Fox Amongst Wolves Chapter 9
News of the House of Zohm breaking the Pact quickly spread. In just three days, the royal relatives and every official gathered to declare Horus' removal from power.Once the next in line was appointed king, his first order was the dismantling of the royal hunting grounds as well as a full ban on pleasure hunting of the fae.He then personally travelled to the fringes of the Eternal Peak, where borders were redrawn and a new pact with the Fae was signed.Yosk didn't stay as Lord Protector either, as he turned the Lord Protector's seal into a border guardian seal. Now, he didn't answer to any kings and stayed out of politics, only getting involved in fae incidents or if the citizens were in danger. The new king insisted on maintaining his title as Lord Protector after decades of service, but Yosk didn't care.Once he returned to Eternal Peaks, the first thing he did was decorate the new hills Father had given me.It was now protected by at least eighteen barriers and the skies
Fox Amongst Wolves Chapter 8
Once the leyline was severed, the golden light that shielded Zohm for eighty years rapidly faded. All the officials in the throne room paled and promptly distanced themselves from the royals.Zohm's enemies were always watching, and were only kept at bay by Yosk's ward that protected them. Now that the wolves were turning against them, everyone knew the Zohms' dynasty would not last at all. King Horus finally panicked at that. "Please, I simply… made a mistake. Just restore the leyline—I will disavow Joy this instant, and you can deal with her as you see fit."Joy was left gaping in disbelief. "Father…?"Queen Petra paled too. "That's your beloved daughter!""Silence!"Horus was suddenly freed from his throne, and the first thing he did was slap Petra to the floor. "Would this have happened at all if you didn't spoil Joy to be the lawless brat she is?!"The princes were quick to condemn Joy as well."It was all Joy's fault! She is responsible for everything!""We never want
Fox Amongst Wolves Chapter 7
Joy never heard Yosk as she was ready to cut further under my fur. I raised my paw and caught her wrist right then, even as the dormant power in my blood swelled like a surging tide across every fiber of my being.Joy's face dropped. "Get your stinkin' paws off—"Smack!I sent her flying before she could finish, and she crashed into a table and lay miserably in soup.As moonlight spilled through the open roof upon me, my loose white coat lengthened and sharpened, while the rest of my body swelled. My severed tail regenerated, while nine moons materialized behind me."Awooo!!!"I reared my head and howled like a wolf for the first time, my cry reaching even the Eternal Peaks. The Defae Ward vibrated violently as the chains tying down my family shattered, and the fae that were suppressed outside the palace all rose to their feet, bowing their heads at the hall.Panicking, Horus directed the ward at me. "Kill her!"The runes in the air converged upon me like a rain of blades,

Queen Petra promptly shielded Joy behind herself, snapping, "Joy is the only princess of Zohm! Nobility is in her blood! How dare you treat her equal to some mere fae who can't even shapeshift! And don't forget—this is the royal house of Zohm, not the Eternal Peaks!"King Horus was on his feet too. "Lord Yosk… Joy has made a mistake, but doesn't deserve death. Leave in peace, and I will appoint Cybil as High Fae and be treated just like a princess. We will also refrain from charging you for invading my palace."Yosk was looking at me in his arms, and suddenly laughed. "The late king fled this palace when the North took nine cities around Izonia, but I stopped their cavalry of 300,000 strong. I was also the one who restored the leyline under the city by giving half my core, ushering prosperous times."I never stayed for prestige or for Zohm's titles, but to keep the end of the late king's bargain that humans will stay out of Eternal Peaks."Then, plucking the Lord Protector's seal

The hall was abruptly silent, though Father didn't tell Yosk to get up.Instead, he strode up to him, sending his face sideways with a slap, snapping, "You've been playing retainer for so long you can't even recognize your sister's scent?!"Yosk looked up right then, and finally noticed me on the wooden stock—my fur caked in blood, my tails and paws a bleeding mess.On top of that, there was the Fae Binder collared around my neck, while a pelting knife was pressing against my hind legs.Yosk's eyes went red right then, and he walked up to me, his fingers trembling as he touched my head. "Cybil…?"Sniffing his familiar scent, the grief I suffered for days swelled as I whimpered meekly, unable to speak like a human as I still couldn't shapeshift.Yosk, however, understood, and ripped the chains apart with his bare hands while breaking my collar with his Reiki. The servants who helped torture me tried to run right then, but Yosk snapped his fingers without even looking at them.Th
Fox Amongst Wolves Chapter 4
The palace was decorated grandly for Joy's birthday.I was kept in a cage made out of gold, put on display at the center of the ball. The needles on my neck kept digging into my flesh with every breath, while the rest of my injuries were left to fester. My paws were such a mess and hardly looked like paws now, and Joy thought I looked sorry and had her maids splash me with ice water.I shuddered and opened my eyes with much difficulty to find Zohm's officials admiring my appearance like I was a treasure.Queen Petra was at once praising Joy, "Oh, Joy, you're so blessed! Catching such a rare fox from such a routine hunt!"Joy puffed her chest smugly. "If you like, I can save you a piece of pelt for gloves."Petra smiled. "You're the best."The flattery was endless, while I glanced at the dark brown seat right beside King Horus' throne. It was Yosk's, but he still hadn't shown up.I had heard from the whispers of those in the palace that he had been staying in seclusion within
