Annalise

Everyone once had their traumatizing moment, and mine was just about to begin. Leaning on the creamy, white hospital wall, I watched as my mother battled for her own life, connected to a series of tubes and breathing machines. She just lay there, eyes closed, skin pale and faintly purple, having to exist was so much pain for her.

The machines made slight beeping sounds, and each time I remembered that she had to depend on them to survive, it was enough to crumble the remnants of my world. “Isn't there something you can do?” Rosie wrapped my shoulders as I stared at the doctor, trying hard to remain sane, “stabilize her condition for a few more weeks, I need to raise the money. Please.”

Rosie forced me to stare at her, “how about you return home to relax, honey? Let Mr. Jones and I figure this out.”

I shook my head, pushing her hands away. Something deep down told me they weren't telling the truth, it was written all over the doctor—Mr. Jones’s—face. Swallowing hard, I clutched my dress and exhaled loudly, “Is there something you're not telling me?”

“Anna–”

“Tell me the truth!” I snapped, fighting the burning ache in my chest. It was all too much to handle, but I couldn't show a sign of weakness in front of them. I had to show them I could handle my problems. Dr Jones turned to face me, his expression a mix of worry and hesitation, “apart from the money needed for your mother's surgery, she would need a kidney donor. Her other one is failing as well”

I shook my head and took a step backwards, “no.”

Rosie held me in place, wrapping her arms around me as I choked out a sob, “this can't be happening, it can't be happening. Tell me you're lying, please! Tell me she's going to wake up!” I cried out, trying to wriggle out of Rosie's grasp. A tear slipped down my cheeks as I felt my defensive walls crumbling. A part of me shattered into a thousand pieces when Mr. Jones blurted out the news.

My mother needed a donor and a whole lot of money to survive. I had none. my part-time jobs could only sustain her for a while, and it would take half a year to gather up money for her treatment. I hugged Rosie, wetting her white clothes with my tears, “I can't do this anymore, she's in pain.”

“Your mother's proud of you, honey.” Rosie's soft voice grazed my ears as she led me out of the ward, “you are strong, you have to be strong for your mother. No one else can save her but you.”

“And what if I'm too late?”

Rosie's face fell, but she still gave me a sincere smile, one as bright as the stars in the sky, “you can't be too late, you won't be too late.” She placed her both hands on my shoulders, eyes filled with warmth, “you're going to save your mother, honey. Go home now and have some rest.”

Rather than resting, I knew I had to return home to surf the internet for more part-time jobs with a reasonable pay. I pulled away and nodded, “thank you, Rosie. I'll be here first thing tomorrow morning.”

With the last dollar in my wallet, I boarded a taxi and told him the address of my home. It was strange how a few students were having fun at the prom and I was having to deal with my shitty and pathetic life. Even though it was almost midnight, the streets still bustled with life and a few restaurants were yet to close for the day.

The driver pulled up before my apartment and I sighed, wondering when it would be over. As soon as I paid the taxi driver, I realized there was a familiar figure standing before my door. Broad shoulders, tall athletic legs clad in black tailored pants. I'd have said it was Lucas, but he was clad in a blue tuxedo, not black.

And if it wasn't Lucas, who was he?

How did he find my home address?

I took a few steps backwards as he advanced towards me, his magnetic eyes never leaving mine. My eyes trailed towards the right and I realized there was a sleek black car parked over there—which was obviously his, and when I turned back to stare at him, I realized the color of his eyes—green.

He looked the same as Lucas, but his eyes were different. He was the different triplet, the deadly and unbothered one who barely showed his emotions to the world. Girls were terrified of him, but they still fawned over him. I didn't know if it was the mate bond, but I suddenly couldn't look away from him.

“I've been waiting for you, Annalise.” He whispered, trailing my cheeks with the tip of his cold fingers, “you kept me waiting for hours.”

“What do you want?” I whispered back, taking another step backwards.

His lips curled into a small smirk, “Isn't that obvious? I'm here to claim what's mine. My mate.”

LANDON’S POV“What was that?” I squinted my eyes at him, barely concealing my anger. Logan looked at me like I’d just asked the most ridiculous question ever. “What do you think? I just asked our mate to be my date to the end of year party. Got a problem with that?”“Guys, let’s not do this,” Annalise implored gently. Normally, I’d have listened to her. I didn’t want things to go more sour between us than they already were. But my brother was clearly doing everything he could to spite me. We were born like that—with a natural tendency for rivalry against each other. My mother said we’d been born with Logan holding firmly to my ankle on the way out of her womb. If I hadn’t come out first he’d have been first. So even before we were born, we’d been competing against each other. “Actually, I do have a problem with that, Logan,” I stated bluntly, my tone short and clipped. “Well, that really isn’t my business,” Logan answered dismissively. “So, Anna, love.. What’s it gonna be? Will y

LANDON’S POVI couldn’t concentrate the whole time. I stole occasional glances at Annalise who seemed to be oblivious to the turmoil she’d flung me into by walking away from me earlier. I’d shouldered the weight of my father’s message by myself the whole time. It’d always been like that. I was going to take over after my father and so it came with a pressure to always live by his books. But I’d been on a rebellious streak lately, at least for as long as we’d been away from home. It as my idea to leave home for the normal world, to go to high school with normal kids. I wanted to spite my father—and I succeeded. Now, he’d held me by the scruff of my neck, knowing I believed too much in my destiny to do otherwise. To become alpha king, I had to return home—with a mate. I sighed for the hundredth time, looking down at my wristwatch. Annalise was taking too long inside the classroom. Knowing her records, she was a straight ‘A’ student, and she never spent any more time than she had to

ANNALISE’S POVLandon never fully explained what the situation was with his father. He avoided the topic completely on most occasions and gave very offhanded explanations when he did attempt to answer my questions. But he couldn’t hide the worry eating away at his subconscious. I could see it whenever I looked at him, like a yellow speck in the middle of the beautiful green of his eyes. The exams dragged along to the final day and everyone was filled with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. I pressed my books on my chest and shut my eyes as I leaned backwards against the locker. “Hey, pretty face,” a voice interrupted me from up close, startling me in the process. “Logan?” I squinted my eyes in surprise. “Sorry. Did I scare you?” he smiled softly. “Did you? You’re the mind reading supernatural being here so why don’t you tell me,” I rolled my eyes. “You’ve grown quite the sharp tongue,” Logan commented with a playful smirk. We’d barely spoken a word to each other since the las

(ANNALISE’S POV)I gulped nervously my throat drying up rapidly. Hard as I tried to answer the teacher who’d begun approaching my desk, I just couldn’t get my tongue to work. While I was still thinking, I heard the sound of an object hit the floor by foot. A pen—Landon’s pen. He nodded at me reassuringly and turned to face the approaching teacher. “She was saying that I’d dropped my pen, sir,” Landon offered. “What?” the teacher frowned in a mix of confusion and disbelief. “I dropped my pen and she pointed it out to me. That’s what hat happened, isn’t it, Annalise?” Landon asked, rising from his seat to pick the pen. “Umm.. yeah. That’s what I was trying to say,” I stuttered nervously. The teacher squints his eyes at us skeptically, his eyes assessing us with utmost scrutiny before he pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose. “Be more quiet about that in the future, Annalise, and Mr. Wayne do well to hold on to your writing materials in my hall. I hope I’ve made myself

(ANNALISE’S POV)The air was still and quiet for a moment that stretched for an eternity. Logan’s eyes were squinting shut in rage, while Lucas held on a confused expression. Landon looked calm—too calm for the situation I’d just thrown him into. It felt like looking at a three way monitor showing the same person with the red different facial expressions. I felt a wave of goosebumps sprout along my forearm. Landon let out a sigh and turned to face me. “You shouldn’t have said that, Anna?”Logan didn’t seem to take his fist statement in to heat of the tendon so well. “What do you mean she shouldn’t have said that? What’s your problem? Why do you always feel special like you’re better than the both of us?”“Logan, we don’t have to do this here. Not in front of her,” Lucas leaned into his brother, trying to keep his voice down towards the last statement. “But I haven’t said anything wrong no ow, have I?” Logan cut in. Lucas slowly turned to face Landon and I. “Well if you haven’t mar

LANDON’S POVI snow very wide once I spotted her walking out of the house. My eyes instinctively traveled to the window I’d only climbed out of moments ago. She rolled her eyes as she waited while a taxi shuttled down the street at the pace of a constipated sloth. I jumped out of the car and went round to the passenger side of the car to hold the door open for her. “You changed your mind, huh?” I teased. “My mum saw you, Landon. And I have a feeling she didn’t do that by accident. How else could she have missed the flashy teal colored sports car parked across the street,” she answered with heavy sarcasm. I shut the door and climbed back into the car after her. “Did she now? I thought she’d have known me already from our previous encounters.”“What previous encounters, Landon Wayne?” she queried, an eyebrow shut up in skepticism. “I may have left her a card or two back at the hospital,” I smiled sheepishly as I turned the keys in the ignition. Annalise looked at me like I’d ju
