Jessica's Pov.
It was ten pm and that ended my shift, my phone started vibrating in my back pocket adding to my anxiety.
"Jess, can you stay until Becky comes?" My boss called and I shook my head, taking my phone from my back pocket. It was Willow, my little sister.
Shit.
"I can't, I really have to go now" I dismissed politely but judging from the angry scowl on her face she wasn't pleased with my reply.
"It's obvious you don't value this job, maybe you should stay at home tomorrow or for the rest of the week" She threatened.
"You know I can't do that-"
"Then stay until Becky comes" She snapped, my phone had stopped ringing but I knew that was even worse, every single second I spent here something horrible might be happening to Willow at home.
I removed my apron and dropped it on the counter, taking the hundred-dollar bill there before heading for the door. My boss cursed loudly as I shut the door.
I can always find another job but I can't ignore my little sister.
I found a taxi and soon we were in front of my uncle's wretched bungalow. After paying I rushed inside my heart in my throat when I heard sobbing coming from inside the house and pushed the door open.
Willow was on the ground, her glasses broken next to her, my uncle was taking off his belt, my eyes caught her phone scattered on the ground close to the wall.
Anger burned through my veins.
"What is going on here?" I demanded and he turned to me with his face red, he had that unhinged look in his eyes and I swallowed my anger turning into fear but I lifted my chin.
I would rather die than let him touch her, she is just thirteen.
"You finally decided to show up, you dirty slut! Where are you coming from?!" He barked, diverting his attention towards me, which was good. I don't mind getting beaten with his belt but I don't want him hitting Willow.
"I'm coming back from work" I replied looking at Willow. I tried signaling her to run to the room while he's focused on me but she was still searching for her broken glasses with her hands.
"Work? Dressed like that! You think I don't know what you're doing? I shouldn't have taken you and this parasite in if I had known you both take after your slut of a mother" He spat in disgust and I swallowed a heavy lump in my throat reaching for Willow.
The belt landed on my back and I winced tears blurring my vision, but I was still determined to get Willow out of his sight. I didn't stop and that seemed to annoy him more.
"Where do you think you are going to?" He yanked my hair dragging me back, I screamed as I fell on shards of glass on the floor, the pieces piercing my skin.
"Jessica!" Willow called out in panic. The sound of the belt hitting the ground made me snap out of my misery rushing to shield Willow on the ground, she wrapped her hands around me crying.
"Shut your useless mouth!" He hissed then his phone started ringing in his pocket.
"Give it to me" He commanded and I was about to ask what when he shot me a dangerous glare.
I reached for the money in my pocket and handed the hundred-dollar bill to him. He left after that and I took Willow back to our room. She refused to stop crying no matter what I said to her.
"Are we going to keep living like this? He's insane, he would kill us one day" She lamented and I sighed even if that happens I will make sure she survives instead even though I loathe the thought of being separated from her.
That's the reason why I haven't reported my uncle for abuse, the foster system is worse than this sometimes and I'm sure as hell not going to let anyone take my little sister away from me. She's all I have and after our parents' death, she has never been the same.
"You shouldn't have left the room, I told you to stay inside and lock the door" I scolded, the words left a bitter taste on my tongue and she scoffed.
"It's not my fault, he burst the door open asking for you and I tried explaining that you were still at work but he didn't listen he dragged me downstairs and threw me on the ground... I- I was so scared" She broke down again and I wrapped my arms around her patting her back.
"It's okay, I'm sorry for not coming on time. Just give me this month I already saved enough for the apartment" I lied sheepishly.
I don't have enough for the apartment, that's the reason I'm still here. My uncle found where I hid my savings and took everything. I can't even call him out on it because I'm afraid of what he would do and he might use it as an excuse to kick us out.
"I hate Uncle Austin" Willow seethed and I nodded.
Me too.
I couldn't find anything decent to make a meal in the fridge so I made a sandwich instead and gave it to Willow, just as I was cleaning up the mess he had made before he left.
The door burst open and I flinched in shock when three men walked in, they had intimidating heights all of them dressed in black suits.
My eyes widened when I saw the gun tucked in one of the men's waistbands.
The broom in my hand fell and I started moving backward.
"Search the house" The one with the gun ordered and the rest walked past me scattering everything, I quickly rushed to where Willow was sitting holding her tight while they ransacked the house searching for God knows what.
Are they my uncle's friends?
What are they looking for?
Should I stop them? I don't even know what to do or say, the best I can do is keep my mouth shut so they don't notice me.
"The bastard is nowhere to be found,"
They said as they returned and the man turned to us.
"Take them to the car"
EIGHTY THREE: JESSICA'S POV. The whole class went silent. Everyone widened their eyes in shock including Dora. Fiona's laughter died instantly, her face looked like she had seen a ghost. Andra smirked on the other hand, her face looked like she had just won a lottery. "Should I repeat myself?" She asked, her face going back to being cold. Fiona blinked rapidly, her breath became intense. "What..... what are you talking about?" She managed to whisper, her voice trembled so hard. "But, let me have mercy for you, maybe next time, but anytime you try to bully Jessica again then I will tell everyone how you got pregnant for a mere taxi driver just because he promised to drive you for free. The student started murmuring, some exchanged quick glances. They were all whispering something I can't hear. I just sat staring at them.Fiona was about to say something but the lecturer entered, she just kept the phone on my desk and left. I could see how ashamed she wa
EIGHTY TWO: JESSICA'S POV Have you ever been in a condition where you are alone, you haven't heard from your husband for days and your friends didn't want to have anything to do with you. Well that is the condition I'm in now. I have been alone since that day when they came to my house, they didn't want to speak to me, and when I tried speaking to them, they would ignore me. Lucian on the other hand hasn't called or even bothered to answer my calls, or even reply to my messages. I don't know but at this point I'm going crazy."Did you know where my sister’s school is?" I asked the driver and he nodded. Don't judge me, Lucian never allowed me to go there, he always said that my sister is okay and I believed him, I trusted him. But today was different, I wanted to go and see her. She was the only person that I have now even though the distance was much. I wanted to see her, at least it will make me have some peace, to make me feel wanted again. "Take
EIGHTY ONE: JESSICA'S POV"What did you just say?" I found myself asking again because those words hit me at the right spot. But she just crossed her arms, repeating what she said. "I don't know what Lucian found in you, you are so classless and a way out of his league" my stomach twisted at her statement. The whole restaurant went silent, that moment that even the sound of a pin fell on the floor it can be heard. But before I could react, Andra stood up from her chair so fast that it scraped loudly against the floor. "Excuse me?" She snapped, her eyes were burning with rage."You should tell her...." But stopped when a heavy slap landed on her cheek, everyone gasped in shock because it was so loud, I'm sure she could taste her blood from it.I froze, my heart was already pounding but Andra wasn’t having any of it."And who the hell are you deciding that?" Andra barked. "You serve food, not judgments. So stop acting like a rejected sacrifice and go face y
EIGHTY: JESSICA'S POV The class didn't end fast. The lecturer talked for three whole hours without stopping, and I wondered if his mouth wasn't paining him. Everyone looked half dead, some slumped over their desks, but no one dared make a sound. Professor Franklin wasn't someone to mess with, all we could do is just yawn loudly. "So with this, the class has come to an e......" The student didn't allow him to finish before they started packing with a relief in their face like they were prisoners who have been released. "Oh, my holy cow! Finally, this damn class is over" Andra groaned, tossing her book into her bag. I almost slept off here. If not for Jason who is always a bug in my body" Joan laminated, she dramatically stretched her arms.Jason who was beside her smirked. "You should thank me. I kept you awake with my handsome face""Handsome face?" She snorted. "You mean your constant talking? You talked more than the lecturer himself!"Andra just l
SEVENTY NINE: LUCIAN POV I left the mansion Jessica was in, long before the day could break, before the sunrise. The air outside was still cold enough to sting into my skin, it looked like the sky was holding its storm, the clouds were moving like it wanted to run but I cared not. Gray had called earlier, his voice was shaking when he told me "The Mafia God wants your presence" I already knew that killing Hex wasn’t something I could just walk away from. But I didn’t regret it... not for a moment. I drove through the empty streets, only the sound of my engine echoing off the walls of the city were heard. My mind was blank, but my heart was otherwise. The only thing that hurt me was Jessica denying me, I felt hurt that I have never felt for a long time. Gray was already waiting for me the underground warehouse. I knew he haven't slept the moment I saw him. His skin looked pale, dry lips with his eyes that had written fears. I wondered why he was l
SEVENTY EIGHT: JESSICA'S POV The next morning was slow, the birds outside made it hard for me to sleep, or should I say I was unable to sleep because Lucian didn't want to talk to me. He didn't even sleep on the same bed with me and I don’t know if he slept here in this mansion or slept outside. I stood up when I finally got the strength, my eyes were swollen and it was all because of him. I didn’t sleep because I was thinking of him. I really want him to give me listening ears but he was just too angry to do so. I walked weakly to the bathroom, put on the shower and just stood there like a statue. The water was pouring on my body like rain but I didn’t care. After when it seemed like forever, I finally came out of the bathroom, I quickly wore his clothes, a Gray shirt with Blue jean, it looked baggy in my body but at least it fitted me. I can wear it to the lecture hall right? Soon, I heard a knock on the door making my heart to skip instantly, wha
