“Flying Utensils”

POV Samatha

Amanda shows me the kitchen and tells me I will start as a dishwasher starting at 6:00am sharp. We serve three main meals a day. Then clean the house in between. I’m expected to stay in the kitchen, and not serve for now. Things may change once Kyle takes over as Alpha from his father. She gives me a couple of uniforms to wear. Tells me my expectations and then leaves.

I wait for the omegas to bring me my stuff from my parents’ house. When they arrive with my stuff, they throw it on the ground, calling me names, then slam the door on their way out. I make the bed. I put a pillow over my mouth, and allow myself to scream, and grieve the loss of my life. Tomorrow will be a better day, I tell myself. I brush my teeth, take off my makeup, braid my hair, and then crawl into bed. Tomorrow will be a better day. I say to myself over and over.

I wake up the next day feeling tired. When I get to the kitchen at 5:55am. There is a stack of dishes almost to the ceiling. I wash them. Saying in my head over and over, “I can do this, I’m a strong, confident wolf” Words I’ve heard before, but I’m not sure where. Amanda comes in at 7:00am sharp. She’s disappointed I haven’t got more done. She tells me I’m spending too much time trying to be perfect. I thought I was just making sure the dishes were clean enough to eat off of.

Amanda bounces a soup spoon off my head. “Do better!”

I get whacked about three more times by lunch time. I try to take a break, but I’m told I don’t deserve one. Amanda leaves until dinner time. So I get a break from the flying utensils. We have many people at dinner. I work until 10pm, finishing the dishes. I go downstairs to my room to get ready for bed. Kyle is there waiting for me.

“Where the fuck have you been?” He asks.

“In the kitchen doing dishes,” I respond.

“This is not acceptable. I want you to be finished working by 8:30am in the bath, and ready for me.” He snarls.

“No! I’ll do dishes all night before sleeping with you!” He pushes me down on the bed and kisses me. I feel tingles all over my body. I can’t help but grab him and kiss him back.

He shoves me away. “You are my slave ! You will do as you're told. You will stay down here until you're ready to accept me. I will not force myself on you. You are my mate.”

“No! You must choose between me or Melanie.”

Kyle looks like he is arguing with his wolf. Kyle makes it clear he wants to be close to me because of the stupid mate bond. He told me he will not sleep with Melanie until I sleep with him. He doesn’t even want to marry Melanie. His father is forcing him too. It’s all just words to me.

After Kyle leaves, an omega shows up with a gift box from kyle. She throws it at my face. Gabriel takes over and slams the omega into a wall, leaving an omega size mark. Then releases her without a word.

It’s a small, beautiful angel pendant for my ankle. He remembered I love angels. I put it on and smile. Maybe he will choose me over Melanie?

I do not see Kyle again until the evening of his wedding.
