as wide as a halved saucer. “What are you..?” I began asking. But he put a finger against his lips and gestured for me to let him in. I looked over my shoulder in a moment of contemplation and rolled my eyes before lifting the window open. I stepped out of the way as he floated into the room with practiced ease. How many windows had he climbed through in the past? For a weirdly inexplicable reason, I found myself jealous that he’d been climbing down other windows other than mine. “Hey, gorgeous,” he smiled, his eyes doing very little yet pinning me to the spot. “Miss me?” he smirked, his voice low and deeper than usual. I rolled my eyes and turned around. “You shouldn’t be here, you know? My mum’s in the house.” I paused. “Thank you.”Landon strode over to me and took both my hands, kissing the insides of my palms while he pinned my eye with his. “Anything for you, princess.”I fought hard against the but

(ANNALISE’S POV)Everything happened as if scripted in a movie. Miranda and her cohorts were sent off to the principal’s office. Jeffery got suspended for stealing and damaging school property. He also got suspended with Marie for conniving to harm another student —an indefinite suspension that would see them stay away from school until our final exams.Miranda and her close-knit clique got off way too easy for my liking —but I wasn’t surprised. She was a Smith and her friends belonged to some of the other powerful families who were on the school’s board. They were punished with detention time for the rest of their senior year and instructed to stay away from me at all times. Not like Miranda could be restrained anyway.I let out a sigh as I flopped down on my bed after class. Everyone looked at me with a new sense of respect. I saw it in their eyes as all three Wayne brothers marched behind me on the way back from the basketball court.Lucas had to leave for soccer practice after sch

(ANNALISE’S POV)I struggle to process the information as it came, like a weird sci-fi movie with an insane plotline that managed to confuse and intrigue me all at once.It all made sense. Miranda’s threat and sudden decision to keep her distance from me. Marie’s coldness and collaboration with the enemy. “She went off to use the bathroom,” Lucas answered Landon. “But now you asked I think I recall she was texting on the way there.”“Anna, go check the ladies bathroom. I’ll go check the classroom. Lucas you.. I don’t know. Both of you go look for her in other places I guess,” Landon said as he rose to his feet.I walked down to the bathroom, my eyes peeled out for any sign of Miranda or Marie. The bathroom stalls were empty. I felt a mix of relief and disappointment as I double-checked each stall to be sure. Nothing.I retraced my steps back to the cafeteria and bumped into Landon on the way.“Hey. Any luck in your end?” I asked.“No sign of her…” he was still saying when I felt that

  • Forbidden entanglement; Torn between the triplet Alphas.   Chapter 43

LANDON’S POVI’d always known something wasn’t right. “Why are we going to the cafeteria? I’m gonna get in more trouble.. Wait. First of, why can I hear your voices in my head?” Annalise dropped a flurry of questions, her heart racing as I led her by the hand down the hallway.“I’ll explain when we get to the cafeteria,” i answered without stopping.“No,” she sapped in response, and snatched her hand out of mine. Logan sidestepped quickly to avoid bumping into her. He flashed her a little frown as he continued ahead before coming to a stop at the end of a corner.“I’m tired of just listening to anyone. Why did you threaten the principal back there? You realize I’m not as privileged as you are…”“You worry too much, Anna. I’ll fix everything. That’s my headache. In the meantime, we need to make whoever’s responsible for those photos leaking pay. And I-we..,” I corrected myself, “might have an idea who to ask.”“How’s that?” she asked with a quizzical look.“When we get to the café we’

  • Forbidden entanglement; Torn between the triplet Alphas.   Chapter 42

LUCAS’S POVI knew my brothers had things under control in the principal’s office, but I couldn’t help but worry for Anna. Of course, all it’d take was a letter—never a phone call—from my father and everything would be wiped clean off her slate.I’d seen the photos myself. As hard as I tried to believe otherwise, I knew Landon could pull off a stunt like that—sneaking into Annalise’s room. In fact, all three of us had our ways, even with Madame Constance’s show of strict discipline. But I just couldn’t imagine him taking a picture of himself and Annalise in compromising positions. He knew better. Our father warned us against drawing unnecessary attention to ourselves. It was already enough that we were supernaturals attending a normie school.I had these and many other thoughts swirling around in my head as I walked out of one classroom and into the next, for industrial chemistry class.Miranda perched by my arm as was her usual habit, her cheeriness a little sickening.“Look at tho
