Forced Marriage: My Mother’s Secret

It’s Christmas Eve and the Williams mansion is illuminated with Christmas decorations and presents.

Everyone is back home in high spirit to celebrate Christmas with family except Nathaniel who is probably waisted somewhere with his friends and numerous girlfriends.

Nathaniel Williams is the son to the president of Williams enterprise and he’s the head of all the other side illegal businesses of his father. His father fears that if he will not settle down with a humble good housewife, their business will be exposed due to his mumbling intoxicated self around his good for nothing girlfriends.

Although Mr Williams doesn’t have a good relationship with his son, he sure trust him with his illegal businesses because he knows how to get the job done.

Mr Williams forced his only 28 year old son into marring an 18 year old high school graduate Angela Baker, with no class and hope for the future for his selfish reasons. Like they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. There’s tension in the house because Mr Jackson Williams is upset with Nathan who is nowhere to be seen or heard. Knowing very well how his son is inconsiderate and self centered, he was hoping for him to spend Christmas with them considering that he’s now a married man who should be at home with his family and his new wife during this festive season.

It’s Angel Baker’s first Christmas with her new family and she feels so strange and alone. No one in the family likes her except for Mr Williams, both His Wife Anne and his daughter Natalie don’t support the marriage because they feel Angela is an ugly fat girl with no fashion sense from a low class who can never fit in and will only embarrass the family with her lack of class and etiquette.

Natalie is Nathaniel’s twin sister and she’s home for the holidays with her fiancé Philip who is an heir to the throne of the Lewanika Kingdom in the western part of the country. She just graduated fashion school in France with her father still thinking she’s doing law like she was told for the benefits of the family and their businesses at the back of her mind.

“Dad, you need to come down, please think about your health, I’m sure Nathan is on his way you know how business gets in the Copperbelt at this time of the year. let me call his best friend Ben he might know where he is”

Mr Williams has hard it with Nathaniel and if he’s not going to put his foot down, his name will be tarnished and he will lose his businesses to his competitors.

“Darling let’s go upstairs you rest for a while it’s past midnight. Look at what you are doing to yourself and it’s not as if Nathan has been spending Christmas with us for the last 4 years”

“Shut up Anne! You think I don’t know that? Don’t you realize that he has a wife now? When is your son ever going to grown up? Look at Angela, oh!poor child.”

“Well, you are to blame, our son told you he wasn’t ready to settle down especially with that low class dirty fat girl.”

“ I said shut up! Anne you have no right to say that about Angela, remember where I picked you up from?”

“Okay, okay, Enough Jackson! you don’t speak to your wife like that in front of people, Let’s go to bed now you are really tired”

Natalie calls Ben to find out what’s going on with Nathan and why is phone not going through, it’s really unlike him.

“Hello, Ben! Sorry for calling you this time, Are you with Nathan?

“Hi, Natalie, No Nathan was arrested around about 4 hours ago.”

“What happened? Why didn’t you inform us?”

“I’m not sure yet but I’m trying to get him released.”

“What happened to your brother Nat?” Anne tries inquire about his son.

“Just a minute mum.”

“Oh, okay call me if you need anything.”

“Is your father there I think we can use with his connection?”

“Yah he’s here, I will tell him.”

“Okay then bye.”

“Bye.”

“Nathalie! what did he say?”

“Nathan was arrested 4 hours ago.” [sighs]

“What? My son! Who dared to get my son arrested? Darling you need to do something.”

“I’m going to bed.” Mr. Williams tired of his son’s behavior and this time around he plans on letting him dance to the music.

“Darling didn’t you hear what Natalie just said? We need to get our son out of jail please”

“Dad!”

Mr Williams goes to bed without saying a word feeling disappointed yet again, he knows his son very well and this is not the first time he’s found himself in such kind of trouble. If it’s not drugs, then it’s fighting and Mr Williams is tired of his Son’s immaturity that’s why he forced him to settle down so that maybe he can become responsible.

“Mum come down! I will fly there first thing tomorrow morning with Philip and Ben to get him out.”

Anne is upset that her husband isn’t paying attention to his son’s predicament, Anne has spoiled her Twins such that they get into trouble and get away with it knowing Daddy and mummy will be there to clean up the mess.

“Yes, Mrs Williams, we will do everything we can to get him out”

“Is Ben in Lusaka?”

“Yes, he came back yesterday.”

“Thanks Philip. Nat what did Nathan do, who did he beat up this time?”

“No one mum, it was just a misunderstanding between him and the Golden days hotel manager.”

“Now go and get some rest I will bring him home.

good night mum”

“Please bring your brother home. Good night baby”

“Good night Mrs Williams.”

“Good night Philip.”

“Good night mother-in-law.”

“Mrs Williams! It’s Mrs Williams to you Angela.”

“Sorry madam ! Mrs Williams”

Angela hasn’t been yet accepted by her mother-in-law and Sister- in -law, she feels invisible around them and there is nothing she can do but adjust to her new life. She couldn’t go back home nor divorce her new husband until she fulfills the agreement of giving the Williams an heir but how was she ever going to do it when her husband was never home and when he was, he despised her and felt disgusted every time he looked at her.

Her mother told her The William family are the ones paying for her father’s medical bills who’s suffering from colony cancer so she better behave and do as she’s told after all, marriage is not a bed of roses.

“Good night Miss Natalie, good night Prince Philip.”

“Angela, before you go can you give my fiancé and I something to eat we are starving”

“Yes, Miss Natalie.”

Nathan is been a nuisance in the police cells threatening and insulting the officers. He knows his father can never let him spend the whole night in police cells because of his selfish reasons.

The police have released Nathan by the General’s orders, they knew it was going to happen but they didn’t think it would be around 03.

“Mr Williams you are free to go please sign here for your items.”

“ I told you peasants that you were wasting your time and tell the arresting officer that he should thank his god for the Christmas spirit in me otherwise, he would have been retired on National interest.”

“Officer give Mr Williams his things.”

“Excuse me sir but who gets released at 03:00hrs? what does the law say?”

“Officer do you want to be retired on national interest or be transferred to some village?”

“No Sir!”

“Good, now stop wasting Mr Williams time.”
