LOGIN“My mother’s crazy,” Kai mutters lowly as he sits on the bed. Meanwhile, Ellyse is busy fixing her luggage. “We can’t do anything about it. It seems like she’s still trying to get us back together,” She replied to him, her back facing him. “And also for Claire’s sake. I think she just wants her to feel like you and I are still together,” He stated. Ellyse agreed with him. Maybe she was just thinking of it as a bad thing. But sleeping beside Kai shouldn’t feel as awkward. After all, they’ve done it a couple of times already. “Do you think we’ll ever tell her?” She asked, pertaining to their divorce. When she heard no response from him, she instinctively turned her head to look at him. He was staring at the ceiling with both of his hands on his side to support his weight. “I don’t know. If she asks, maybe?” His eyes fell onto her.
The car ride was awfully quiet and excruciatingly awkward. Claire was sitting at the back, fast asleep while Ellyse was on the passenger’s seat. Originally, they were planning to go to Victoria and George’s house first before heading to the Airport. But then, Victoria texted Kai at the very last minute to inform him that they should go ahead. Now, the silence between them is killing her. Especially after what happened to them days ago, and also the conversation she had with Agatha. The silence between them has always been awkward, but that specific moment really made her highly uncomfortable. “You broke up with Agatha?” She couldn’t take the silence anymore, she had to talk to him about something. And his ex was the first thing that came to her mind. He briefly glanced at her, “How did you find out?” “She
“Oh God…” Ellyse mutters a whisper as she covered her mouth. Kai on the other hand looked at her as if he committed a grave crime. Having her push him hurt him in ways he couldn’t comprehend. Was it because he felt rejected? Or was it so much more deeper? “I-I’m so sorry-“ “Don’t,” She raised her hand to stop him. “Just don’t Kai,” The idea that she almost let him kiss her made her feel so foolish. She hated herself for almost giving in—for being so stupid to even let herself be put in such situation. “Ellyse,” He says her name as if it was an apology. “You’re so cruel, do you know that?” She held the edge of the sink for support. “I-I didn’t-“ “You didn’t mean it?” She cut him off, pain coating her voice.
“Oh! Pardon me, I meant grandchild! Goodness, my head hasn’t been working lately,” Victoria continued on saying. Ellyse’s heart was beating so fast! Her eyes were trained on Kai who didn’t even notice what his mother had said and kept eating as if it was nothing. She was tapping her foot on the floor, anxious about what’s going to happen next. Victoria is obviously hinting her pregnancy. She’s trying to make her uncomfortable and alerted, and she doesn’t like it. What happened to the woman she once knew? The one she treated like her own mother. Where is she now, and who’s this woman sitting across her? “Well anyway, I’ve already booked a beach trip for all of us next week. It’s already planned so you don’t have to worry about anything,” George assured them.
The whole entire night, Ellyse couldn’t sleep because she couldn’t stop thinking about what Kai said to her. He was willing to do everything to make it up to her? Was that even true? Or did he only say that to make her feel better? She couldn’t even blame herself for struggling to believe him after everything he’s put her through. She shouldn’t even think about it because she already knows that when it comes to him, there is no certainty. Ellyse twisted and turned on her bed multiple times until she finally found herself drifting asleep. The next morning, she woke up early since Claire had school. It’s now her routine to cook breakfast, bathe her and drop her off to school. And so she did just that. After she was finished taking a bath and getting ready, they sat at the dining table to eat. “Mom, why didn’t
Claire insisted that Kai should come with them after visiting Victoria. Ellyse was hesitant at first because she knew how busy he was with the company. However, he agreed on going. They took different cars which is the reason why Claire kept looking at the back to check if her father was tailing them behind, afraid he might change ways. Ellyse also caught herself looking at Kai’s car from time to time. She felt ridiculous in doing so. When they arrived at her house, Kai parked his car beside hers and he walked hand-in-hand with their daughter. It was part of Claire’s routine to sleep after school so she figured it would be the best time for him to leave once she’s asleep. “Dad, come inside! Don’t leave,” She said while pulling her father’s hand. “I won’t, I promise,” He chuckled, letting himself get pulled.
Ellyse felt thankful that her in-laws didn’t stay another night so she was able to sleep in her own room peacefully. However, her heart remained heavy as the memory of Kai and her almost fighting earlier popped up. She couldn’t sleep that night worrying about what idea
Back then, Ellyse thought that the hardest thing she could ever do was divorcing him. But now that she’s inside his bathroom, bathing herself with her heart almost escaping out of her ribcage—afraid of what will happen next.
“Why are you asking me that?” He asked, confusion written all over his eyes. “Nothing, I just thought about it,” She chuckled nervously, silently scolding herself for even bringing that topic up.
“If we get suffocated in here Claire’s going to be orphaned!” Ellyse said dramatically as she throws her hands down. Kai looked at her with furrowed brows, not knowing if she’s being serious or just dramatic. “Relax, Ellyse. We won’t suffo
