The first thing I noticed the seconds the doors opened was how quite the dining room was. Any room Dante and Elijah are in would usually be quiet until everyone invited to the gathering or the meeting show up and find their places, but this was a different kind of quiet. It's as if every single person knew there was a deeper issue in the web that we needed to fight, and none of them would risk drawing any kind of attention towards themselves in fear that they might risk angering Dante.

I realized too late that it was a bad idea to bring Eza here with me. I should have convinced her to stay home where she would be safe. Heck, I should have listened to my guts earlier and decided not to show up to the gathering myself. I didn't like how stiff everything felt, starting from the heavy security Dante had placed in and out of the villa to the heavy silence in the dining room.

"Come on." I whispered to Eza before I led her towards the usual spot I would be sitting at.
