DANTE’S POV

I sit in my study with a glass of whiskey I haven’t touched. It’s 3:17AM.

I lay my phone face down on the desk. I’ve flipped it over about a hundred times in the past hour.

Nothing from her yet.

Ricardo texted me when they dropped her off. *She’s inside. Safe.*

Safe.

That word feels like a lie in my mouth, she’s anything but safe in that house. But she asked for space and I have to give her that.

Now the whole house feels like a tomb.

I stand and pace to the

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER FIFTY ONE: THE WEDDING

Lena’s POV *The night before the wedding.* The past seven days have been nothing but chaos. From flower arrangements, to last-minute dress fittings, to arguing about security perimeters, and now it’s all about to be over. I stare at my wedding dress as it hangs on my wardrobe door. I can’t even believe it, tomorrow I’m getting married. Tomorrow I walk down the aisle and promise my life to the man I intend to spend forever with. So why does it feel like something’s missing? The thought then hits me, it’s my Dad. The fact that he won’t be there and he’ll never be there for every milestone I make. I can just picture it, the way he would have stood at the back of the church, arms crossed, glaring at Dante like he was going to shoot him if he hurt me. The way he would have cried during the vows and pretended he had something in his eye. “Stupid,” I whisper to the empty room. “You’re being stupid.” I’m not weak. But sitting here alone with the dress and th

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER FIFTY: NEW BEGINNINGS

Lena’s POV The air in the room goes razor thin. My cheek is still burning where her hand landed. I can taste blood on my tongue. Dante storms into the room full of fury. “Touch my wife again,” he says. “And you walk out of here dead.” My mother freezes, her face instantly turning pale. For a second, I think she’s going to apologize. That she’ll see what she’s done. She doesn’t. “Excuse me?” she snaps, and the rage comes rushing back. “You don’t get to talk to me like that I am her mother. I have every right…” “Had,” Dante cuts in as he steps further into the room. “You had the right, but you gave it up the day you handed your daughter to a man who tried to put a bullet in her head.” “That wasn’t…” “That was exactly what it was.” Dante cuts her off. “Don’t lie to me, don’t lie to her and most especially don’t lie to yourself.” She flinches. “I raised her,” she says, her voice sounding defensive. “I bled for her. I….” “You bled for yourself,” I s

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER FORTY NINE: THE CONFRONTATION

Lena’s POV I move down the stairs, my legs shaking from how nervous I am. I may not know exactly what she wants to talk about, but I have a hunch it’s about Luciano. The moment I step into the living room, the air shifts. My mom stands at the front door. Her eyes are bloodshot and her mascara is running down her face. When she sees me, she crosses the room in three steps and grabs my arms. “How dare you!” Her voice cracks. “How dare…” she cuts off with a sob, shaking me. I jerk back out of her hold. “Mom, what are you talking about?” “You had no right to take Luciano from me.” She screams in my face. “YOU HEAR ME, NO RIGHT!!!” “He tried to kill me,” I say to her. “He tried to kill your daughter.” “He wouldn’t have!” She shakes her head, wildly. “That wasn't the plan.” The moment she says that something in me snaps. “Oh, so what was the plan, to tie me to a chair and traumatise me?” “No we jus….” “Or was your master plan to let him put a bullet in me

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT: THE RECOVERY

LENA’S POV I’m sitting on the floor outside Dante’s bedroom door with my knees pulled to my chest. Ricardo is leaning against the wall across from me, fully alert. Inside, the doctor is stitching Dante up. I can hear the low murmur of his voice. Shit, I can’t bear hearing the sounds of him in pain. Ricardo keeps glancing at me. “He’s gonna be fine, the doc said the bullet just grazed his stomach.” I nod, but I can’t stop my hand from shaking. His blood is all over my hands. Everything just feels so surreal, A few minutes ago I had a gun in my hands and I pulled the trigger at Luciano. My chest goes tight at the thought of what happened. I’m still finding it hard to believe Luciano would do something like this. He always showed my brother and me so much love growing up. I guess it was all lies. He just wanted revenge for a woman who never chose him and he was willing to use me to get it. The door opens and I’m on my feet before Ricardo can say anything. T

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN: HATCHING OLD SECRETS

LENA’S POV The tape over my mouth tastes like chemicals and blood. My wrists burn where the zip ties cut in and I can’t feel my legs. Luciano’s gun rests against my temple. I stare at Dante who is standing in the middle of the basement. His eyes solely planted on me. “Don’t move,” Luciano says. “Not one step, boy. Or I redecorate the walls with her.” Dante freezes. His jaw ticks. “Lena,” he breathes. I shake my head as hard as I can. Tears are already falling. I don’t know if it’s from pain or from seeing him here. Luciano chuckles. “Look at you, you came alone Just like I asked.” He gestures with the gun and two masked men step out of the shadows. They grab Dante’s arms, twist them behind his back. I hear the zip tie click. “No!” The sound comes out muffled through the tape. Dante doesn’t fight them. He looks at me the whole time. “Are you hurt?” he mouths. I nod once, everything hurts. They shove him t

Did she cry? Did she mean it when she said `“You were never who I thought you were.”` Fuck. I down the whiskey. It burns. I should go to her. Drive to the Virelli manor right now and kick down the gate and tell her we’ll figure it out. But she said she needed space. So I don’t go. I give her space. Even though it feels like cutting off my own arm. --- The sound of my phone ring
