LENA’S POV

The car slowly pulls up to wrought-iron gates covered in ivy, with a small brass plaque that says *La Scala Privata.*

My stomach drops.

“Why are we here?” I turn to Kovacs. “I thought we were going to a café.”

He’s already smiling, that infuriating half-smile that says he knew I’d say that.

“I wanted a more romantic atmosphere for the date,” he says.

“It’s not a date.”

“Keep telling yourself that,” he says, and he winks.

The driver taps something on the da

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER HUNDRED: ESCAPE ROUTE

LENA’S POV *ONE WEEK EARLIER* The cold floor wakes me up from my very uncomfortable sleep. I’ve noticed that every time I wake up down here, I can feel the cold air in my lungs and the cold silence that presses on my ears until I think I’m going deaf. I’m lying on my side and my wrists still ache from the cuffs even though they took them off three days ago. I stare at the ceiling, with nothing else to do but wallow in my pity. God, I wish things were different. For a minute I had it all. The perfect husband, A child, my title, and the family I always dreamed of having. And slowly I lost every single thing. Now I’m left with nothing but memories of a life I once envisioned. I just wish I could walk upstairs and find Dante in his office so I can argue with him and then kiss him and pretend none of this ever happened. I wish I could tell him I’m sorry. I didn’t know he was doing all that for me. A tear slips out before I can stop it. I wipe it away fast. I’m not doin

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER NINETY NINE: LOOSE ENDS

DANTE’S POV The sound of the gun is still ringing in my ears. *bang* For half a second nothing happens. The hallway is frozen. Diego’s eyes go wide with fear. Like he didn’t believe his own finger would do it. My arm jerks back. I look down and notice the bullet grazed me, right along the bicep. It didn’t bury just tore skin and muscle and left a line of red blooming down my white shirt. It’s bleeding. “Boss!” “Get down!” I hear my men shouting as they advance closer. “Who fired?!” Six of them burst through the corridor doors like hell broke open. Guns drawn, eyes scanning for a threat. And they see it. Diego with the gun still in his hand. Shaking. Staring at my arm like he just watched himself kill me. One of them, raises his weapon. “Put it down, kid.” “Don’t,” I say. My voice doesn’t sound like mine. He blinks. “Sir?” “I said don’t.” I take a step toward Diego. My blood drips and hits the marble. “Lower your weapons.”

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER NINETY EIGHT: LIKE ME

DANTE’S POV Diego continues moving. Like he didn’t just talk back to me. The sound of his shoes hitting the marble is too loud. It echoes down the corridor and sets my teeth on edge. “Diego.” My voice comes out flat. But he doesn’t stop. Anger hits me quickly. “Diego,” I say louder this time. He keeps walking, with his fist clenched at his side. He’s almost as tall as me now. Thirteen years old and already cutting into the air like he’s trying to be a man before his time. All those words he spewed sounded so much like her. Camila. God. I can hear her in him. Those venomous words she used to spew from her lips. She may be gone now, but she's still here, poisoning him from within his mind. What the hell did she tell him about me to make him act this way? “Is this how you’re going to protect her?” I call after him. “By walking away?” That instantly gets his attention. He stops so fast his whole body jerks. Then he turns. And the look on his face, Christ.

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER NINETY SEVEN: TAKING A STAND

LENA’S POV I hit the door with both of my fists, yelling and screaming for someone to let me out. “Let me out! Dante! Please!” My voice bounces back at me in the hollow room. No one comes. Of course no one is going to come what was I even thinking? I slide down the door until I’m on the floor. Knees to my chest. I can’t get enough air. The walls feel like they’re leaning in. What is he going to do? Dante doesn’t do “almost.” He doesn’t do “it meant nothing.” In his world, you look at what’s his and there’s a price. And I just betrayed him in the worst way possible, or did I even betray him? The word sits in my chest like glass. I didn’t kiss Kovacs. I swear I didn’t. He was just there, and I was tired, and I wanted five minutes where everything was just normal. But I stood there in our house. And I said it. *“Yes. I would have.”* Even if I didn’t mean it the way it sounded, it sounded like that. “God,” I whisper. “Please. Let everything be alright

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTERNINETY SIX: CAUSING HARM

DANTE’S POV I slam the door so hard the hinges rattle. The second I’m inside, everything boils up. I grab the first thing within reach and throw it. The glass shatters against the wall and amber liquor runs down the plaster like blood. I feel like a madman, enraged and desperate to get it all out. I grab the chair closest to me and flip it over without a second thought. All I can hear is her. *"Yes."* *"Yes, I would have kissed him."* I can't believe the woman I was willing to burn down the Commission for, the woman I would do anything for, literally, would stand there telling me she would cheat on me. My chest then caves in, and I grab the globe off my desk and hurl it. It dents the wall and falls. Betrayal. That’s what this is. Plain and simple. She can deny it all she wants but it won't change what it is. I pour myself a drink, standing in the middle of the wreckage with the glass in my hand. But it doesn’t help. I still feel the raw aching pain in

  • Forced bride of mafia king   CHAPTER NINETY FIVE: TOTURE

Lena’s POV It feels like my heart stops working for a second. Dante’s stands there with a pained expression on his face, and I think he might shoot me. Kovacs moves before I can, shielding me from Dante’s gun. "Lena," he says low, like he's trying to keep me safe. But I can’t focus on him, all my attention is set on Dante. Panic rises at the thought of what’s going through his head. He's already thinking the worst. I can see it all over his face. I duck out from behind Kovacs before he can stop me. "I'm fine," I tell Kovacs quickly, "Don't worry about me." Then I look at Dante and he doesn’t even spare me a second glance. He looks right past me like I'm nothing. And that hurts more than any gun could. "Dante," I whisper. "It's not…. It's not what it looks like." He doesn't blink, he ignores my existence completely. "Ricardo," he says. "Grab her. We're leaving." My stomach drops. "Look at me," I beg. "Please Dante,
