Isabella had insisted on waiting for August to be available in order to take Mercy to the house that they shared in the center of the village. Mercy could understand that. After all, she hadn’t exactly proven herself to be the sort of person one could trust not to have a problem on the short walk. “How do we even know that Rider is telling us the truth?” August’s mom asked him from her seat across from his desk. “He could just be messing with us, trying to scare us.”“I’m not scared of her name, Mom. Making breakfast was not something August was particularly good at.
