Gia’s POV

I ran up the stairs so fast my legs hurt. The guards at the bottom were still watching me, trading looks I didn’t like, smirks like they’d just witnessed justice served.

Oh God.

Did that mean they heard?

Heat rushed to my cheeks. Embarrassment slammed into me so hard my stomach turned. I clutched the railing and kept moving, refusing to look back.

The hallway upstairs seemed to stretch on forever, wide and lined with door after door, each one identical enough to confuse me. My heart pounded faster, my breathing ragged, but I caught sight of the familiar one. My fingers fumbled at the handle before I pushed it open, slipped inside, slammed it shut, and hurried to my bed.

I yanked the duvet over my head, trying to block everything out and hide from the world, but it couldn’t hide me from myself, from the shame or the guilt pressing heavy against my chest.

My eyes burned, and the tears came fast. My mind wouldn’t stop replaying what happened in Dante’s office.

  • Forced To Be The Mafia King's Bride   Chapter 30: Touched By Him In My Dress

Gianna's POV"Dante, I'm serious…" My voice came out breathy, already betraying the effect he had on me."You've been in here for over two hours, pretty doll," he said. He kept coming, and I found myself backing up instinctively until I hit the mirror, the cool glass pressing against my bare shoulders, sending a shiver down my spine. "I got impatient.""Where's Arielle? If she comes back and sees you…""She's safe in the bathroom. Bruno's standing guard like his life depends on it." His eyes never left mine as he prowled closer, eating up the distance between us. "Which it does. I had to seize this moment."My heart was pounding now, a frantic rhythm against my ribs. I could feel the heat of him even though he wasn't touching me yet, could smell his cologne, that dark, expensive scent of musk and cedar that always made me dizzy. "You left your daughter to come spy on me?""I left my daughter in the most secure bathroom in the city to come see my future wife." He stopped just in front

Gianna's POV"As a DeLuca bride, you must outshine everyone," the head stylist said for the third time, her voice breathless with excitement. "Signor DeLuca has given us carte blanche. Whatever you desire, we'll make it happen.""We can custom-make anything," another assistant chimed in. "Any design, any fabric. We have the finest lace from Belgium, silk from….""Perhaps we should start with what we have?" I suggested gently, overwhelmed by their enthusiasm. They brought out dress after dress. Beaded creations that weighed more than I did. Sleek modern gowns that were out of this world. For the next hour, I became a living doll. They dressed me and redressed me, one gown after another, until I was finally squeezed into a ball gown so full and heavy I could barely move in it.Arielle sat cross-legged on the sofa, acting as my junior fashion consultant. "That one makes you look like a cupcake," she declared about the puffy ball gown.I laughed, catching Dante's daughter's eye in the mir

  • Forced To Be The Mafia King's Bride   Chapter 128: A Better Start

Gianna's POVI stood in front of the three-way mirror, studying my reflection as the designer's assistant adjusted the pins in my hair. The boutique was elegant, with cream walls. The kind of place that screamed old money and exclusivity. My body buzzed with nerves. Not just about dress shopping. About what had to happen first.Through the mirror, I could see Arielle sitting on one of the velvet chairs behind me, her hands folded in her lap. She looked nervous too. Good. At least I wasn't the only one.Dante stood by the window, phone pressed to his ear, speaking in rapid Italian. Even from here, I could see the tension in his shoulders. His men were positioned throughout the boutique, Bruno by the door, two more outside, and I'd spotted at least one on the rooftop across the street when we'd arrived.Overkill, maybe. But I understood it now, after what he'd told me about the kidnapping."Miss Deluca?" The assistant smiled at me. "We're ready whenever you are."I blinked, momentarily

  • Forced To Be The Mafia King's Bride   Chapter 127: Mending Bridges

Dante's POVMy eyes searched Gianna’s face and found sincerity, the way she was trying to reach my daughter, trying to be part of this family. The fear was still there, but I had to admit she was right. Gianna had always wanted us to go shopping, see the world like a normal family, she'd always said, and I'd never allowed it. This would be a good way to draw her closer. And she was right, I had the best security money could buy. Men who would die before letting anything happen to Ariel.I tried one last time to get out of it.“I’d only allow it if I came along. But I have a long list of approvals to get through, and they all relate to the wedding.”I pointed at the documents scattered across the surface.“I can’t just drop everything to go shopping, no matter how important it is. That’s why it makes more sense for the designer to come to you. It’s a win-win.”"We need your guards," she said. "You don't have to come. You're not meant to see the dress before the day anyway."“Like hell,

  • Forced To Be The Mafia King's Bride   Chapter 126: I Will Not Fail My Daughter

Dante's POV"An idea?" I leaned back in my chair, trying to look casual even though I was curious about whatever she was about to suggest."Instead of having her come here tomorrow," she said, circling around the desk slowly, "Ariel and I could go to the designer’s store together. We could both choose the dress. Make it a bonding day."Before she could get too close, I pulled back. Every protective instinct I had roared awake. My body went rigid."No.""Dante, listen…""I said no, Gianna."She did not back down. Of course she did not. Stubborn woman."If we are going to get along, we need to spend time together."She closed the distance in one determined step, standing between my legs and forcing my eyes up to her. Having her that close did things to me I did not want to deal with. Her scent, the warmth of her skin, the way her dress framed her curves. Every part of me reacted at once, heat shooting through my veins."And shopping for dresses sounds like something she would enjoy. She

Dante's POVI shot Bruno a hard look, barely holding myself together."What was so urgent that you could not wait for me to come down?" I muttered, not bothering to face him.I pushed away from the door and started down the room."Apologies, Don." He followed behind me, his heavy steps scraping at my nerves. "I need you to sign off on some of the guests for tomorrow."Gianna stayed behind me, sliding her hands into her hair, her skin still flushed from everything that had almost happened.Behind me, her voice came out confused. "What is happening tomorrow?"I ignored her. Bruno handed me his tablet. I scrolled through the guest list and the timeline. In our world, there had to be an engagement party where all the leading clans and a few selected people were invited. Then the Mafia King introduced his betrothed to them before the wedding. It was tradition. A show of unity and power.I had not told Gianna because I did not want her looking for reasons to postpone things."Has everyone b
