Chapter 10: Hired a new executive assistant

‘It would have been better if I stayed at home and dealt with my family than having to deal with him,’ Mabel muttered to herself as she walked on the sidewalk.

Not only was her mood ruined, but she didn’t get her coffee and now she wasn’t in the mood for it anymore.

Wanting to get her mind off what had just happened, she brought out her phone and proceeded to call someone she hadn’t heard from in four years, her grandparents.

Just like the last four years when she had tried to get in touch with them, the call didn’t go through and the guilt hit her once again as she was the reason why her life was in danger.

If they had just abandoned her after the death of their daughter, they would have led peaceful lives.

After her father made her leave the country, her grandparents kept in touch with her and sent her money for her upkeep. They were careful with it but somehow, her father found out and he was unhappy with it.

He said they were just spoiling her and that she wouldn’t be able to stand on her own but she knew he was unhappy because he wanted her to suffer and thanks to her grandparents, she was thriving.

After that, he cut off all means of communication she could use to contact them and he put them in a retirement home, one only he knew where it was.

Too bad her grandparents knew how Anthony was and already made provisions for whenever he would discover and they kept some sum of money with someone they trusted if things went south.

As soon as her father made them disappear, the money arrived and it was very helpful to her even up to this day.

While she was still deciding on her next line of action, she received a message from her father ordering her to get back home at once. ‘There goes my freedom,’ she sighed as she flagged down a taxi.

Christian arrived home at the Romero Mansion to have breakfast with his father and mainly to have a chat with his brother about what was going through Dorian’s head.

Thankfully, when he arrived at his parents’ mansion, his mother was out of town for an important meeting and this made him heave a sigh of relief as if she were there, she would have pestered him with the topic of settling down.

To his surprise, Dorian wasn’t there and he frowned a bit. While he was pondering where Dorian was, he walked in.

Reginald, Christian’s father who had no idea why Christian had come there, was cheerful and very happy to see both his sons home.

He had been waiting for Christian in particular so he could make fun of him as he had heard about the incident that happened to Christian from Dorian.

"So son..." Reginald cleared his throat after they had sat at the table. "I heard you got into a little argument last night and it led to you getting kicked in between your legs by a woman, plus, she even shot at you." Reginald wasn't happy at first when Dorian told him about it.

His blood boiled when he heard about Christian getting assaulted and then shot from Dorian. After the latter told him that Christian deserved it for acting rude to the woman who was trying to help him, he calmed down.

Christian glared at Dorian and the latter focused on eating to avoid eye contact with the former.

He should have known Dorian wouldn’t be able to keep his big mouth shut not because he couldn’t but because he liked embarrassing him.

He swore that he would teach him a lesson later. "Yes Dad, but it's nothing serious. I will settle the scores with her".

At that moment, Dorian coughed and butted in. "You seemed to enjoy being challenged." After so many years, someone challenged the all-powerful Christian Romero and it was a sight to behold.

Dorian couldn't help but tease Christian. After all, it wasn't every day someone challenged his brother, well, he did all the time but it was becoming boring and he needed someone to take over from him. He grinned at Christian who in return shot him a glare.

Christian was content when Dorian stopped talking and he decided to speak. "Dad, your wife has been setting me up on blind dates and pestering me to get married but not Dorian."

At that point, a loud clunk was heard as Dorian dropped his cutlery and glared at Christian as he could already tell where it was going.

"Don't you think it would be nice if you find a nice girl for him to settle down with rather than him wasting his time on all those flings?” Christian asked.

“He is my brother after all and it would be a shame if he doesn't get married and I do. Right, brother?" He threw the question to Dorian and a big mischievous smile spread across his face as he saw the life drain out of Dorian's face.

Mission accomplished!

He and Dorian had the same attitude when it came to marriage, and that was the fact that neither one was interested in getting married.

It was, however, for different reasons. Christian considered women a problem, while Dorian just wasn't ready to settle down with one woman when there were so many. He was the biggest Casanova and he liked his reputation

Dorian almost choked on his food and looked at the devil sitting next to him, wondering what he had done to get an annoying brother like Christian.

"You're right, both of you should be planning on settling down rather than being a playboy," Reginald jabbed at Dorian, who gave him a nervous smile. Since Christian wanted to go low then he would go lower.

"So Christian, I have good news," he started.

"What good news?" Christian squinted his eyes suspiciously.

His definition of good news and Dorian's definition of good news wasn't the same. As what was good to Dorian, would definitely be bad to him..

"You don't have to worry about getting an executive assistant, as Dad finally hired one for you,” Dorian informed Christian, who immediately could tell something was wrong.
