Chapter 8

Nancy's mind went completely blank, and it felt like someone had ripped her heart straight out of her chest. The pain was unbearable—sharp, suffocating, and final.

Hannah was actually pregnant.

Nancy had already suspected this day would come, but seeing it happen still crushed her. She watched as Hansen gently supported Hannah, his eyes filled with worry and fear.

Those emotions had never shown up in his eyes before. It was as if he was terrified something might happen to her.

Hannah said with a smile, "Hanny, don't be so nervous. I'm not that fragile, you know..."

But Hansen immediately snapped, "What do you mean you're not fragile? You're carrying my baby."

Hearing that, Hannah's face lit up with a sweet, giddy smile she could not hide. She was just about to say something else when her gaze landed on someone nearby—and her expression instantly changed.

"Mrs. Holland? What are you doing here?" she asked.
