Mabel woke up the next morning to the sound of someone banging on her door. She groaned in annoyance as she had barely gotten any sleep due to her trying to clear the dust from her room.
"Wake up, you fat pig," she heard her half-sister's voice, and this just urged her to continue her sleep."Fine, I'll go tell Dad that you refused to see him after he called you," she heard Kendra say, and this was effective in getting Mabel up.She jumped off her bed and opened the door to find an annoyed Kendra at her door. "You fat pig, do you know how long I've been at the door?!""Less than three minutes," Mabel rolled her eyes at her overly dramatic sister."Wow, someone seems to have grown some guts after spending time away from us," Kendra sneered and she dragged Mabel by her hair. The latter was left helpless as if she touched Kendra, her father and stepmother wouldn't spare her."Just because you managed to get into that prestigious college and graduate top of your class doesn't change the fact that you're a bastard who has been leeching off this family's niceness for years," Kendra growled.'To hell with their niceness!' Mabel yelled inwardly. All the days she had spent with them were torture for her."Let go of her, Kendra. I'll handle it," came the sudden voice of Kelvin and Mabel felt her blood go cold. She didn't want to be left alone with him after what he had repeatedly done to her. She would rather stay with Kendra than Kelvin as he was the cruelest one of the two siblings."I'll go meet Dad as he is calling me," she told them and like lightning, she ran away from there as fast as she could.Mabel looked back continuously to make sure she wasn't being followed and it made her bump into someone who turned out to be her father."I'm sorry, dad," she quickly apologized while also closing her eyes, anticipating him to hit her."Useless," Anthony inhaled sharply. "Follow me!" He then ordered Mabel and she did as he told her. He walked to his study and she followed quietly. When she entered, he closed the door and went to look at his desk. "Go through this," he said, picking up a file and tossing it to her.Mabel caught it and then opened it to read. According to what she was looking at, her father or whoever he sent to do the job, had applied to the Romero's company to work as an intern. The company seemed to be reputable so why was her father trying to get her into it when he didn’t care about her?"I know you're asking yourself why I applied there for you and I really hope you’re not thinking I’m doing this because I love you. I do not give a shit about you,” Anthony said and even though Mabel knew it, it still hurt to hear her father’s words.“I did so because this move is good for the family especially as no one knows who you are. You will infiltrate their company and get intel," Anthony explained. And he was right. After her mom gave birth to her, she gave her maiden name instead of her father's name to her, something Anthony didn't bother to change as he didn't accept her.The door opened and Kelvin walked into the room like a king as he took his seat on the couch in the room. What her father was asking her to do was both morally and legally wrong but she didn't have the guts to speak up."I want you to work there as an intern so you can get Intel about their company and give it to us. Being in the company will give you access to a lot of things. All of which you will share with Kelvin or me," her father stated and Mabel clenched her fist."And that's not all you have to do to help this family take down the Romeros," Anthony continued. "I don't care how you want to do it but you must make Christian Romero fall for you so we can use it to bring him down!""F-father," Mabel finally spoke up. Stealing company secrets she would try to do but she didn't want to stoop so low to break the heart of whoever the man in question was."I-I don't think I'm capable of making him fall in love with me," she spoke out. "I don't have the looks to pull it off." Kendra had always called her ugly after all so why was he sending her instead of his beloved daughter who was the prettier one?"All I hear are excuses and excuses…""... are just words for failure and I must not fail or else I will regret it," Mabel completed the words of Anthony as it was something that he had made sure was engraved in her mind."Should you fail to make Christian fall for you, then your grandparents’ death will be on you," Anthony told her and Mabel’s eyes widened in horror. Her mother’s parents were the only people she considered family as they had tried their best to protect her from her family. If something happened to them all because of her, then she would never be able to forgive herself because knowing her father, she knew it wasn’t an empty threat. He had the power to kill her grandparents and make it look like an accident.“Don’t harm them, I’ll do as you want,” Mabel assured her father.“That’s more like it. Your acceptance email should be coming in anytime soon and you'll start work immediately,” Anthony informed her.“You will report your progress to Kelvin. I want a weekly report of how it’s going,” Anthony instructed her.“Also, begin to pack your bags. You’re moving to another house, one that will make your story more believable.”“Well don’t just stand there, get a move on,” Kelvin snapped his fingers when she didn't move and Mabel immediately left the room.“Do you think she’ll be able to do it?” Kelvin asked his father after they were alone.“Of course not. All we need to do is to let her think she can and then expose her anonymously to Christian. Knowing how he hates betrayal, he’ll kill her and I’ll swoop in to bring him down for killing a family member,” Anthony said with an evil smile on his face.Eugene stared at the mansion which was built away from a residential area in the middle of nowhere which was swarming with guards and he squinted his eyes. His brother had to be very foolish if he thought he didn't keep an eye on him even while outside the country. There was no property his brother brought that he didn't know about and that included those that weren't even bought in George's name.He was standing in one of such mansions and he chuckled when he saw the guards as if they would stop him from getting his hands on George.“Dad, please get a move on it!” He heard Mabel say to him through the earpiece that was shoved in his ear.His children as well as Christian had wanted to come along but he refused as this was something he wanted to do by himself. It was a score only brother-to-brother could settle.Seeing as they wanted in on the action, he settled for attaching a camera to himself so they could see what was going on.Hearing how Mabel was impatient, he nodded to his ri
Eugene paced around the room as he waited for the asshole to be brought in. The bastard had dared to treat his daughter like that? He would make him pay for the rest of his pathetic life. The door opened and he came face to face with the bastard. The guard nodded to him after which he closed the door.“Who are you?” Anthony squinted his eyes at Eugene who immediately closed the gap before them and landed a punch to the former's face.“Are you crazy?” Anthony roared as he moved to attack Eugene.Eugene easily dodged and he landed another punch on Anthony. This time, to the gut.“That is nothing compared to the hell you put my daughter through for the last sixteen years,” Eugen growled and the realization hit Anthony.“Eugene Lansley and it's not a pleasure to meet you,” He said as he lifted Anthony and threw him against the table.“Guards!” Anthony called when he realized he wasn't against the man who was allegedly Mabel's father.“You decided to punish my daughter because your fragil
Kate then smiled at her and she smiled back. Mabel felt Christian rub her fingers and when he turned to look at him, he had a smile on his face as he was happy that they had sorted out their differences.Mabel and his mother were the two most important women in his life and he was happy they had found a way to co-exist. “I'm going to kill him,” they suddenly heard Eugen roar. Everyone at the table with the exception of Mabel immediately got up to see what the commotion was all about. When Christian noticed that she wasn't following, he immediately came back and dragged her away from her seat.“What happened?” Mabel heard Reginald ask when they got to where Eugene was. He was currently heading out of their mansion but he stopped upon hearing Reginald speak.“Check your phone, George has made his move,” Eugene told George. He had been in the middle of catching up with Dorian when he got a call from his men asking him to check his phone and when he did, his blood boiled when he saw the
Dorian didn't like how Pauline blamed herself and so he decided to hug her to assure her that he wasn't mad. It wasn't her fault and people dealt with grief differently. He didn't want to imagine what would have gone on in her head after losing her second child. “I'm so sorry, honey,” Pauline apologized as she hugged Dorian back. All those years of suffering immediately vanished from her head as she held her son. Her mind took her to when he was pregnant with him and how he had troubled her by keeping her up late at night. She remembered the first time he kicked her and how she had been so excited to see him. She had been so happy that she got a son as she won the bet against Eugene who prayed for a daughter, one that would look like her while she wanted a mini Eugene.“It’s not your fault,” Dorian stated. If there was one thing the accident that almost claimed his life had taught him, it was that life was too short for him to delay accepting his parents who had already been throu
When Mabel opened her eyes, she saw that it was already morning and when she turned to look at Christian, she saw that he was not beside her and when she touched the bed, it was cold. She immediately picked up her phone to see if he had left a message and sure enough he had. He informed her that he was going to visit George’s mansion as the bastard had gone into hiding. Her eyes darkened when she remembered what George had attempted to do to her had Christian not shown up. As violated as she felt, Christian had made her feel better by holding her in his arms till she fell asleep. Thoughts about Dorian and the two people who were claiming to be her parents rang in her head but she pushed them to the back of her head as she wasn’t playing when she said they weren’t her parents, nor Dorian her brother. Her stomach growled, reminding her of the fact that she didn’t have dinner or lunch the previous day. Without wasting time, she quickly brushed her teeth and headed down to have whatever
Dorian turned to look at the woman who had fallen asleep beside him, which was the reason why he had asked to watch a movie in the first place. He had known that she would be too worried, and he didn’t want that.He gently made her lie on the bed, after which he covered her up. Taking one last look at her, he headed out of the room and gently closed the door behind him.Without wasting time, he headed straight to the liquor room and when he got there, he stopped in his tracks when he saw Christian already seated down and he already had a glass in his hands.“I’ve been waiting for you,” Christian stated as he tapped the other glass he had brought out. “How’s Mabel?” Dorian inquired as he went to sit beside Christian.“She’s sleeping,” Christian answered as he poured a drink for Dorian. “What about Nala?” “Sleeping as well.” Dorian didn’t waste any time in gulping down the contents of the glass. “A lot has happened,” Christian sighed as it still felt surreal to know that his brother
