Chapter 5

Author: Frosty
After hearing every word Sylvie said, Hayden froze.

It turned out she had always loathed him, but it no longer mattered. Her suffering was coming to an end.

Hayden smiled silently, turned around, and left.

The lavish lounge was buzzing with activity. After having a few more drinks, his vision began to blur and double.

While he was in his daze, a woman came over with a glass and started a conversation.

Perhaps he was really drunk. Seeing her eyes, so much like Amelia's, Hayden took the glass.

As she held out the glass, his pent-up rebellious streak finally surfaced. He took the initiative to hold her hand. "I'll drink a toast with you. Could you tell me your name?"

"Drinking is fine, but let's leave our names out of it. Shall we, sir?

Lost in those eyes, Hayden muttered drunkenly, "Y-you’re just refusing to tell me that you're Amelia, aren’t you?"

He blinked hard a few times, trying to see her face clearly.

Opening his eyes again, he saw Sylvie charging over like a madwoman, grabbing a bottle and smashing it against the woman's head.

The two women grappled with each other, smashing bottles and glasses across the floor. During the fight, Hayden's hand was cut.

The sharp sting gave him a fleeting moment of clarity.

He stumbled forward and grabbed Sylvie to stop her. "It was me! I was the one who approached her. Why are you hitting her?"

The blood boiling through Sylvie's veins seemed to freeze. Her gaze turned razor-sharp as she looked at him.

For some reason, Hayden suddenly felt uneasy under that piercing stare. He shook his head, trying to fish a few reasonable excuses out of his muddled brain.

"Don't you think her eyes look a lot like yours? Besides, you don't even like me. How about you stop coming around, and I'll find someone else?"

With every word he uttered, Sylvie's expression grew increasingly grim. Unable to hold back any longer, she seized him and dragged him out of the bar. "So you're bored of me and plan to cast me aside after using me? Hayden, let me tell you this: I won't allow that to happen!"

Hayden waved a hand, his usual carefree tone returning.

"Aren't we just getting what we each wanted? How could you possibly call this 'casting you aside after using you'? I can keep you as a lover. Why can't I keep someone else?"

That single sentence ignited Sylvie's rage. She glared at him, gritted her teeth, and demanded, "Go ahead! I dare you!"

Hayden frowned, his eyes flashing with irritation. "Why wouldn't I dare? After all, you were originally Amelia's—"

"Sylvie, I only left for the restroom. Why are you out here?" Joshua's sudden appearance snapped Hayden out of his thoughts.

It also helped Sylvie gradually regain her composure.

Suppressing the turbulent emotions surging within her, she helped Hayden to his feet, her tone returning to calm. "He's drunk, so I'm taking him home. Since you're out, you might as well get in the car."

With that, she tossed the keys to him and helped Hayden into the backseat.

As Joshua drove, his gaze kept drifting toward the two people in the back. "How did he end up at the bar?"

"I don't know."

Hearing her icy tone, Joshua's eyes darted about, and he intentionally remarked, "I heard he had plenty of girlfriends before he met you. He was a regular at bars too.

“Sylvie, it's a good thing you aren't marrying a guy like that. Otherwise, he might just revert to his true self after the wedding."

Sylvie had just calmed down, but now she was getting worked up again. "Joshua, focus on driving!"

Stung by her stern tone, Joshua turned his head, looking aggrieved. "Sylvie, you yelled at me..."

As he spoke, he turned the steering wheel, failing to notice the sharp bend in the road ahead.

The next second, the car slammed straight into the mountainside!

In the hospital corridor, the glaring red operating-theater light glowed. Sally slapped Sylvie across the face, her voice trembling. "You monster! That's Joshua! Joshua, who grew up with you! How could you say such things to provoke him?"Sylvie did not dodge. Blood seeped from the corner of her mouth. Her eyes were vacant, mumbling to herself, "I didn't mean for him to die...""What's the use of saying that now?" Flora suddenly lunged at her and began to beat her, her sharp nails leaving scratches all over her. "If anything happens to my son, I'll make you pay for it!"The operation light went out.The doctor pushed the door open and stepped out, his face grave as he sighed slightly. "Sorry. We did our best. Our condolences. "The corridor fell silent at those words. Then, Flora began wailing.Sally staggered back a step, while Sylvie suddenly burst into laughter. The laughter grew louder and finally turned into a hysterical fit of laughter. "Karma! This is all karma... We we

Online public opinion was originally overwhelmingly critical of Hayden, but it reversed overnight. The evidence Liam released was like a grenade, shattering Joshua's carefully crafted image of a victim.Chat records, surveillance videos, and even hospital diagnosis certificates showed that Joshua's so-called suicides were carefully designed. The most damning voice recording was of Joshua smugly boasting to his friends on the eve of Sylvie and Hayden's wedding."That fool Sylvie! All I have to do is pretend I'm going to jump off a building, and she'll do whatever I say. I even managed to stop her from going to the wedding to Hayden for me. So what if he's her official boyfriend? He still can't compare to me."The insults suddenly turned on Joshua, with everyone piling on him at once.Sylvie was just stepping out of the airport when she received the news.A call from her assistant interrupted her as she was heading to collect her luggage. "Ms. Scott, this is terrible! Mr. Gillman

"You didn't have any evidence either, but you still firmly believed that I bullied Joshua, didn't you?"Hayden’s emotionless words left Sylvie frozen in place. The man in her memory, who always smiled gently at her, now wore an unfamiliar, distant look.Hayden supported Jasmine, lowering his gaze at the trembling Sylvie. "Why are you always so self-righteous? You protected Joshua without any reason before, and you accused me of being vicious when I did nothing. “You simply brushed aside the harm you caused me and said he was still young. I think I made myself clear enough yesterday. Sylvie, who is it that keeps pestering me and making a fuss non-stop?"Sylvie's eyes were red as she opened her mouth to say something, but Hayden was not looking at her. He supported Jasmine back to the mansion and closed the door with a thud.Once they were away from the view of outsiders, Hayden indifferently pushed Jasmine away from him. "Jasmine, who asked you to do all that?” His voice grew c

The moon hung high in the sky. Sylvie followed Hayden and Jasmine, eventually parking her car at the entrance of the Simpson villa. She watched Jasmine help Hayden enter the mansion and not come out for a long time. Seeing the mansion brightly lit inside, she did not dare go up and ring the doorbell. The curtains in the master bedroom upstairs were drawn, and she could vaguely see two figures moving inside. Soon, the lights went out, and the mansion fell into a silent darkness.Sylvie's hand, hanging at her side, tightened, her sharp nails piercing her palm. She did not even feel the pain. She pondered, 'Who is that woman? She has nothing in common with Amelia. Why did Hayden allow her to stay by his side?'Sylvie thought she most resembled Amelia. As long as she could stay by Hayden's side and as long as he could change his mind, she would do anything he asked. Her thoughts were in a complete mess. Her eyes were red, but she dared not approach the mansion. She seemed to have l

"Joshua kept threatening suicide. If I didn't pretend to agree with him, it would have been a life lost... Besides, my family members have always... “Anyway, Hayden, come back with me. This time, I'll ignore them. You're the one I love. I have to be with you. They’ll understand eventually!"The cool night breeze carried Sylvie's words straight to Hayden, sobering him up almost instantly. He looked at the panicked Sylvie in front of him and smiled sarcastically. "Sylvie, you knew all along, didn’t you?"His voice was light, but his words cut like a knife. "Joshua faked those suicide threats."Sylvie's pupils contracted suddenly, and her lips trembled. "I... No, he... He really...""That came later." Hayden interrupted her, his gaze clear and cold. "You kept enabling him again and again, and that is what made him more and more twisted."He straightened his windblown clothes, his voice frighteningly calm. "Just like how you knew I was using you as a substitute, yet you still chose

Business receptions abroad were much the same as back home, filled with people in elegant outfits, clinking glasses, and flowing drinks.Hayden held a bottle of champagne and stood in the corner, watching the unfamiliar faces. No one here knew his past. They only knew that he was the sole heir of Simpson Group. Everyone's gaze toward him contained only respect. No one looked at him with pity or nosiness."Mr. Simpson." Jasmine appeared beside him at some point, holding a cup of water. "Don't drink so much liquor."Her fingertips felt cold as they removed the glass from his hand."Why don't you mingle with the others?""My job is to follow you." She replied as if it were the most natural thing. "Of course, I will follow you wherever you go."Hayden's eyes crinkled slightly. "No need. You can leave work early today."Jasmine looked straight at him and suddenly asked, "Can I ask you a question?""Go ahead.""Do you regret coming to Areland?"Hayden froze. For a moment, he did n
