I needed to get away!
Away from the suffocating house, away from the pain of his betrayal, away from the image of Olivia smirking in the seat that used to be mine! Get away from that person who wants to kill me!
The cool night air stung my skin as I ran through the trees, the shadows swallowing me whole. My lungs burned, but I kept going, clutching my stomach.
“W-Who was that?”
His voice… it was familiar, but I couldn’t see his face clearly…my vision was still spinning.
A sharp snap cracked through the silence, shattering my thoughts.
Before I could move, a rough hand clamped over my mouth and yanked me backward. My scream smothered into a muffled gasp. Panic exploded inside me. My legs kicked, my arms thrashed, my nails clawed at the air—but the grip only tightened.
“Stay still,” a low, growling voice rasped against my ear.
The stench hit me. It was unwashed sweat, blood, and the feral musk of wolves who had long abandoned the laws of any pack.
Nightstalkers.
My heart slammed against my ribs.
Another pair of hands grabbed my wrists, jerking them behind me. The rope bit into my skin, rough and unyielding, tightening until I hissed in pain.
“W-What are you going to do to me?! Who are you?!” The plea slipped from my lips, muffled and broken.
But they didn’t care.
“Don’t bother. Your Alpha doesn’t care about you anymore,” one of them sneered, his voice thick with contempt.
Laughter followed, cruel and mocking. “He’s too busy with his new mate.”
“Good thing we caught her. That bastard couldn’t even finish the job.”
They dragged me through the forest, my feet stumbling over roots and rocks, until we reached a clearing. A battered truck sat there, its back opened like the maw of a cage.
“Get in,” one barked.
I hesitated, terror clawing at my throat. What did they want with me? Ransom? Revenge?
Another rogue raised his hand, claws glinting under the moonlight. My heart lurched, and I climbed in, forcing my body to obey. The door slammed shut behind me.
The truck roared to life, rattling down uneven paths. Every jolt sent sharp stabs through my body, but worse than the physical pain was the suffocating dread pressing on my chest.
“She’s worth a lot,” one muttered outside. “An Alpha’s mate? Packs will pay.”
“Or the Black Fang,” another said with a chuckle. “They’d love to get their hands on a Luna.”
“Shut it,” the leader snapped. “We wait for orders.”
Orders? From who?
I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. I couldn’t rely on anyone to come. Not Aiden. Not my pack. I was alone.
Hours passed like years before the truck ground to a halt. They dragged me out and shoved me into a damp, rotting cell. The air stank of mildew and dried blood, clawing at my throat until I gagged.
The ropes cut deeper as I twisted my wrists, ignoring the burn. I had to get free. I had to fight. My twins needed me!
At last, the fibers loosened just enough. I yanked my arms free.
“What the—?!” one shouted, storming toward me.
I didn’t think. My foot shot out, slamming into his groin. He dropped with a howl. Another lunged at me, but I ducked, ramming my shoulder into his gut and sending him sprawling.
Adrenaline screamed through me as I darted for the door.
“She’s running away again!”
Branches whipped across my face and arms, tearing my skin and cloth, but I didn’t stop. I ran until I saw the faint outline of the border in the distance. Relief burst in my chest.
A blur slammed into me, crushing me to the ground.
The impact knocked the air from my lungs. I struggled, clawing at the earth, but the weight pinning me down was immovable.
“Going somewhere, Luna?” The nightstalker's voice dripped with cruel amusement.
Hot tears burned my eyes. “No—please! Let me go!”
He bared his teeth, the glint of fangs inches from my throat. My body trembled violently, every instinct screaming of death.
Then—
Snap.
The sound cracked through the forest.
The nightstalker froze. His body stiffened as footsteps echoed in the shadows.
Someone emerged from the darkness.
“Enough,” the voice said softly. “Not yet, my pets.”
The nightstalker stepped back immediately, their snarls quieting to obedient silence.
My chest heaved as I scrambled backward, every instinct screaming for me to run. The forest around me blurred with shadows, and the damp earth seemed to grip my feet as if it wanted to hold me there.
“W-Who are—” I stammered, trying to lift my gaze to see the figure standing in front of me. But before I could even catch a clear glimpse, the person moved with unnatural speed.
“Shut up.”
My breath hitched as a sharp, icy pain shot through my body. My veins burned as if frost and fire had collided inside me. My limbs grew dull, my strength draining away with every heartbeat. I tried to lift my arms, to push back, but my muscles refused to obey.
My vision swam, and the forest spun around me in a dizzying blur.
“Bring her body to my lair.”
The words froze me in place. My stomach knotted, and my mind raced. Who was this? What did they want with me?
“Make sure no one will know and follow you.”
That was the last thing I heard before darkness swallowed me.
Aria’s POV“Wake up. You need to wake up.”The voice wasn’t coming from the woods or the wind.It was coming from inside my own head, vibrating through my skull until my eyes snapped open.I gasped, my lungs burning as if I had been underwater for minutes.I scrambled to sit up, my hands digging into the cold, damp soil.“H-Huh? What?” I whispered, my voice cracking.I looked around frantically. It was still dark. The moon was high, casting long, skeletal shadows across the clearing, but the air felt different now.It felt heavy, like a storm was about to break.“You have to go. You have to chase her. It’s already too late.”The voice of the Aristea was colder this time, more urgent. It felt like a command that my soul was forced to obey. I felt a sudden, sharp pain in my chest that forced me to my knees.I crawled backward, my breath coming in short, ragged huffs. My heart was drumming against my ribs so hard it hurt.Olivia. I could feel her presence in the distance, a dark, oily s
Aria’s POVI bit my bottom lip, hard.My legs were still shaking from the way he’d just worked me over, but I wasn’t going to back down.I had already agreed to this, and honestly, seeing him lying there looking up at me—hot, disheveled, and completely focused on me—made my blood boil all over again. If he wanted me to take control, I was going to give it to him.“Fine,” I whispered, though it was more of a challenge than a surrender.I shifted my weight, hovering over him. I reached down, my fingers trembling as I guided his length to my entrance. He was so ready, slick and burning hot against my inner thighs.I took a deep breath and lowered myself slowly, taking him in. The moment he slid inside, my eyes rolled back into my head.“Oh my,” I gasped. He was huge. He felt thicker and longer than I had ever imagined, stretching me out and filling every bit of the empty ache inside me. It was an overwhelming, heavy sensation that made my stomach flip.“Fuck,” he cursed, the word vibrati
Aria’s POVHe reacted instantly.I expected him to carry me back toward the palace, through the grand hallways and into the safety of a locked bedroom. But as he lifted me into his arms, he didn’t head for the stone walls.Instead, he started walking toward the edge of the grounds. My heart hammered against my ribs when I realized where we were going. He stopped under the heavy, low-hanging branches of a tree and carefully lowered me onto the grass.“K-Kaelen, wait,” I gasped, my voice shaking.I looked around frantically, “What are you doing? Someone might see us. We’re right out in the open.”The palace was still visible in the distance, its windows glowing because of the lights. The wind rustled the leaves above us, and every small sound felt like a footstep. I was terrified that a guard or a late-night servant would stumble upon us.“Relax,” he murmured. His voice was low, vibrating in his chest as he hovered over me.“No one is going to see us here, Aria. This is my spot. I come
Aria’s POVThe warmth of his body against my back was confusing. He was treating me like I didn’t exist, and now he was holding me as if he’d die if he let go.“What are you doing?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper, “You should be inside resting.”“No, I can’t rest,” he muttered, his breath warm against the shell of my ear.I could hear the strain in his voice, that raw edge that told me he’d been pacing and overthinking just as much as I had.“Not after the things I said to you. The guilt is eating me alive, Aria. I know I was acting like a jerk. I was mad, okay? I was so incredibly angry.”He paused, his grip on my waist tightening slightly, and then he let out a frustrated sound.“But you have to understand... I’m jealous. I hate it. I hate seeing you care for Aiden like that. It feels like you care about him more than me.”I blinked, stunned by his bluntness.“What? What are you even saying?”“Aria, I love you,” he said, and the way he said it sounded like a confession and a ple
Aria’s POVKaelen turned his back on me and walked away without looking back.I stood there, rooted to the spot, watching his retreating figure until he disappeared around the corner. There was no use arguing or trying to explain myself anymore.I let out a long, heavy breath, feeling the weight of the silence settling. For a second, my mind went completely blank. I actually forgot what I was supposed to be doing. It’s funny how a person’s cold shoulder can make you lose your internal compass.I stepped back out to wander around and clear my head.My thoughts kept drifting to Kaelen and Aiden. It was a disaster waiting to happen.I knew they wouldn’t get along. No matter how much I tried to play mediator or keep the peace, they were bound to clash.Feeling defeated, I decided to just go back and try to get some rest.I needed to sleep this off. When I walked into the bedroom, I expected things to be normal—or at least, as normal as they could be.I thought Kaelen would be there, waiti
Aria’s POVI moved instinctively, pushing Aiden away from me a little too quickly. My eyes were still glued to the empty doorway where Kaelen had just been standing. The sudden movement caught Aiden off guard, and he looked up at me with a confused, hurt expression, his brows furrowing in a silent question.“I’m sorry,” I stammered, trying to find my footing. My heart was still racing from the look Kaelen gave me.“I just... I got startled. Don’t mind that. Look at me, Aiden.”I took his hands in mine, trying to ground both of us.His skin was still clammy, and he looked so fragile, which was a sight I never thought I’d see.“Aiden, listen. We are going to get your wolf back. I promise you that. But first, we have to deal with Olivia. We’ll come up with a strategy together, but I need you to focus. Tell me right now—where are our children?”I squeezed his hands, my voice dropping to a desperate whisper.“Aiden, she could take them. You know how manipulative Olivia is. She will do what
