"I-i," Mabel stuttered as she didn't know what to say.
How was she supposed to help when the family didn't even include her in anything they did? She had no idea who this supposed family was and why they were her family's enemy. All she knew about the Romeros was that they were her family's arch-enemy. Nothing more, nothing less."Don't worry, I already have a task for her," Anthony responded to Kendra and Mabel knew she wasn't going to like the task as it would be close to impossible. The rest of dinner went by silently for Mabel as the rest of the family talked while she just stared at her empty plate as she was unable to eat anything.“Honey, aren’t you going to eat anything?” Claire asked after they were done having dinner.“Mom, leave her alone, any more food and she’ll blow up like an inflated balloon,” Kendra mocked Mabel. “Just a few years apart from us and you have gained so much weight.”“I’ll go get settled in,” Mabel said, immediately standing up from her seat. “Excuse me,” she took her leave. As soon as she was out of her family's presence, she heaved a sigh of relief and blinked continuously to hold back the tears. After she regained her composure, she went to her room which was a small storage room that was converted to hers. When she entered, she coughed from the dust that greeted her. ‘The hell?!’ She yelled in her mind when she saw the state of her room.Various boxes as well as items had been disposed of in it and the dust she saw told her that the room hadn’t been cleaned for years.“Oh honey, I’m so sorry, your return was so impromptu that I didn’t have the time to tell the helpers to clean your room,” she heard her stepmom’s voice from outside the room. “It doesn’t look that bad, you should be able to manage it.”Saying those words, Claire left Mabel alone. She looked at the room wondering where she was going to start from. She then started kicking the boxes that were at her feet and walked into the small room.Mabel knew she wouldn’t be assisted and so, she began to put the items in the empty boxes. This took her some time as some of the items were extremely heavy and by the time she was done, she was exhausted.‘There’s no way I’m going to get this done tonight,’ she muttered to herself just as her stomach growled. She became distracted when her phone rang. When she checked it, she saw that she had received a message from Rufus.“Check your bag,” was what the message read, after which it was deleted as soon as she read it. Her bags had been brought in earlier and so she went and opened them. To her surprise, she saw a take-out from a restaurant she liked, plus water.Mabel immediately picked up her phone to thank him for getting her dinner, but she realized it could get him in trouble, and so she decided to do it personally. Not caring about the dust, she sat on her bed and started eating, as she was starving.****"Cancel the remaining meeting we have for today," Christian instructed his employee as soon as he got home, and before the employee could say anything in response, he disconnected the call.Minutes after that woman left, a new car arrived for him. He was supposed to have a meeting with some investors who were in a different time zone but he wasn’t in the mood, especially as he was late for it all thanks to that woman puncturing his car.Christian was fuming with anger as he walked up to his room. Never would he have imagined himself in that situation. He touched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes to calm himself down. For his strike to be lethal, he needed to be calm and level-headed‘I don't know who you are, but I will make sure you never forget who I am.’The door to his room suddenly flung open and Dorian walked in with a smile on his face. On seeing Christian in a bad mood, he grinned and spoke, "Wow, looks like someone's inflated ego has been busted. Why did you cancel the meeting?”Christian opened his eyes and glared at him. “You really have some nerve showing yourself to me after abandoning me tonight,” he growled.“Oh, you're a grown man. Don’t be so whiny about it,” Dorian dismissed Christian's words. "Why did you cancel the meeting?" He asked once again. “And what happened to your arm?”"It's none of your business. Now get out!" Christian snapped in irritation."So who was the woman who messed with you?" Dorian continued to probe while ignoring Christian's words."There was no one, now, scram!" Christian answered. Dorian didn't need to know what had happened tonight, as he wouldn't let him hear the end of it."So who's the woman who hit you in between your legs and even had the guts to shoot the great Christian Romero?" Dorian inquired, and Christian's scowl deepened."Who told you?" He asked. "Was it the driver?""The champ is too scared to go against you. I have my ways," Dorian informed Christian."So it seems she isn't like your normal admirers. I mean, she potentially might have damaged your chances of having kids, plus, she almost unalived you," Dorian jested, holding in a laugh."Be very careful of your next words or I might forget who you are and put a bullet through your head.""You even cancelled your meeting. This woman must have had a strong effect on you because you have never cancelled a meeting because of a woman". Dorian continued, still not paying heed to what Christian was saying.Others might have been shaking in their boots over Christian's threats but he had been threatened far too many times to give a damn."Now that she has gotten your attention, do I finally have a sister-in-law to…"Christian looked at Dorian sharply and Dorian finally stopped talking as he knew he had pushed far too many buttons. He knew Christian was already seething with rage, and he wasn't helping matters. Before anyone could say anything else, Dorian's phone suddenly rang and his face became pale upon seeing the caller ID.Christian instantly guessed it was his mother calling, as that was the only time he saw such an expression on Dorian's face."Answer the call and tell her that she should stop trying to set me up on dates with stupid bimbos as I'm not interested, or else I'll stop talking to her".Dorian answered the call and gave Christian's message to Kate. After a series of back and forth, the call ended and Dorian turned to face Christian, who had now taken his seat on the bed."Mom is upset with you and she said the only way she will stop setting you up on dates is if you get married"."She even went further to threaten to set me up on dates. So please, darling brother, do me the favour of finding a nice girl, so Mom can lay off my back." Dorian pleaded in a nice tone."Get out of my room now!" Christian commanded."Alright, Alright, I'm going. Asshole. Dorian muttered as he left Christian's room."I heard that, Dorian," Christian yelled after him."Well, I meant for you to hear it, Asshole," Dorian said louder this time."You know Dorian, one of these days, I'm going to kill you" Christian retorted."That is, if I don't kill you first, Asshole." Dorian clapped back as he walked away.Just as Christian walked up to close the door, he was hit with a sharp pain in his head that made him drop to the floor due to how painful it was.'Not again,' he growled as he was hit with the same haunting memories.Mabel woke up the next morning to the sound of someone banging on her door. She groaned in annoyance as she had barely gotten any sleep due to her trying to clear the dust from her room."Wake up, you fat pig," she heard her half-sister's voice, and this just urged her to continue her sleep."Fine, I'll go tell Dad that you refused to see him after he called you," she heard Kendra say, and this was effective in getting Mabel up.She jumped off her bed and opened the door to find an annoyed Kendra at her door. "You fat pig, do you know how long I've been at the door?!""Less than three minutes," Mabel rolled her eyes at her overly dramatic sister."Wow, someone seems to have grown some guts after spending time away from us," Kendra sneered and she dragged Mabel by her hair. The latter was left helpless as if she touched Kendra, her father and stepmother wouldn't spare her."Just because you managed to get into that prestigious college and graduate top of your class doesn't change the f
Anthony had everything planned out. He was tired of Mabel and he finally wanted to take her out. She would die without him having to touch her and he would take down Christian. The two biggest problems in his life would be out for good. It was like killing two birds with one stone.“Keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t mess up the plan. Use force if necessary,” Anthony instructed his son.“With pleasure,” Kelvin responded with a devious smile on his face. It had been a long time since he had fun with Mabel and he had missed it a lot. After Mabel left her father’s study, she headed straight to her room. Thankfully, she hadn’t unpacked yet and so she didn’t have to go through the stress of packing her bags once again. She was however met by someone when she got to her room and that was her stepmother.Mabel took a deep breath as she knew that the woman didn’t have any good intentions coming there. “Mother,” she called.Claire turned to look at her and in her hands was the takeou
When Christian woke up the next day, he was more calm and composed than the previous night but that didn’t mean he was going to let the lady go scot-free.He immediately got himself ready for the office after which he left his house. As per his custom, his driver drove him to the coffee shop his mother owned, where he usually got coffee every morning before going to the office. When he however got there, he found someone else already in the shop. This made him frown a bit as he had given strict orders that no one should be allowed in until after he got his coffee in order to avoid dealing with anyone. In case he didn’t show up by a particular time, the coffee shop was free to open. He looked at his watch and it wasn’t even yet time so why was someone already in it.Without wasting time, he made his way over to the woman who didn’t know he was there as she had her back turned to him. As he got closer, he realized that there was something annoyingly familiar about her. His eyes went o
‘It would have been better if I stayed at home and dealt with my family than having to deal with him,’ Mabel muttered to herself as she walked on the sidewalk. Not only was her mood ruined, but she didn’t get her coffee and now she wasn’t in the mood for it anymore.Wanting to get her mind off what had just happened, she brought out her phone and proceeded to call someone she hadn’t heard from in four years, her grandparents.Just like the last four years when she had tried to get in touch with them, the call didn’t go through and the guilt hit her once again as she was the reason why her life was in danger. If they had just abandoned her after the death of their daughter, they would have led peaceful lives. After her father made her leave the country, her grandparents kept in touch with her and sent her money for her upkeep. They were careful with it but somehow, her father found out and he was unhappy with it. He said they were just spoiling her and that she wouldn’t be able to s
Christian looked at his father and then at Dorian, he was sure they were planning something devious as they often plotted against him. "Oh yes, I almost forgot to tell you. I was going through the applications and I found the perfect person," Reginald informed Christian. He grinned inwardly as his son wasn't going to like it at all but maybe a woman who could take Christian head on was what his son needed.'You're about to go for the ride of a lifetime, you asshole,' Dorian muttered under his breath. The rest of breakfast went by with them discussing other light-hearted issues and Reginald having spent some time with his sons, retired to his room. “What twisted game are you playing this time, Dorian?” Christian immediately fired at the latter as soon as they were alone.“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Dorian feigned innocence. “It is unclear to me as to how you knew about her when you weren’t there last night and today, somehow, you knew she was going to be at the cof
“You know you’ll get into trouble with my family right?” Mabel asked as she turned to look at the car that had been following them since they left the Deville mansion.“Wouldn’t be the first time, let’s go,” Rufus shrugged as he started to make his way inside.“Have I told you how much I love you?” Mabel yelled after him.“That’s cute but I’m not interested in getting into a relationship with you,” Rufus retorted and this made Mabel smile.Even though Rufus said he would help out a bit, he didn’t however leave until they had arranged and cleaned everywhere. By the time he left, it was already dark and Mabel was beyond exhausted. Without bothering to find out who Christian Romero was, she climbed her bed and fell asleep.**** “Hmm,” Mabel groaned when the sun hit her face. She immediately used the duvet to cover it. However, she found herself unable to go back to sleep for some reason.‘Shit!’ she suddenly cursed and jumped out of her bed. She turned to look at the time and cursed on
Christian was deep in his thoughts when he heard a knock on his door. He didn’t bother to answer it as if it was one of his employees, they wouldn’t bother him and well, Dorian would just let himself in.The person knocked again and Christian like the first time, didn't bother to answer it as he wanted to be left alone. His new Executive Assistant was supposed to be coming in today and he was already late. That alone made Christian resolve to fire him once the person showed up.The door slowly opened and he assumed it was Dorian so he didn’t turn to acknowledge his presence. He was mad about his new Executive Assistant coming in late on his first day and talking to Dorian would just make him madder. He however heard the sound of heels but he still didn't turn until he heard the woman speak. ‘What?!’ He asked himself when he heard her introduce herself as his new Executive Assistant. Why was his Executive Assistant a woman despite specifically saying he didn’t want one? He slowly tu
"Has she arrived yet? Why is she late on her first day?" Reginald sighed as he walked around Dorian's office. It was the first time he had been to his company in months and it was all because he wanted to experience the chaos that would occur after Christian found out who his new Executive Assistant was."Maybe she changed her mind after finding out she’s going to be working for Christian. I know I would if I was in her position,” Dorian said mindlessly as he worked on his computer. The fact that Dorian didn’t seem bothered about the issue irked Reginald a lot. He then walked up to Dorian and hit the back of his head. “Why aren’t you excited about this?” “Because I know your son. Plus, I have a lot of work to do and you’re disturbing me, Dad,” Dorian answered and his words earned him another hit from Reginald. “You’re just as annoying as your brother,” Reginald chided, wondering how he had been able to put up with both of them for so many years.“Even if she comes in, Christian wi
